The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The sun is out again today, but I don't think it's going to last very long! It's actually nice to be able to see things around us, and we've had Januarys where there is only maybe one or two days when the sun shines. Nice to be able to see the peaks. I love it when guests are suddenly shocked by the big, beautiful mountain just behind! And at how many visitors in winter never actually see Mt. Myoko. The stars were out around 7pm last night, and then a few random flakes started drifting in from clouds over the mountain. That carried on for at least a few hours, giving us a few centimeters of fresh this morning. Very pretty, sparkly flakes, too, so everything looks great this morning. Nice way to start a workweek (and a nice spot to call your workplace). The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday it was snowing during the day with 5cm on the ground by late afternoon and this morning the resort is reporting an additional 20cm of fresh snowfall on the top Yamabiko area with another 5cm down by base. My full measurement since yesterday morning is 10cm. Looks like there is some kind of event happening at the Yunomine A course meaning it is not available to the general public. Other than that and the Kandahar and Grand Prix, all courses are available. On normal weekdays the Mizunashi triple, Challenge pair and Utopia pair lifts are usually rested but that doesn't affect the amount of terrain available. Normal weekdays after a holiday period usually means that the courses will be relatively quiet today. Hope you can be here to enjoy it. Limited visibility for now and a bit dark but it might brighten up and the snow is actually forecast to ease off but not totally go away. The snow clouds seem to like it over Geto so maybe we'll get a few more days of snow before things conditions get much clearer. Still waiting on the other tree run areas to open... The latest Niseko Now report can be found here After the New Year period we are officially back to normal weekdays now though that doesn't seem to affect us much here in Niseko - we're busy all the way through. We had snow falling through most of the day yesterday and overnight, and I have just over 11cm of fresh snowfall to report this morning. I was kind of expecting more. But it's really nice dry-light quality, and as always there will surely be more of it on the mountain so conditions should be very good this morning. More snow expected over the coming few days and cloud is covering the mountain at the start of the day with light snow falling in places, but as you can see from the third image below looking over towards Mt Yotei there is some blue sky to be seen behind the clouds. Let's see how the day progresses... Today is the first day of the 'premium' service at Niseko Grand Hirafu where they open the Center Four quad lift from 8:00am until 8:20am. That service now runs daily until 31st January and costs 500 yen if you are interested. (Annupuri will have their early morning gondola thingy happening again on 12th, 13th, 14th January). More details below. --- Niseko Avalanche Report Mountain Base 6.00am: -7°, 15cm new snow in the last 12 hrs, light winds. Moiwa 800m: -11.4°, W10m/s, snow drift and cornice development, 20cm new snow in the last 12 hrs. Mikaeri Forest road now open. Annupuri 1120m: snow depth 175cm, W10m/s, 20cm new snow. . Niseko Village Mizuno no Sawa : NW9.8m/s, 11 cm new snow in last 12hrs, snowpack 129cm. Hirafu Peak 1250m: -14°, NW10m/s, 20cm new snow, snowdrift development. Coastal data: Benkei Cape: NNE9m/s. Kamui Cape: N7m/s, 1017hPa, wave 2.0m. Kutchan Weather Station: -10.8°, snow depth 128cm. A light snow wind continues and good snow has settled on the mountain. Below the tree line the avalanche risk is low. However Kozan no sawa sidewall around 1200m there is risk of a 50cm fracture from January 5 layer. Do not wait in the valley bottoms. Avalanche risk is dependant on elevation, be careful on higher elevation leeward and steep slopes. Higashi One 1200m, there are 5m deep cracks which are continuing to spread. In white out conditions they are hard to see. They may also trigger a full depth avalanche. From this years snowfall transition there are heavy snowdrifts forming in unexpected locations which are cracking easily. Do not expect Niseko snow to be all time good, all the time. The reason for past avalanche accidents has always been clear in the snowpack analysis. Snow changes all the time. Do not overestimate your abilities, make cautious decisions. The wind was pretty strong last night but we have been able to measure that much new snow on the ground. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It is currently snowing lightly and the flakes are nice big bulky ones, and will be a pleasure to ski on this morning. So far there is 2cm of fresh snow build up on the ground in the village, and I would expect that to equate to 5-10cm at the top of the resort. Again we have valley cloud sitting low on the resort meaning that it is a bit misty, however this usually lifts as the morning rolls on. The slopes are in very good condition with the constant small top ups of snow we are getting regularly. Tomorrow more light snow is forecast with perhaps a bit of sun thrown into the mix. Perhaps not enough to cover some harder icy conditions but hopefully we might get some more during the day today. Kumanoyu are reporting 5cm of fresh; Yakebitaiyama are reporting 15cm. I am measuring in the middle of that. I expect things to be quieter from today as people make their way back after the New Year. Heavy snow set to be over the region later on Tuesday. Let's hope it delivers. Snow did indeed start falling right after yesterday's report was up; it got colder, too (kinda scary that it was on the edge of rain at one point yesterday afternoon). Just over 40cm of new this morning, and light snow continues to fall. Getting foggy, too (it's staying cold, so it's not because of a rising thermometer). There was a lot of wind last night, with lots of drifting in some areas. Those drifts were super easy and dense, too (I know because of the big drifts outside my house that needed to be dealt with before I could even get to the monster snowthrower). The tummy is disappearing; those biceps are pumped. Snow is just going to keep on coming, it seems, with another heavy dump predicted for Tuesday. More weightlifting ahead.... The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . I must admit to getting a little worried yesterday with the milder and wet conditions, but this morning things are looking much better. It is colder and... there's about 20cm of fresh snow on the ground. Close to 30cm is being reported by the resort on upper areas since yesterday morning. Perhaps not top draw snow quality due to temps not dropping down that much, but certainly welcome and better than what we had yesterday. I think some investigations are required! Visibility is looking very limited up on the mountain early on. Snow is forecast for today, with a more exciting dump there on the forecasts for Tuesday night into Wednesday. Some people will have been back to work last Friday while some will be returning today. So for most people, tomorrow will be a normal Monday. Well, snow through most of the day yesterday and so I am perhaps a little surprised that there is only 11cm of fresh to report this morning. This morning snow is still falling lightly. It is colder again too which I am happy to report. The forecast seems to show the chance of some breaks in the cloud later on in the day. Whether that will happen or not... Today is the last day of the New Year for those lucky enough to have a longer holiday. From tomorrow, it's back to a normal Monday. Milder conditions through the day and some sleet/wet snow falling but later on that changed as we have a good 20cm of fresh snow on the ground. It is much colder again this morning and the snow quality looks pretty good to me... need to get out on the mountain to check it out. Oh the things I have to do to get this report done. Deary me. 6th January so lucky people who had a longer New Year holiday are surely at the end of that today. Some people will be making their way back today so I think it will be less busy as the day goes on. And from tomorrow of course it's a normal weekday. Tuesday night into Wednesday is looking tasty.
