The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It's a mix of cloud and some sun in places this morning. There was some rain going on last night again but it tried to turn into snow and certainly higher up left us with some new cm. This morning Kagura is reporting 5cm and Ishiuchi Maruyama are reporting 5cm. Somewhat surprisingly Maiko are reporting 15cm. There's just what is a bit more than a dusting around town areas. Four more ski areas are planning on opening from tomorrow - NASPA Ski Garden, Yuzawa Park, Nakazato Snow Wood and Muica Snow Resort, with the rest of them opening on Saturday. As far as we can tell, they will be opening as planned - though to start off with they'll be in 'part open' status. The heavy snowfall across the upcoming weekend should really help places open up more, all being well. We have snow, but there's still not that much snow around lower levels in particular. A couple of days of consistent heavy snow can certainly quickly sort that out. ----- Kagura proclaim on their website that all areas are skiable, but at the same time that 23 of their 32 courses are open. It can certainly sound confusing. Perhaps the best description of the situation is that all of the areas are open - Mitsumata, Tashiro and Kagura. There are some courses that are not available, though. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Best morning so far, I would say. Lots of snow. Here's what ski areas are reporting: Yuzawa Kogen: about 50cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: about 50cm Maiko Snow Resort: about 50cm And I concur - just been out and measured 48cm and cleared the spot to prepare for the incoming snow that I will be able to report tomorrow. Kagura are being shy about new snowfall this morning. I suspect there is a lot. (Don't want to brag, after all. Or perhaps, scare some people off). But unfortunately the Tashiro Area is going to be closed today due to the weather conditions, and part of Kagura operations might be restricted too. Ski areas will be happy to be scrambling to cope and get runs open today, so expect more to be opening up - if not today, then surely tomorrow. The heavy snow is forecast to continue today and tomorrow so we can expect the numbers to start piling up. Just how we like it. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The snow has continued since yesterday. Easing off at times, but pretty much consistently coming down and destined to continue all the way through into late tomorrow. 30cm was measured on our measuring spot at 6pm last night. That was cleared off and there is another 19cm there this morning... so that's 49cm for the report today. We were actually expecting more snow overnight, but certainly can't complain - especially as more snow is coming over the next few days. Ishiuchi Maruyama is reporting another 50cm, with Maiko Snow Resort, Yuzawa Kogen, and Kagura all seemingly reporting 30cm. Kagura and Naeba are both affected by wind again this morning it looks like there is some problem with the Tashiro Ropeway. Get over there if you have any spare spanners. Meanwhile the rest of us will just enjoy lots of shovelling. With all this new snow ski areas are increasingly approaching that 'fully open' status. I suspect after tomorrow, we should pretty much be there. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. In fact, it's a great morning when it comes to snow. At 6pm yesterday at our spot there was 30cm of new snowfall there since the morning report. The spot was cleared again and this morning there is another 46cm. So that's 76cm since yesterday morning. Here's the snow that ski areas themselves are reporting this morning: Kagura: 50cm Maiko Snow Resort: 30-50cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 60cm It's a bit windy out there and some lifts at some ski areas might be affected this morning. Unfortunately, Kagura is completely closed. The top area of Yuzawa Kogen is also closed with the Ropeway on standby. GALA Yuzawa appears to be opening as normal as are other ski areas. Tomorrow should see things be much calmer and perhaps even clearer. Conditions will be excellent. The sun might join in the fun. Yes, after snow clouds doing their thing for a few days, the skies are clearer this morning and it's a beautiful start to the day. 22cm of new snowfall was measured (for our report) by yesterday evening... just a dusting since then. Kagura are reporting 10cm. Maiko reporting 2cm. Curiously, Yuzawa Nakazato are reporting 20cm (which is the same as us!). Different ski areas, different timings, different thinking... Whatever, it's a beautiful morning and conditions should be great. All ski areas close to or fully open. More snow is on the way for tomorrow and Friday in particular. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The sun was out yesterday and it actually warmed things up a bit. Felt rather mild and indeed this morning many of the official snow depth numbers reported by the ski areas have decreased. This morning ski areas are reporting a few cm of new snowfall overnight: Ishiuchi Maruyama: 5cm Maiko Snow Resort: 5cm Yuzawa Kogen: 5cm Kagura: 3cm There was just a thin layer to move from the car this morning. It still feels mild and we there is a chance we get some rain during the day today as it warms up to around +3C in town. But even if we do get that, it shouldn't last long and it should be snowing by tonight with a few days of snowfall expected tomorrow and the day after. All being well, we might be some more big snow numbers to report in the next few reports. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Another 46cm of snow to report to you in this last report of the year. The total observed snowfall for the season so far is 321cm. That is not as much as the mad December we got last year, but still an impressive number and the ski areas will be happy. Let's see if we can keep up the snowfall regularly through the season and have a really consistent one. And a late spring! Here is how much fresh snowfall ski areas are reporting this morning: Kagura: 60cm Yuzawa Kogen: 50cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 40cm Maiko Snow Resort: 40cm Excellent! It is still snowing with a lot more forecast to fall today and tomorrow. So expect another big number tomorrow. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Happy New Year. Good morning from Yuzawa. What a few days it has been! Yesterday another 35+cm of snow fell by evening time and this morning there's another 15cm on top of that (which is actually not as much as the forecasts told us to expect). The only new snowfall number we can find this morning from a ski area is Maiko Snow Resort, reporting 40cm of fresh. This morning a number of ski areas are affected by windy conditions. All of Kagura is completely closed and parts of Naeba are also closed. Other lifts affecting at various ski areas, including at Yuzawa Kogen, Iwappara, Ishiuchi and Maiko. Lower lifts are the more likely to be moving this morning for people happy to brave the current conditions. In new 'opening' news, the downhill course at GALA Yuzawa, Falcon, is now open. This snow storm is due to ease as the day progresses, and tomorrow should be calmer and much brighter. The sun might make a special appearance. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It is a beautiful morning. The sun is out and there is just a bit cloud around. 10cm of snow again by last night and just a dusting overnight. There might be some more snow overnight tonight though and then a day of snow due for Tuesday. ----- The BC Gate and top Number 5 pair lift at Kagura are not open yet, that opening has been delayed as they deal with all the snow. The connecting course between Kagura and Tashiro and downhill course are also closed today. The Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is not open yet and we'll let you know when that opens up. The main Central and Northern areas are both open. ----- With the heavy snow over the last week or so, we are now in the very happy position for ski areas to be pretty much fully open... or as open as they plan to be on each day, weather conditions permitting. There will be some exceptions to that and we will give mention to any significant news we find in each report. We'll do that up here in the main text. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Beautiful morning (in particular) yesterday, with clouds gradually starting to gather as the day went on. There were some spots of rain in places in the evening in some areas but thankfully we can quickly forget that as it quickly changed into snow and this morning Kagura are reporting 40cm of fresh. Other ski areas are reporting 10cm (Ishiuchi), 20cm (Yuzawa Kogen) and 30cm (Maiko) - our measurement for this report is 14cm of new snowfall since yesterday. For the day today we are expecting light snow at times - it's still snowing now - but just cloudy at others. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Sure I heard some rain very early morning, but looking out the window now it is actually snowing. And while we were expecting up to 20cm of snow, just a little on the ground. (Kagura is actually reporting 20cm). Just to the north of Yuzawa out in the Minamiuonuma valley it is actually still raining, though seems to be changing into sleet and hopefully should be snow very soon. So it's a curious early morning, but we should be getting snow through the day today and into tomorrow and temps are set to drop. It is also forecast to be windy and due to that GALA Yuzawa is going to be closed for the day. The Tashiro Area of Kagura is also closed, as is the main Kagura quad but you can get up there via Mitsumata. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. There was some heavy snow falling at times during the day yesterday and 22cm of snowfall measured by 6pm. That was cleared and there's another 26cm on the same spot this morning, giving us a total for the report of 48cm. And counting as it's still snowing. Here's what ski areas are reporting: Maiko Snow Resort: 30-50cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 20cm (but that is just from overnight) Can't find any other specific numbers this morning. It's safe to say Kagura got a whole lot. Wind is still an issue this morning and Tashiro is again closed. The Prince Number 2 gondola and top area of Naeba are closed too, as is the Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway. As the day moves along things should be calmer and the snow will ease off. And then tomorrow... sun! Let's hope it stays cold as we want to keep these lovely snow conditions that we have.
