The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Some strong winds blowing around yesterday morning and the gondola as well as quad lift had to be halted. The Number 1 Gondola got moving from around noon. Cloudy skies until just before lunch and then snow started falling... fairly heavy (as in consistency) snow and it continued until evening. It was relatively mild. This morning I have 12cm to report and I think that's your lot for a few days -- clearer skies are likely over the weekend. Hopefully some more of those tree runs will be open as planned... Monday is a national holiday in Japan. Next snowfall due around Tuesday. I will check again later and adjusting if necessary. Cloudy conditions with about 10cm on the ground and poor visibility. It is keeping cold but not as cold as yesterday (which started off very cold). Clearer skies are expected over the upcoming ling weekend. Monday is a holiday in Japan. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning everyone. It was a cloudy start to the day but clearing up now. Let's rewind a little. It was a mix of cloud and blue skies yesterday. Very cold but not much of a wind. This morning is milder and there's a bit of snow on the ground; the ski resorts are reporting 5-10cm of fresh as follows: Hakuba 47: 5cm Hakuba Goryu: 5cm Hakuba Cortina: 8cm (base); 10cm (top) Hakuba Happo-one: 5cm (top of Riesen quad) A bit windy this morning on the mountain it seems with a few lifts affected at the start of the day - top part of the gondola at Tsugaike and top lifts at Happo-one. Visibility is varied this morning depending on where you are - some mountain areas are still shrouded in cloud, but mostly there is blue sky over the village. Monday (14th) is a holiday in Japan (Coming of Age Day) and so it's one of the big peak weekends of the winter season. A lot of people will be here for the weekend and we can expect places to be busy. Perhaps a good time to check out less popular places? Wherever you are aiming to hit, I would recommend trying to get an early start. The weather looks set to be generally fine over the weekend. Calm and sunny/cloudy. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Just 2cm of fresh snowfall report this morning. It didn't feel windy when I was outside just before though it seems that some stronger winds are persisting at higher elevations this morning still. Let's hope that calms down during the day. The morning started off rather overcast but the clouds have been quickly disappearing leaving us with some lovely blue skies and some cloud remaining. Clearer skies are forecast over the weekend too and it should be calmer with less wind forecast. Monday is a national holiday in Japan - 'Coming of Age Day' - so we have a long weekend ahead of us. To celebrate, Annupuri will be getting their gondola moving from 7:20am (Saturday through Monday). So it looks like it is going to be a nice weekend, if not featuring fresh and fluffy snow. Snow should be returning perhaps around Tuesday when no doubt we'll be yearning for a new supply of fresh. --- Mt Yotei's cloud hat this morning has been... complicated. (Fashion, hey). --- Niseko Avalanche Report Niseko base 6am: -7℃, 5cm snowfall in 24hours. Moiwa 800m: -9.6℃, W8.1m/s, 15cm snowfall with snowdrift/cornice development. Mikaeri Junction: -9℃, W10cm, snowdrifts. Annupuri1150m: -13℃, violent winds. Hirafu peak: -13℃, westerly gusts and snowdrifts developments. Mizuno no sawa: 6cm snowfall in 24hours, snow depth 124cm. Kutchan weather station: -6.3℃, snow depth 124cm. Benkei cape: N13m/s, Kamui cape: N7m/s, 1015hPa, 3.2m waves. The isobars are starting to spread out, however strong wind persists above 800m, making snowdrifts and cornices develop. Newly grown cornices are very likely to fall. A hoar layer developed yesterday and a shallow avalanche is likely to occur in knoll terrains. The overall avalanche risk is lowering, however remains high in slopes around cornices above 1000m. A long crack has formed in the Nishi-One (west ridge) cornice and a large scale avalanche is to be expected if the cornice ends up falling. 30cm of fresh snow can be found in leeward tree runs and is a little easier to ski than yesterday’s conditions. Peak gates opening will be delayed. Listen to the ski patrol’s advice and be prepared before stepping out of the gates. Avalanches caused by falling cornices are still to be expected. Better not stimulate cornices and knolls and stay away of the bottom of the valleys. The Backbowl and Osawa cornice slopes should be left untouched today even if the peak gates open. Wearing a beacon and helmet is highly recommended. Well, there's some cloud around this morning - some patches of clearer sky earlier on, but generally now it is not as sunny-fine as we thought it might be. Perhaps it will get to be clearer... after the stormy conditions of yesterday it kind of feels like we deserve a bit of sun! It's cold too this morning. Snow conditions should be really good. Some cloud still around after the snow-fest of yesterday; the resort is not reporting any fresh but I have some to report since writing yesterday. There's more than that in wind-swept places. Basically, lots of snow - we are doing well at the moment. A very cold start to the day too. Great stuff. Looks like there's going to be clearer skies rather than snow for the most part into next week now. As long as it keeps cold, should be good. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Brrrr, it's a very cold start to the morning. No fresh snow to report overnight but there I have a bit to record since my report yesterday. I am not finding any reports of fresh snow from the ski resorts. Things cleared up somewhat by the middle of the day yesterday with some blue sky appearing though some cloud remained. Maybe some snow overnight tonight but beyond that we can probably expect some clearer weather over the upcoming long weekend (Monday is a national holiday). Next decent snow beyond that brewing up for around Tuesday, so let's keep an eye on that. Conditions on the slopes are going to be great this morning, and ungroomed areas will be lots of fun with all that fresh powder. It is overcast and visibility is okay, and it looks like it may improve during the morning. More snow is possible from afternoon. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Snow storm. 30-40cm of fresh snow both seen and reported by some resorts around the area. There's more than that in places. Blown around by moderate to strong winds. Whiteout. It actually started off with pretty wet kind of snow last night but has turned into better quality stuff this cold morning. It's a day to sit out for most people. And if you decided to go out in this lot, you may find limited options as a fair few lifts are still not moving as of 9:15am and may well not get open today. Extra caution needed in this kind of weather. I'm going to sit it out - try to fight it with the snow blower at times - and wait until the sun shines tomorrow. That is going to be superb. In the meantime, the more snow the better I say. Come on, bring it on. The below information is manually checked for each report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Oh yes. Some people may not like this kind of huge dumpage - I'll call them silly people - but I love it. It's one of those days when I am reporting numbers that are larger than the resort is posting - they are probably worried about scaring folk away. A bit of a blowing wind may also have something to do with that. Anyway, there's loads of snow around. I am measuring 48cm of fresh on the ground and that is the biggest number I have been able to report this season so far. The resort is reporting 50-54cm on the top areas. :) There may well be some delays in lift openings this morning, but I can't find any such info as I post this (8am). If you are keen to venture out in such conditions, be warned - visibility is looking very limited. The snow should be easing off later this afternoon. Tomorrow we are still expecting some sunshine, so it should be top notch conditions. If you are not able to be here, I guess you are perhaps just a little jealous!
