The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A bit of fresh snow to report to you this morning. It's heavy and wet, rather than light and dry, but it sure is better than the rain that many regions had to endure yesterday and overnight. We should be thankful. Interestingly, Kumanoyu are reporting 0cm of fresh.... Shiga Kogen is a wide area so there are always variations of course, though I'm surprised there was none. The Hasuike Junction near me here has a cover... The rain that came before the snow will have wiped out some cm, but we have that small fresh delivery. It is getting colder too which is good to be able to report after the warm day yesterday. Earlier clouds have been clearing and there is some sun breaking through in places. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Well, we have what can be best described as a dusting of snowfall to report this morning. Just about enough for me to record 1cm on this report. A bit windy overnight, so perhaps a little more in places (and none in others). There is a lot of cloud around still early morning but blue sky in places too and we are forecast sunshine so maybe the clouds will disperse. It will probably be Sunday before I can get to report more fresh snowfall to you, so we need to play with what we got for the moment. Personally, if it isn't going to snow I hope that the sun comes out to give us some fine views to enjoy (though please don't warm things up!) Good to see that gate 11 is expected to open this morning. But... as I prepare this report to go up at 8:30am it looks like naughty wind is going to be affecting some lifts at the start of the day - the top lifts at Hanazono, Hirafu and Village are all on hold and the Village and Annupuri gondolas are moving at a reduced speed. Perhaps they might get going depending on how conditions pan out. Take care out there. ----- Niseko Avalanche Report Mountain Base 6.00am: -4°, no new snow, strong winds, snowdrift development. Moiwa 800m: -6.9°, NE10.1m/s (73 deg)(max overnight 30m/s), snowdrift development. Hirafu 1000m: 1.1m/s 252 deg(ESE), -8.6°. Hanazono 720m: 6.3m/s 343 deg(NNW), -6.7°. Annupuri 1000m: snowdepth 135cm. Coastal data: Benkei Cape: ENE7m/s. Kamui Cape NE2m/s, 1010hPa, wave 2.1m. A low pressure system to the east has caused strong NE winds to hit the west side of the mountains at elevations above 600m. Although little snow has fallen cornice and snowdrift development has been rapid and are breaking with slight stimulation. The avalanche risk is high on knolls and cornice slopes above 800m due to the strong N, NE winds. A shallow hard surface avalanche is likely to occur from a 10cm hard slab that has formed on the Kozan no Sawa(Back Bowl) side wall around 1000m. This type of avalanche is dangerous due to the high speeds it travels. Mizuno no Sawa Gate 11 is expected to open today. Do not duck rope to enter Haru No Taki area. Please listen to the patrols advice before going into out of bounds areas. Be careful of creeks and bushes in the bottom of valleys. Snowdrift growth has been significant due to the strong winds and avalanche risk is extremely high in some areas this morning. Avalanches occur when conditions are met, regardless of the amount of snow. If people are involved there will be an accident. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The on off light snow flurries yesterday have added up to 4cm of fresh snow. It is high cloud with some fog over the top part of the resort. Later in the morning light snow is forecast again through the rest of the day. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . A cloudy start to this Monday morning though there are signs that the sun is trying to appear from behind the clouds. Not a whole lot since the report yesterday and the official snow depth numbers remain unchanged. Wednesday is going to see milder temps - not just here but through the country by the looks - and we have to expect the chance of rain though hopefully it will at least be snowing higher up on the mountain. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Hello from Shiga Kogen. The New Year holidays are over for most people now with lots probably returning to work today. The storm has cleared and some snow is still falling in places. I was just over at Okushiga where it was coming down quite nicely actually. Some fine snow conditions yesterday for those braving the conditions and I would expect another good day with 5-10cm of further snowfall. We are now nearly at that 'Shiga Kogen is fully open' status - though not quite yet. 'Almost fully open' is probably the best way to describe it! Notable areas that are not yet fully available are Terakoya, Higashidateyama and Happo Bunadaira. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . The New Year holidays are over now and it's back to work for many. That means that the mountain will be noticeably quieter today for the lucky people around now. I mentioned the chance of clearer skies for today. Well, we haven't got them yet with lots of cloud around still but there are clearer skies opening up to the north of Nozawa Onsen, so perhaps we will see more of that as the day progresses. Another 20cm of fresh snowfall is being reported by the resort from the top of the mountain, with 5-10cm across other areas of the resort. If you want to get from the Nagasaka base are to Hikage base area you can now get the 'Nasuki-go' snowmobile service. I hope that lovely bright green vegetable makes appearances! (I suppose I should really write 'Na-su-ki' (the way it is written in Japanese katakana) as 'Naski', as it is written on the official English website. I'm just not used to it. I promise to try. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Geto Kogen. 9cm of snowfall to report, 3cm of that coming overnight. Light snow is falling this morning with a bit of a blustery wind at times. The forecast is showing the chance of some sunshine today, more so tomorrow. And a return to some decent snowfall late Tuesday into Wednesday though milder conditions are due on Wednesday in the daytime bringing with it a threat of rain. Let's hope that doesn't happen. Most people are now back to work after the New Year so things should be quieter on the slopes on weekdays.
