Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 819cm Posted on Thursday 20th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The blue skies lasted until the late afternoon yesterday, when clouds settled in around the peaks and it looked like snow could be falling. Not much overnight, but the snow has really turned on since a little before 8 this morning. Lots of snow clearing ahead — the morning forecast says 70cm for the mountainous regions of Nagano and Niigata, and that's us (with Myoko in this little piece of land surrounded by Nagano in three directions). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 343cm Posted on Thursday 20th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . After that beautiful start yesterday it did gradually cloud over though stayed fairly bright during the afternoon. Snow had started up once again and there's some on the ground with more due during today and maybe into tomorrow. Some good numbers please! Ski areas are generally reporting up to about 5cm early this morning, all found numbers in the list below (as always). Let's see what we have by this time tomorrow. Because of the snow visibility is a bit limited and probably will be for the day, but all ski areas are opening as planned at the start. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 339cm Posted on Wednesday 19th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It is a bright and sunny morning here with a lot of blue sky and some white cloud around the mountains. Away from the mountains it's clear blue sky. Beauty of a morning and a very cold start to the day too. Just a little snowfall being reported by the ski areas (mostly up to 5cm, though Cortina are reporting up to 20cm on their upper areas). We should be getting more tomorrow, don't worry. It's quiet out there. The people lucky to be here should have a good day. The top Grat quad at Happo-one is still closed, by the way. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. The sun is out this morning. 5-10cm of snowfall across the mountain overnight added on to what we got during the daytime yesterday (up to 25cm on the top areas of the mountain) means there's more fresh snow out there to play in. There's more snow due tomorrow and Friday, and then currently some sun forecast again for Saturday. A few lifts are being rested at the moment and it's unclear exactly why. But I'll keep a note of them within the text of my report each morning. They don't seem to be affecting the runs that are open; the mountain is pretty much fully open. Lifts rested today: Hikage gondola, Skyline connecting, Challenge pair, Utopia pair, Nagasaka quad, Karasawa pair. Information checked each morning at time of report. An interesting bunch of numbers for you this morning. 5-6cm at base, but I see the ski area is reporting 52cm of snow on upper areas. Don't usually get such a big difference. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 28cm Snowfall at base this season 814cm Posted on Wednesday 19th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . A lot of snow fell, but it's a beautiful sunny morning in Myoko today. Cold, crisp, clean, blue skies, white mountain.... Makes all the plowing worthwhile. We're probably only going to have a half day without snow, though, as the forecast is for snowfall in the afternoon, and another heavy fall tomorrow. Nice to have a little sun to help get the snow to fall off the roofs, so we can clean up and get ready for more. The skiing should be outstanding. Another day where it would be tough to climb offpiste, and the danger of sluffing is very real, so if you do decide to fight the drifts, be really careful of what's below you as you descend. A little valley with lots of flowing snow could be pretty dangerous. One thing: all lifts are running at Akakan today. Three lifts were closed yesterday, but the closure until the 20th is Champion B course, which is hosting a race and will closed today and tomorrow (sorry for the confusion!). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 17cm Snowfall at base this season 335cm Posted on Tuesday 18th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . The snow continues. It's cold and quite windy too. It's one of those mornings when I have more snow to report from base than ski areas (base areas, of course). The numbers from the ski areas are, as always, in the list below. Basically, up to 30cm being reported this morning on the mountains. The top Grat quad lift at Happo-one is closed for the day, the reason being basically them 'dealing with snow'. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 36cm Snowfall at base this season 548cm Posted on Tuesday 18th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Loads of snow overnight and it is still coming down at quite the rate as I make this report. 36cm measured as of just before 8am and counting. The ski area is reporting 30cm (Hikage) to 50cm (Yamabiko) of snowfall. Visibility is limited at best this morning and very poor in places. All this fresh snow is very exciting but some serious care is required on a day like this. Best to stick to the main runs which will be plenty fun and fluffy. Tomorrow should see a break in the snowfall with more due late week. We're doing well for snow. (As one would normally expect in Nozawa, of course!) - Madarao Now: Tuesday 18th January 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Madarao region of Nagano New snowfall at base 45cm Snowfall at base this season 505cm Weather overview Snow Wind NW Temperature - Visibility Limited Posted on Tuesday 18th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . It's snowing this morning across the region and Madarao are reporting a good 30cm of new snowfall. I'm measuring more than that. There's a moderate north westerly and that is perhaps blowing the snow around and mixing it up. Visibility looks rather limited at the moment, and poor in places (though as I look out the window just now there seems to be the hint of brightness - that might not last). Tomorrow morning should be very good. Sun is forecast. But it's not due to last long because there's more snow on the way on Thursday and Friday. Nice.
