Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 6cm
Snowfall at base this season 872cm

Posted on Thursday 22nd February 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here.

It's a crisp, icy start today. Temperatures dropped to -12°C overnight last night, meaning that even the water in the carparks is in a deep freeze! The sky is blue and the sun is just breaking over the top of the mountains. The air temperature is expected to rise rapidly once the sun is fully in the valley. The pistes are crunchy with the fresh snow from yesterday, and well-groomed. The remainder of the day will be bright and warm, with little wind to concern us. There is a chance some cloud will push in later in the evening, depositing some snow overnight tonight, however accumulations will be modest.

Looking forwards, we can expect a relatively warmer week, with much more Spring-like conditions. Little snow is forecast now through until Tuesday, however the wind is likely to pick up a little and blow some clouds through on Saturday. Daytime air temperatures are likely to remain above 0°C for the week. It looks as though Spring is starting to get fired up!
