- Geto Kogen Now: Saturday 30th April 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Geto Kogen region of Iwate New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 1842cm Posted on Saturday 30th April 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Geto Kogen. Hey it's the last day of April, but who wants some fresh snow?! Amazingly, the ski area this morning are reporting 16cm of fresh snow at base and just over 21cm higher up on the mountain. What about that then? Not only will that feel good under the plank(s), but it has given everywhere a bit of a fresh white look. There's not that many clouds left around now and blue sky, so it is probably the best we could hope for on 30th April. I almost don't want to mention it, but we need to be ready for a good chance of some rain coming our way tomorrow. More sunshine due beyond that. Courses & lifts: The Number 1 gondola and Number 1 pair lifts plan to be operating for this last section of the season. Most normal rums remain at least part open. Daily checks are being made on opening to decide on what courses are open each day. Tree run courses now closed for the season. Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Upper: 250cm Lower: 115cm Total accumulated snowfall (as reported by the ski area): 2682cm Spring season Geto Kogen plans to be open until 8th May. - Niseko Now: Friday 29th April 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1137cm Posted on Friday 29th April 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning from Niseko. It's Friday but it's a national holiday and the first day of Golden Week. This is how the national holidays line up over the coming days: 29th April is Showa Day 3rd May is Constitution Memorial Day 4th May is Greenery Day 5th May is Children's Day This morning it is kind of fine, but not in that lovely blue sky kind of fine. Lighter blue with thin cloud is perhaps the best explanation? Hirafu and Annupuri should be opening as planned. Sunshine is due tomorrow but there's some more rain due at times the few days after. Not perfect Golden Week weather, for sure. Fingers crossed it ends up being better than the forecast. ----- While enjoying my toast this morning at 7:30am I caught an NHK piece about Niseko. It was less than 30 minutes long, but ended up being a rather thoughtful look at Niseko. About the beauty of nature and our snow and why Niseko has become so popular. About how the area has changed over recent years, especially with the 'inbound' thing starting up. About how things are really quiet at the moment right now due to you-know-what, but investment and development still continues. About how local Japanese owners of accommodations and businesses have gradually disappeared (to be replaced by big-money companies). About how some people question what everything means, both in personal terms and the bigger picture. Is it all just about money? I didn't think it wasn't downbeat. More... thoughtful. I found myself nodding and agreeing with various points being made. I definitely know the kind of lifestyle I choose. ----- Planned ski area operations: Friday 29th April 2022 The below snow depth and snowfall data is manually checked each morning from official sources. Not the kind of day that I feel inclined to get the gear on. Right now it is just cloudy. There's lots of low cloud hanging around making visibility rather limited even in some base areas. It is not raining just now, but still damp and there are puddles of water on the road outside my place and we might get some more light rain today. OK so very hopefully we might get some sunshine tomorrow by late morning, and then from early morning Sunday too when it will get a bit warmer once again. Today a high of around 12C is expected. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 617cm Posted on Friday 8th April 2022 This is an archived report. - Niseko Now: Monday 4th April 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1135cm Posted on Monday 4th April 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Yesterday was of course the last day of the season for Niseko HANAZONO (capitals, please), Niseko Village and Niseko Moiwa. Otsukaresama deshita! That leaves us with just Niseko Hirafu and Niseko Annupuri open for the remaining month or so of the season. This morning there are six ski lifts still moving - three at each ski area. I have noted those below and also added a list of the courses (at Hirafu) that are now closed. I will keep an eye on such information every morning and update the lists below as necessary. As a note for today, I believe the Shirakaba course at Hirafu is closed today and tomorrow as they prepare 'spring items'. And the Ace Number 2 Center Four lift is closed just for today. It's a beautiful spring morning. Blue skies, sunshine, not much wind. Tomorrow will probably be quite similar too. The HANAZONO webcam has gone all retro black and white again, perhaps because it's now closed. Anyway, I've had my morning toast and done my report - I'm off outside! ----- Planned ski area operations: Monday 4th April 2022 The below snow depth and snowfall data is manually checked each morning from official sources.
