- Shiga Kogen Now: Monday 6th January 2020
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 132cm Posted on Monday 6th January 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Hello from Shiga Kogen. The New Year holidays are over for most people now with lots probably returning to work today. The storm has cleared and some snow is still falling in places. I was just over at Okushiga where it was coming down quite nicely actually. Some fine snow conditions yesterday for those braving the conditions and I would expect another good day with 5-10cm of further snowfall. We are now nearly at that 'Shiga Kogen is fully open' status - though not quite yet. 'Almost fully open' is probably the best way to describe it! Notable areas that are not yet fully available are Terakoya, Higashidateyama and Happo Bunadaira. - Zao Now: Sunday 5th January 2020
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 75cm Posted on Sunday 5th January 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Zao. Sorry for not reporting to you yesterday. I spent most of the day in a hospital with a friend who, it turns out, has broken his leg. It was a long and tiring day... but could have been worse. He is a good skier too. A reminder that we all need to take care out there. (He said that, by the way!) So, I have 6cm of snowfall to report from base since my last report and I am happy to say that it is snowing quite heavily as I type this. Hopefully the cm will be adding up today. Heavier snow appears to be on the forecast for around Tuesday night into Wednesday; we might get some clearer skies tomorrow and Tuesday morning. There are still a bunch of lifts not moving for the season yet and those snow depth numbers could do with being much higher. Let's hope mid week delivers. - Nozawa Now: Sunday 5th January 2020
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 23cm Snowfall at base this season 92cm Posted on Sunday 5th January 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello and it's a good morning to you from here in Nozawa Onsen. And I am very happy to report another good snowfall across the mountain, most of which we got overnight. The resort is reporting 38cm on the top Yamabiko area since yesterday morning (just a few cm during the daytime), and 23-25cm on the lower Hikage and Nagasaka areas. Which is pretty much what I am also measuring and recording in the report. These are the kind of numbers that I take pleasure in being able to report! Visibility is limited on the mountain this morning as snow continues to fall, but wrap up well and get the goggles on to enjoy what should be excellent conditions. Oh yes, the popular Skyline downhill course is also now open. Most of the mountain is now available with just some exceptions - mostly the courses coming off the lower part of Skyline. I have now adjusted the information below to only show which courses are not yet available (rather than list up the courses that are open - there's more open than closed now). Plenty to enjoy. Without wanting to potentially spoil the party mood -- clearer skies are likely tomorrow and then some warmer conditions around Tuesday and Wednesday, with some rain on the forecast before more snow later on Wednesday into Thursday. I'm just going to enjoy what we have now as that story develops; hopefully for the better! Fresh snowfall recorded by resort since yesterday morning: - Yamabiko (1407m): 38cm - Uenotaira (1230m): 27cm - Hikage (660m): 25cm - Nagasaka (615m): 23cm - Karasawa (563m): -cm Official snow depth numbers (reported by resort): - Yamabiko (1407m): 140cm - Uenotaira (1230m): 115cm - Hikage (660m): 75cm - Nagasaka (615m): 55cm - Karasawa (563m): 30cm All lifts normally operating apart from these lifts: - Utopia pair - Kandahar pair - Nagasaka four - Kawazawa pair All courses open apart from the following courses: - Challenge 39 - Utopia B - Kurokura - Kandahara - Grand Prix - Mukobayashi - Karasawa - Hachiman - Karasawa link - Kamoshika - Tanuki - Usagi Nozawa Now 2019-2020 season Data as of Sunday 5th January 2020 Total snowfall at base 92cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 11 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 23cm (5th January) November 2019 snowfall 4cm reported on 2 days December 2019 snowfall 33cm reported on 5 days January 2020 snowfall 55cm reported on 4 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Nozawa Onsen. - Shiga Kogen Now: Sunday 5th January 2020
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 28cm Snowfall at base this season 125cm Posted on Sunday 5th January 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The good news on this Sunday morning is that we have signed off on a nice new delivery of fresh snow. Good proper, decent snowfall. The kind we like to see. Kumanoyu were reporting 20cm of fresh a few hours ago; Yakebitaiyama are reporting up to 30cm of fresh snow in places. I have even heard '50cm' being said by someone, though that particular person has been known to... exaggerate! Wind is certainly blowing the snow around and so there will be more in some areas than others. Bottom line - a good amount of new snowfall. :) The downside is that wind might affect some lifts this morning and visibility is certainly low and really poor in places. Stormy conditions. Once it clears, things should be set up for a fantastic day tomorrow. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Great news this morning. The biggest haul of fresh snow being reported by Cortina - 50cm; 25-30cm being reported on upper slopes across other resort mountains and I am measuring 16cm down by base. So conditions should be excellent up there this morning. And I think that's enough for today. I hope you can get to enjoy it!
