The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning from Niseko. Lovely weather yesterday and it's blue skies from the start again today. Just a few small clouds in places but mostly blue sky and sunshine. Temperatures might be approaching 10C at base today and rising above that tomorrow as things get warmer. A dip in temps is likely around Monday when we might even get some snowfall on the mountain but more sun and warmth is currently forecast from Tuesday onwards. Lifts should be opening as planned this morning. I think I am going to get a few hours in this morning. --- We are now into the 'Final Season' period and that means cheaper lift tickets again. That means that you can get a Hirafu 5 hour ticket for 3,000 yen or a one day ticket for 3,400 yen (2,200 yen and 2,500 yen for junior high students and seniors; 1,600 yen and 2,000 yen for elementary school students). Note that the Hirafu Gondola will only be operating on Saturdays, Sundays and from 27th April through 6th May. Over at Annupuri, one day lift tickets are 3,400 yen for adults, 3000 yen for junior high students and 2,600 yen for elementary school students. And I believe that includes 1,000 yen for some lunch and an onsen hot spring entry discount ticket. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Zao. Well, we have been enjoying a real April revival here. Snow reported on 9th and now another 20+cm to report this morning. It's on the heavier side, but it's fresh snow and what's not to love about that. We may be seeing the last of the fresh snow for the season though with not much due on the forecast in the coming week with warmer temperatures on the horizon. Official snow depths (as reported by resort): - Summit area: 120cm - Paradise area: 170cm - Chuo area: 170cm - Utopia area: 195cm - Uwanodai area: 80cm - Oomori area: 60cm These are the planned lift closing dates as stated by the resort. It sure doesn't feel like we are getting close to the middle of April. This morning Kumanoyu are reporting 5cm of snow. Adding that to what we say yesterday and I am able to add 9cm to the report (since last report). It is still snowing with less wind it seems than earlier on. The roads have a cover of snow but it's not thick - still, I think lots of people will be glad if they kept their winter tyres on (and regretting it if they had swapped them over!) A few cm down at base and likely more than that higher up. In fact, the resort have just reported 15cm of fresh snow on the top Yamabiko area. So it should definitely be worth a look this morning. Nice. That new snow has pushed the official snow depth on the top runs back up to 300cm. There is lots of cloud forecast for the day today - this snow is due to ease off in the morning 0 and tomorrow... will this be the last snow of the season? There was a few cm of snow yesterday morning at base with more than that at higher elevations (included in this report) but this morning it warmer and feeling much more like spring again. The sun is out and blue skies. Similar weather is forecast for tomorrow. There is some ground showing through on some lower slopes that remain open now but still pretty decent cover considering. And top areas are planning on being open until 6th May. And now after that surprising blast of winter (and some additional cm since my report yesterday), we are going to be back to spring. Sunshine and warming up is on the cards for the next few days. The section of Route 292 connecting the Yokoteyama area of Shiga Kogen with Gunma Prefecture plans to re-open from 10am on Friday 19th April. They are busy working on cutting out the road from the snow now. Always fun to see those snow walls. I wonder how big they will be this season.
