  • Yuzawa Now: Monday 31st January 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 12cm Snowfall at base this season 802cm Posted on Monday 31st January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was snowing for large parts of yesterday, though it wasn't the kind of snowfall that gave us a large amount of new snow. Just over 10cm measured early this morning. Ski areas around town will probably have about that much, and Kagura higher up is reporting 30cm this morning. It is still snowing lightly this morning. Currently -3C and it should be staying under (or about) freezing point during the day today. There's quite a lot of snow lined up on the forecast for this week as well, even if we might see some clearer skies in the morning tomorrow. Looks like we should be starting February in pretty good shape. After a fairly busy weekend things should be quieter once again this morning. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 320cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm Official snow depth: 280cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 230cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 270cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 30cm Official snow depth: Top: 330cm Base: 250cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 275cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10-20cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 310cm (top) 195cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 220cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 260cm (top) 220cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 265cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 280cm (top) 200cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 255cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 210cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Monday 31st January 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 802cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 40 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 76cm (28th December) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Tuesday 1st February 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 24cm Snowfall at base this season 826cm Posted on Tuesday 1st February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. There was more snow during the day yesterday, but, again, it didn't amount to much in terms of new cm. I'm happy to report that there has been a fair bit overnight though. Ishiuchi Maruyama and Maiko are both reporting 20cm since last night and Hakkaisan is reporting 15cm. We have just measured 24cm (since yesterday) for this mornings town base report. It feels like the weather is changing before our eyes this morning. There has been lots of cloud around early morning but there are breaks in the cloud, with increasing blue sky and sun too. More snow is due before the end of the day though, and the forecast is also looking good for regular snow right through into next week. In particular some moderate to heavy snowfall at the weekend. ----- Yesterday the Kagura Gondola had to stop due to wind and only the parts of that ski area was open. This morning it looks like the Kagura Gondola is down for the whole day - machine maintenance being the official reason. That means that to get over to Kagura you're going to have to do so via Tashiro. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 330cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 20cm since last night Official snow depth: 300cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 250cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 270cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): ?cm Official snow depth: Top: 330cm Base: 250cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 295cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 20cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 210cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 220cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 260cm (top) 220cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 275cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 280cm (top) 200cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 270cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 220cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Tuesday 1st February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 826cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 41 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 76cm (28th December) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 24cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 23cm Snowfall at base this season 849cm Posted on Wednesday 2nd February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The snow started up again yesterday evening and this morning there's another 23cm of fresh snow. Ski areas that report also mentioning similar numbers. It's still snowing and we are expecting it to continue, though perhaps lighter. Snow remains on the forecast over the coming days though so we are going to get regular refreshes and any sign of the sun will probably be short-lived. Currently -1C in town. Wind is stopping Kagura from fully opening this morning but both the Mitsumata and Tashiro Ropeways are open. Early on it's the main 'Kagura Area' that is not opening. Other ski areas look like they are all opening, though some lifts may be delayed. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 350cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 20cm since last night Official snow depth: 300cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 260cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 290cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 30cm Official snow depth: Top: 330cm Base: 250cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 290cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 20cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 220cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 220cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 260cm (top) 220cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 280cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 310cm (top) 230cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 270cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 220cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Wednesday 2nd February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 849cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 42 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 76cm (28th December) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 47cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Thursday 3rd February 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 854cm Posted on Thursday 3rd February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It's snowing this morning and there has been 5cm since the last report. Kagura is this morning reporting 10cm (and able to be open as normal this morning). We have had some regular snow over the last week or so, though the roads have been able to remain largely clear and there aren't any of those large icicles hanging from the houses that there were a month ago, so it kind of feels a bit different. That's just an observation - decent regular snowfall is, of course, great, and long may it continue. It does look like the snowfall over the weekend will be heavier and temperatures will be lower, and maybe windier too.... that might get some new big icicles going! The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Moderate snow this morning and another 19cm of snow to report from town level since the last report. Interesting to see Yuzawa Kogen report 30cm of new snowfall; others reporting 10cm. We are still due lots of snow over the weekend, both on Saturday and Sunday, and it may be a bit windy too so if you plan on being here be prepared. Beyond that perhaps we'll get a period of clearer skies in the middle of next week. I just noticed that the total snowfall for the season so far (observed by us at town level) is now standing at 873cm. Last season we got a total of 1109cm. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 360cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm since last night Official snow depth: 300cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 265cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 290cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm Official snow depth: Top: 330cm Base: 250cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 290cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 220cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 220cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 270cm (top) 230cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 295cm Yuzawa Kogen Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 30cm Official snow depth: 310cm (top) 230cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 275cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 250cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Friday 4th February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 873cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 44 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 76cm (28th December) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 71cm reported on 4 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 27cm Snowfall at base this season 900cm Posted on Saturday 5th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. This morning feels much colder and mid-winter like than the last run of days. And we have just measured 28cm of snowfall with much more due throughout the day today and tomorrow. It's really coming down at the moment so piling up quickly. It looks like there has just been a snow slide over at Kagura which is causing the connection between Kagura and Tashiro to be closed. The Area 51s Park at Mitsumata is also closed. Over at Yuzawa Kogen, the downhill course is closed due to avalanche risk. From what we can tell other ski areas are open as planned this morning. There's some risky conditions today with more of the same due tomorrow. Take care out there. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 350cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 20cm since last night Official snow depth: 300cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 275cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 300cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 20cm Official snow depth: Top: 330cm Base: 250cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 295cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 20-40cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 330cm (top) 225cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 340cm (top) 250cm (base) Naeba Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 30cm (since yesterday) Official snow depth: 270cm (top) 230cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 320cm Yuzawa Kogen Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 20cm Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 240cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 280cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 240cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Saturday 5th February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 900cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 45 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 76cm (28th December) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 98cm reported on 5 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Sunday 6th February 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 101cm (!) Snowfall at base this season 1001cm Posted on Sunday 6th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. And... wow. It was really snowing hard when the report was made yesterday morning, and by 6pm 41cm of snow on the main measuring point. That snow was completed cleared and as of 9am this morning there is another 60cm on there (that's what you can see on the photo below). That gives us a full 101cm since yesterday morning. Amazing. In the last day or so the snow walls by the side of roads suddenly seem to have gone from looking kind of cool and friendly to almost looking a bit sinister! (Just kidding - they look great). Remember, some of the snowfall numbers reported by ski areas below are 'since last night' rather than 24 hours, while others a more vague 'since yesterday'. We think it would be more useful to be really clear about that, but it is the way it is. So yes, absolutely tons of snow and it is still snowing now so we are probably going to have another fairly big number tomorrow. After that we can expect a few days of calmer and perhaps brighter weather. As exciting as crazy snowfall is, super care will be required in these conditions. Only the Mitsumata area of Kagura is open this morning. At one point earlier on the Route 17 road around Mitsumata was closed due to an avalanche affecting the road but that seems to be clearer now. Other ski areas look like they are opening this morning but there will be delays with some lifts are ski areas deal with the snow. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 380cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 50cm since last night Official snow depth: 370cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 330cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 350cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 60cm Official snow depth: Top: 350cm Base: 270cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 330cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): more than 50cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 400cm (top) 280cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 340cm (top) 250cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 290cm (top) 240cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 370cm Yuzawa Kogen Reported snowfall (by the ski area): ?cm Official snow depth: 350cm (top) 260cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 295cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 270cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Sunday 6th February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1001cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 46 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 101cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 199cm reported on 6 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 54cm Snowfall at base this season 1055cm Posted on Monday 7th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. That snowfall number yesterday was really huge, and it hasn't really stopped snowing since then (well, as far as we know). By 6pm there was an additional 28cm of snowfall and this morning there's another 26cm on top of that. So another 54cm since yesterday. That's over 1.5m of snowfall in two reports and it has taken the total snowfall for the season up to 1055cm. It's still snowing this morning but due to start easing off. By this evening it should have stopped. And then, if the local forecasts are correct, we are going to have a few days of calm and at times clearer skies. Due to the massive snowfall of the last few days, the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is going to be closed today (too much snow!) - other areas of GALA are open - and there are also a few restrictions at both the Kagura and Tashiro areas of Kagura. It appears that other ski areas are all open, but some lifts might need digging out and be delayed. Quite a few of the ski areas in the region now have official snow depths of 4 metres and over. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. There was some light snow falling yesterday, even during the evening, but some brighter spells as well. In the end just a few cm down at town level and this morning Kagura is reporting 10cm. It's a cloudy start to the day but quite bright in some directions and there is increasingly some blue sky in places. We might get some sun today, even if the forecasts say it should be mostly cloudy, with a higher chance of clearer weather from the start of the day tomorrow. The break in the heavy snowfall yesterday has allowed locals to get to grips with it all. There has been a lot of shovelling and moving snow going on and probably lots of tired arms and legs this morning! The first photo today is a 3+m 'snow wall' close to SJ HQ just outside Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 1059cm Posted on Wednesday 9th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Some light snow overnight with 1-2cm around town areas but the sun is trying to break through the remaining clouds this morning. Forecasts say we should be enjoying the sunshine today and it feels like it will end up that way. All calm now, currently -1C and a high of around +2C in town today. Tomorrow will probably be a bit colder and we might get some more snow falling. The connecting course between Kagura and Tashiro as well as the top Number 5 lift are currently closed due to avalanche risk. Otherwise, ski areas are generally opening as planned this morning. ---- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 440cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 1cm since last night Official snow depth: 370cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 310cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 350cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 3cm since yesterday Official snow depth: Top: 380cm Base: 300cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 370cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 5cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 380m (top) 280cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 380cm (top) 350cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 290cm (top) 240cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 365cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 380cm (top) 280cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 325cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 290cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Wednesday 9th February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1059cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 49 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 101cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 257cm reported on 9 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Friday 11th February 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 1065cm Posted on Friday 11th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We did get some snowfall yesterday but this morning there's 6cm of fresh to report. Kagura and Maiko are reporting up to 10cm, Ishiuchi reporting 5cm. Already we have seen some changeable weather this morning. As you can see from the photo below (Maiko) there was quite a bit of blue sky around earlier on, but it's all a bit more cloudy as we approach 8am. There might even be some light snow falling, but nothing significant. Today is a national holiday and so it's a long weekend for many. That normally means that this weekend is one of the busiest of the season. Of course, these are not 'normal' times, but still we can expect places to be relatively busy over the next few days. The forecast for tomorrow is a mix of cloud and sun. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 410cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 5cm since last night Official snow depth: 350cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 305cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 340cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm since yesterday Official snow depth: Top: 380cm Base: 300cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 350cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 5-10cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 370cm (top) 260cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 380cm (top) 320cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 290cm (top) 240cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 345cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 380cm (top) 280cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 325cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 280cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Friday 11th February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1065cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 50 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 101cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 263cm reported on 10 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Monday 14th February 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 1068cm Posted on Monday 14th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. After a day of cloudy/foggy kind of conditions yesterday in some places, this Monday morning is starting overcast/cloudy - everything is looking white/silver/grey. And there was actually a few cm of snowfall overnight in town (Kagura are reporting up to 10cm) but the roads are clear. Local forecasts say that clearer skies are due today and even lots of sunshine... back to cloud and maybe some more light snow tomorrow. It is currently -1C in town and just a light north westerly wind. A high of around +2C is forecast for later in the day. Quite a lot of people came to the area for the long weekend and it was good to see places fairly busy. Today we're back to a normal Monday and so things will be much quieter. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 390cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): ?cm since last night Official snow depth: 350cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 285cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 320cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 5-10cm since yesterday Official snow depth: Top: 380cm Base: 300cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 340cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 5cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 350cm (top) 230cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 370cm (top) 260cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 290cm (top) 240cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 325cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 360cm (top) 240cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 320cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 260cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Monday 14th February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1068cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 51 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 101cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 266cm reported on 11 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa.
