- Myoko Now: Saturday 25th February 2023
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 960cm Posted on Saturday 25th February 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . I'm glad I got a late start today - more on that in a moment - because the gray, slightly foggy and very windy conditions of earlier this morning have given way to clearing skies, sun, but with snow still falling. There's still a bit of wind out there, but it's not flag-flapping, drift-creating Siberian gusts any more. I was late because of one of the many joys of daily life in snow country, along with machine failures and snowplow-blocked roads. Snow building up along the north wall of my house (something that actually insulates us against frozen pipes and other possible occurrences) instead pushed against the gas meter, causing it to shut down. So a major dig and reset later, and the gas is flowing, a shower was taken and a late but hot breakfast could be enjoyed. I always think about this when I hear about people buying resort homes in a place like this. Wouldn't it be nicer to have the hotel staff take care of all that stuff. All right, it's just sour grapes; I don't have a few million for my resort home in Hawaii yet. But winter does keep you busy in Myoko. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 426cm Posted on Saturday 25th February 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Yesterday remained grey for pretty much all of the day. This morning it is snowing lightly with ski areas reporting up to 5cm at higher elevations. Just a dusting+ around base areas. It is snowing but there's also some blue sky around, so it's not 'full-on'. Snow is forecast for the day in the mountains, though, so let's see how much more we can get. Monday and Tuesday are forecast to be clear, sunny and mild. Someone asked about how I choose which webcam image to show. No rules. I just try to choose what I feel is best each morning. Depending on the weather and what can be seen, etc. It is just a decision I make each morning after seeing what is available. --------------- Total snowfall accumulation this season so far (in upper areas) [The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated every morning] ABLE Hakuba Goryu: 610cm Hakuba 47: 552cm Hakuba Happo-one: 528cm Hakuba Cortina: 735cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort: 643cm --------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: Upper: 5cm (Alps Daira) Official snow depth: Upper: 290cm Toomi: 105cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall since last night: Upper: 5cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth: Top: 290cm Base: 150cm Hakuba Cortina Base: ?cm Official snow depth: 270cm Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: Kurobishi: 0cm Usagidaira: 2cm Top of Riesen quad: 1cm (social media) Nakiyama: 0cm Official snow depth: Kurobishi: 290cm Usagidaira: 178cm Nakiyama: 81cm Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Reported snowfall: Mountain Side: 5cm Village Side: 3cm Official snow depth: Mountain Side: 190cm Village Side: 70cm Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: 265cm Jigatake Official snow depth: 80cm Kashimayari Official snow depth: 220cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort Official snow depth: Upper: 220cm Lower: 110cm White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth: 130cm Hakuba Now 2022-2023 season Data as Saturday 25th February 2023 Total snowfall at base so far 426cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 46 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 31cm (25th December) November 2022 snowfall 0cm December 2022 snowfall 164cm reported on 17 days January 2023 snowfall 178cm reported on 17 days February 2023 snowfall 84cm reported on 12 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. - Niseko Now: Friday 24th February 2023
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 929cm Posted on Friday 24th February 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here The only fresh snow I have to report to you this morning is from yesterday morning. Otherwise no fresh snow overnight. Lots of fresh snow is always lovely to report, of course, but... what a beautiful morning it is! Yes, this morning we are being treated to some clear blue skies and sunshine. We haven't had that many of these mornings this season, so it feels fresh and exciting (for me, anyway). Mt Yotei is looking majestic. We should be back to fresh snowfall tomorrow and over the weekend, so hopefully that will give us a good reset. Anyway, I'm off out to enjoy this weather! --------------- Niseko Avalanche Report Mountain base: -5C, no new snow, calm. Moiwa 800m: -7.4C, WNW2.2m/s, light wind, no new snow. Annupuri 1100m: -10.3C, WNW2.2m/s, light wind, sunny good visibility. Mizuno no Sawa: -10.0C, NNW3.2m/s. Hirafu Hanazono: -10.6C, NNE5.1m/s, no new snow. Hanazono#3: -7.4C, NNW0.6m/s. Coastal data: Benkei Cape S2m/s, Kamui Cape SSW5m/s, 1017hPa, 0.9m waves. Clear skies, calm and no snow on the seas and mountains. The general avalanche risk is low. All gates are expected to be open. Prepare properly before going out of bounds. Do not wait in the valley bottoms, if an avalanche comes it will follow the creek. Although avalanche beacons are not compulsory, they are recommended. They can save you or your friends' lives. Do not enter strictly off limits areas in search of fresh snow. The risk of a large scale avalanche is increasing on the cracked south facing upper slopes of Haru no Taki. Off piste is tracked out and rough. Be careful falling and hitting trees or falling into creeks. Yesterday's low pressure snowfall combined with this morning's frost are expected to be a significant layer in the future snowpack. Have a good day. --------------- Ski area information for Friday 24th February 2023 The below snow depth and snowfall numbers are manually checked each morning from official sources.
