And this morning it's clear skies and spring-like sunshine. It definitely feels like the seasons are changing, though we all hope for more blasts of winter. We're probably going to have to wait until it becomes March before that happens. Or, maybe on Thursday. Would be a good way to end this month. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Interesting. I have 3cm of fresh snowfall to report to you this morning which was delivered overnight. Very good to see that. And I notice that some of the resorts are adding a bit of snow to their snow depths. Perhaps there might be closer to 10cm of fresh up top> I think we need to investigate - don't worry, I will take on said task. (The things I have to do!) It is a lovely morning with blue skies and sunshine. Temperature under zero now but will probably rise a bit into positive numbers at base during the day. As 8:30am approaches, it seems that all top lifts are not starting up right away due to gusty westerly winds up there. Details below as they are at 8:30am. Lots of people lining up waiting for those first lifts. Should be a good day. And more sunshine is expected tomorrow. --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Mountain Base 6.00am: -6°, no new snow. Moiwa 800m: -7.6°, WSW2.19m/s. Annupuri 1100m: -9.7°, WSW9.2m/s, snow depth 250cm. Hirafu 1000m: -8.7°, N4.4m/s, Hirafu Peak: -12°. Kutchan Weather Station: -12.3°, NW0.4m/s, snow depth 158cm. Please listen to the patrol's advice before going out the gates. Do not duck the ropes. The atmospheric pressure gradient is getting steeper to the north and the wind is increasing. Beware of a sudden change in weather. Cold temperatures have kept the snow conditions hard, be careful falling and going for a long slide. To avoid getting caught in a large scale avalanche avoid riding in the valley bottoms. Although cornices seem stable, if they collapse the will cause a lot of damage. Expect pieces as big and heavy as a bus. Do not wait around under cornices. A few cm to report from the start of the day yesterday with no more this morning and a bit more cloud early this morning but signs of some blue sky and perhaps it will clear up further. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Morning. Some early cloud around but there's also blue sky and the sun as we approach 8am. I guess it is going to turn into a fine day. We might get some light snow tomorrow, but if it happens I would not expect much from it. And then it is going to be a bit warmer early next week. None of us wants spring to arrive yet. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Not sure I was expecting this, but 15cm of fresh snow on the ground this morning. We got some light rain during the day from mid-morning but we can perhaps forgive that with some snow to see this morning. As you might expect with the milder temperatures, it isn't top notch mid winter powder... it's a bit heavy, but it's definitely better than rain. It is snowing now so it will be interesting to see how the day goes. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Some more snow this morning - 2cm of it in fact, and it looks pretty decent condition too for what it's worth. It is a beautiful morning. The sun is out and we have mostly clear blue skies with just a bit of cloud over our mountain and Mt Yotei is looking magnificent. Currently -2C here at base. The forecast shows a fair bit of sun to be expected over the coming days so we can enjoy that, just hoping that it doesn't warm up too much. --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Mountain Base 6.00am: -2°, 2cm new snow. Moiwa 800m: -3.8°, WSW0.8m/s, 2cm new snow, no snowdrift development. Annupuri 1120m: snow depth 250cm, 1100m: light winds, -6.2°. Hirafu 1000m: -5.8°, SSE2.0m/s. Village: Mizuno no Sawa: -4.88°, SSE0.4m/s, 2cm new snow in the last 24hrs. Kutchan Weather Station: -0.4°, SSW0.8m/s, snow depth 163cm. Cape Benkei: N6m/s, Cape Kamui: calm, pressure 1016hPa, wave 0.7m. We are currently in a low pressure zone but the sea and mountains are calm. There has been no new snow and only minor cornice and snowdrift development. From observation the general avalanche risk is low. All gates are expected to be open. Please listen to the patrols advice and be prepared before going out of bounds. Large cracks are starting to open up around the mountain. Be careful falling into them. Its a good idea to carry 7.7mm/20m of rope for rescues. The snow is hard and a bit savage, be careful. Today ski patrol are doing a more snow tests in Yunosawa. Do not follow them to ride in Yunosawa area. By Niseko Rules, Yunosawa and Harunotaki are strictly off limits areas, but these tests are being conducted with the aim of opening up Yunosawa for future riding. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Lots of cloud yesterday with some blue skies once again in the morning at times. It's a cloudy and calm morning with what looks like limited visibility on the slopes at the start of the day. And there's just a dusting of snow to report - I am able to add 1cm to this report. Any fresh snow is good to see of course, but 1cm is hardly going to make much of a difference on the slopes. It is going to be a mild day and it feels very much so early on. We might well get another dusting tonight but sun is forecast for tomorrow and the forecasts are still showing mostly fine weather (as in sun) rather than snow. Welcome back Ace Family Quad lift - opening as normal this morning. --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Mountain Base 6.00am: -0.5°, no new snow. Moiwa 800m: -1.9°, SW0.20m/s. Mikaeri Weather Station: minor snowdrift development. Annupuri 1120m: snow depth 250cm, 1100m: -3.9, NW1.30m/s. Hirafu Peak: light winds, -6°,1000m: -7.8°, N4.50m/s. Village: Mizuno no Sawa: -2.17°, NNW1.1m/s. Kutchan Weather Station: -0.7°, NW0.5m/s, snow depth 170cm. Cape Benkei: calm, Cape Kamui: ENE3m/s, pressure 1014hPa, wave 0.7m. There is very little atmospheric pressure gradient, the sea and mountains are calm and only a little snow has fallen. The mountains are all tracked out and conditions are hard. On steep slopes above 1000m the thin snow can easily avalanche by rider stimulation. If you fall on it, it will take you away like a magic carpet. Even a shallow avalanche will take you to the valley bottom and bury you tightly. By careful in areas like Kozan no Sawa. There is a deep crack about 200m up from Annupuri Gate 2 on Annupuri sub peak. It cant be seen from above, be careful. Cracks are starting to appear around the mountain. Today and tomorrow the Sapporo Olympic committee will be conducting a site survey at Yu no Sawa for the Olympic downhill event. This area is in a strictly off limits area and only accessible to committee members. Niseko Rules strictly prohibits entry to Yu no Sawa and Haru no Taki. Please understand and cooperate with the rules.
