  • Niseko Now: Thursday 19th December 2019

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 212cm Posted on Thursday 19th December 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here I am feeling rather better and more chirpy this morning. There isn't a huge amount of snowfall to report to you - I have measured 6cm outside on the ground - but it is feeling colder. I am guessing that there might be 10cm or so of fresh at higher elevations, so perhaps worth investigating even if not deep yet. The forecast is also looking much more Niseko-like, which is really great to see. Santa-san is going to be visiting Niseko on 24th-25th December. Niseko is his main place of call you see; he will make appearances in various locations. And it sounds like he is going to bring us what we want. He's a good bloke. I will leave him a mince pie, a piece of toast and some carrots for his reindeer friends. ----- At Niseko Grand Hirafu, the middle section of the mountain is currently mostly closed and you can either take the gondola or the Ace Number 2 Center Four lift back down. A good few days of decent snowfall should get things going properly without the need to be worried about what is open and what is not open. ----- In other news, you can buy a 'Snow Duck Builder' in the shops. Don't all rush now! Quite cute actually. ----- Niseko Grand Hirafu Official snow depth (reported by resort): - Peak: 130cm - Base: 45cm Ski lifts operating: - Ace Family quad - Ace Number 2 Center quad - Ace Number 3 pair - Hirafu Gondola - Holiday Number 1 pair - King Number 3 quad - Swinging Monkey Courses available: - Family - Detour for beginners - Shirakaba - Center - Kogen - Boyo - Holiday - Rinkan (lower area) - Jumbo ----- Niseko HANAZONO Resort Official snow depth (reported by resort): - Peak: 80cm - Base: 25cm Ski lifts operating: - Hanazono Number 1 quad - Hanazono Number 2 quad - Hanazono Number 3 quad ----- Niseko Annupuri Official snow depth (reported by resort): - Peak: 80cm - Base: 45cm Ski lifts operating: - Annupuri Gondola - Dream Number 1 quad - Jumbo Number 1 quad - Jumbo Number 2 pair - Jumbo Number 3 pair Courses available: - Utopia Course - Silver Course - Shirakaba Course - Paradise Course - Family Course - Junior Course ----- Niseko Village Official snow depth (reported by resort): - Peak: 80cm - Base: 45cm Ski lifts operating: - Niseko Gondola ON HOLD - Upper Village Gondola - Village Express - Community Chair - Banzai Chair ----- Night time operations are normally available in the Niseko Grand Hirafu, Niseko Village and Niseko Annupuri resort areas. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 206cm Posted on Sunday 15th December 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here It is most definitely colder this morning and you can see the difference in the fresh snowfall that we have down to base overnight. 6cm of it today; not massive amounts but no doubt a bit more than that on the mountain. Be sure to be appropriately wrapped up before venturing out today. It's cold. I highly recommend some toast too, always does the trick. Having said that, by the time I post this no doubt some of you gnarly folk will lining up at the lifts. I'm not jealous, honest. As for the current weather we expect the chance of light snowfall at times today but another milder bump tomorrow and Tuesday before a return to much colder conditions from mid week - and hopefully consistent snowfall. ----- I just looked back and noticed that last season I observed 333cm of snowfall here at base during the whole of the month of December 2018. We are half way through December 2019 now (!), and my current observed snowfall for the month stands at 121cm. We would normally expect more snowfall in the second half of the month than the first so it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. ----- Nighta at Niseko Grand Hirafu begins from tonight with the lower Family, Boyo and Kogen courses available until 8:30pm. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 200cm Posted on Saturday 14th December 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here To start the weekend off I have 7cm of fresh snowfall to report from here by base. Cloudy and grey and not much of a wind. It is not quite as cold this morning and the quality of the snow is perhaps reflected by that. While absolutely lovely of course - it is perhaps not as lovely as it is when it is the loveliest of all. Despite that rather silly sentence, I'm not feeling particularly wordy this morning so I'll leave it at that and see you tomorrow. Oh yes - please note the open courses at Hirafu below. Terrain from the top of the gondolas to base areas at Niseko Annupuri and Niseko Village are also open. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . We're still in pre-season, and it looks like it's going to stay that way for at least a while longer. I got the official word of delays in openings through one of the members of the Shin-Akakura Tourist Office, but to tell the truth, the former clear listings of all the websites on the city site are gone, and I can't find the new listing in the site by our new DMO (destination marketing organization)! And the mailing list from the city isn't operating yet, apparently. So we don't have an official listing to pull from. But my request is in.... The word is: at least for Akakura Kanko Ski Area is partial opening on the 21st, full opening on the 28th. I will update this as soon as I know for all the resorts. So let's say here: All resorts: the 21st at the earliest, and possible only in part. But I also have to add, as I often do, we OFTEN don't get snow until right around Christmas, so, ah, relax!
