As with other regions of Japan it does look like the latter part of this week is going to be bringing a lot of snow. Heavy snow is forecast and it will be greeted with open arms and big smiles. If you plan to be here late week and the coming weekend, be prepared for snow, more snow and full on winter conditions. It would be a great way to end the year and start 2019. The moderate winds that were around in the early hours have passed and it is pretty calm with no movement in the trees. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. Some annoying rain yesterday but let's quickly get onto the good news - fresh snow! Resorts around the area are reporting 10cm of fresh; my enthusiastic friend reporting 20cm (his numbers are always bigger than anyone elses!). I am measuring 12cm and hopefully we will get some more during the day today. Sun likely tomorrow but later in the week there's some really cold conditions along with heavy snow on the forecast. That is looking very good. More lifts and courses are trying to get open as we play with the snow we got. Most of the ski hills of Shiga Kogen are now at least part open. This morning the Higashitateyama gondola, but the Higashiyama slope is not open yet as there is not enough snow. The Gondola is effectively currently used to get to the (part) open Terakoya and Ichinose areas. So things remain all a bit dis-connected, but if we get that heavy snow later in the week we should see things opening up pretty quickly. The below information is manually checked for each report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Hello on this Christmas Even from Hakuba. Yesterday, unfortunately, we did get some rain as those temperatures stubbornly remain too mild. But I am happy to be able to report some fresh snowfall this morning and colder conditions. Not a huge amount but most welcome all the same. Here is what the ski resorts themselves are reporting this morning: Happo-one: 20cm (top Gondola station) Cortina: 15cm (base), 15cm (top) Hakuba 47: 5cm (base), 10cm (top) Iwatake: 10cm (base), 10cm (top) Light snow falling this morning and varied visibility depending on where you are. We can perhaps expect some clearer conditions later on and tomorrow too. It looks like there is a bit of lift disruption at Happo-one at the start of the day but hopefully that will sort itself out quickly. Keep your eyes and expectations set to 'Very High' for the consistent heavy snowfall that is promised (I'm taking it as a promise anyway!) on the forecast - starting from Thursday and running at least through the weekend. If that forecast comes off, we'll see a real transformation of conditions and some very happy smiles. Including my own. Can we end the year in true Hakuba style? I am guessing that is higher up as I am measuring 6cm... but hopefully it will be building up as the snow continues today. There's a bit of a cold wind today too. We can probably expect to see some sunshine tomorrow but heavy snow is coming our way late weekend. Thursday through the weekend is looking to be very promising indeed. Bring it on, I say. If we get that, Naeba should get to be 100% open pretty quickly. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Great news this morning as I come back in after shovelling myself out of the snow. A friend of mine is saying 40cm of fresh snowfall; I am measuring 32cm so that is what goes on the report. You will notice that the official snow depth numbers below are not anything like moving that much upwards, but that is expected. Normal price tickets from tomorrow and with this fresh snowfall I am really expecting more of the mountain to be available. From tomorrow and the next few days warmer temps are expected with even a chance of rain at base around Sunday. Fingers crossed we can avoid that and go straight into snow by the time we enter the new week. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Temperatures are colder this morning and you can sure feel that when you step outside. There were some moderate winds gusts earlier this morning. Conditions are calmer now but I would expect some wind around the top of the resort. It is partly cloudy but possible some sun may get through the breaks in the clouds. The upper mountain is shrouded in cloud. Overnight there has been a further 9cm of new snow. All eyes are on Kitanomine as to when the Gondola will operate...there has been no official word from the resort on this yet and I suspect it won't be today. Hopefully the front face of the Kitanomine quad chair will be opened as there certainly is more than enough snow coverage now. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. Some decent snowfall overnight! Yakebitaiyama are reporting 15-20cm; Kumanoyu are reporting 10cm; I am measuring 12cm for my reports. The snow clouds have moved on for the moment and there looks set to be clearer skies on the cards for this morning. Look for some more lifts and terrain opening up from this weekend - the Number 1 Gondola will start operating from Saturday at Yakebitaiyama and Ichinose Family is set to et their quad operating. There will surely be more - that's just the info that is out there for the moment. This weekend is going to see most of Japan experiencing a warmer spell and there's some rain expected. Up here, hopefully we can avoid that and if anything falls it will be snow. We'll have to see. A return to the colder conditions is forecast from later Sunday into Monday. Cloudy for the moment (with even a bit of sun trying to break through in places), but more importantly.. snow news! Lots of fresh snowfall to report this morning. And as always, I bring to you the amounts of fresh snowfall being reported by the resorts around Hakuba and here they are: Hakuba Happo-one: 40cm (top of Gondola) Hakuba Goryu: 10cm (base), 20cm (top) Hakuba 47: 15cm (base), 30cm (top) Hakuba Cortina: 15cm (base-top) Hakuba Iwatake: 5cm (Village Side), 20cm (Mountain Side) Top prize to Happo! There's a good 15cm on the ground for me to add to my measurements as well. So conditions out there should be pretty good this morning and I expect (and hope) that we might gradually be seeing more lifts and terrain get open too. Looks like Happo-one have opened up Kurobishi from this morning and the official site shows nothing yet moving at Tsugaike for some reason (wind?). Hakuba 47 are now also declaring themselves 'all courses open' Hakuba Iwatake have announced that they will open from tomorrow (Friday). They plan to have the North and East areas open with the Number 3 and 4 line lifts operating.
