- Yuzawa Now: Friday 8th March 2019
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 983cm Posted on Friday 8th March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Very happy news to report this morning - for the first time in quite a while, there's fresh snow on the ground! Yesterday was actually kind of disappointing down at town level. It was trying to snow later on but it didn't really manage to get going and it remained wet. But higher up Kagura resort were reporting 5cm of fresh snow early yesterday morning and then an additional 10cm during the day, so that's 15cm up there by the end of the day. (At the start of the day Maiko were reporting 2cm). And this morning we have snow right down to town level. Woohoo! It's great to see a layer of snow on the ground again, and the way it was falling when I got up it felt like mid winter again. I am measuring 15cm of fresh snow here in town as of 7:45am and with snow coming down now I definitely be adding to that in the report tomorrow. Depending on where you are, there's between around 10-20cm of so of fresh snow around base areas this morning. It is still snowing but the snow is due to ease off and we might even see some breaks in the clouds later on in the day. Higher up, Kagura are reporting an impressive 30cm this morning. If that is in addition to what they reported yesterday, I make that up to 45cm. Nice. (They are also saying the top Number 2 lift won't be opening due to wind conditions). It will be interesting to see if they change their official snow depth numbers, though that is hardly important! Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 20cm of fresh snow at base and 30cm on upper areas this morning. This fresh snow is all in time for the weekend too. I expect it will get a few more people out as there is a chance that this snow may well be the last that we get, on lower slopes anyway. I know I'm going to make the most of it... just need to decide where to go! Just love snow. Clear skies, sunshine and (unfortunately) warmth - perhaps as warm as 10C in town - is forecast for tomorrow. As well as a high pollen count so if you suffer from hay fever, beware! --- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 270cm (official snow depth) Iwappara - 180cm (official snow depth) Kagura - Kagura: 320cm (official snow depth) - Mitsumata Area: 280cm (official snow depth) - Tashiro Area: 300cm (official snow depth) Kandatsu Kogen - 225cm (official snow depth) Naeba - 220cm (official snow depth) - Please see our Naeba Now report for daily updates from Naeba NASPA Ski Garden - 185cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Kogen - Top: 230cm (official snow depth) - Base: 130cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Park - 155cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Nakazato - 160cm (official snow depth) ----- Ski resorts in Minamiuonuma - just to the north of Yuzawa: Ishiuchi Maruyama - Top: 220cm (official snow depth) - Base: 160cm (official snow depth) Joetsu Kokusai - 220cm (official snow depth) Maiko Snow Resort - Top: 260cm (official snow depth) - Base: 80cm (official snow depth) Muikamachi Hakkaisan - 270cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Now 2018-2019 season Data as of Friday 8th March 2019 Total snowfall at base so far 983cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 53 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 63cm (22nd January) November 2018 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day December 2018 snowfall 253cm reported on 13 days January 2019 snowfall 523cm reported on 24 days February 2019 snowfall 190cm reported on 14 days March 2019 snowfall 15cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. - Yuzawa Now: Saturday 9th March 2019
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 987cm Posted on Saturday 9th March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It feels very different this morning after that mini-blast of winter yesterday. Yesterday snow continued falling after my report - that is the 4cm snow that is added to my report today - though it eased off by late morning. There was some blue sky and a bit of sun at times, but the day ended up mostly just cloudy. I found myself over at Maiko Snow Resort and I must admit that with them reporting 30cm I was expecting the snow up there to be softer than it was on the courses. By the sides of the courses was nice but the courses were pretty hard. But anyway, good work out for the legs and that layer of snow is most definitely better being there than if it wasn't there. It didn't feel warm but by the end of the day the snow that had been sitting on top of a stationary car near by place had almost gone... Anyway, this morning the sun is out and it is a really beautiful morning. Totally clear blue skies. It is cold early on too, a few under zero, but forecast to warm up to around +10C later on today. I would expect morning snow conditions to be nice before the sun gets hold of it. Tomorrow should be similarly warm (if not a little warmer) with rain forecast for the night. Hope you can enjoy the weekend. --- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 290cm (official snow depth) Iwappara - 175cm (official snow depth) Kagura - Kagura: 320cm (official snow depth) - Mitsumata Area: 280cm (official snow depth) - Tashiro Area: 300cm (official snow depth) Kandatsu Kogen - 225cm (official snow depth) Naeba - 220cm (official snow depth) - Please see our Naeba Now report for daily updates from Naeba NASPA Ski Garden - 195cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Kogen - Top: 230cm (official snow depth) - Base: 130cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Park - 155cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Nakazato - 160cm (official snow depth) ----- Ski resorts in Minamiuonuma - just to the north of Yuzawa: Ishiuchi Maruyama - Top: 220cm (official snow depth) - Base: 160cm (official snow depth) Joetsu Kokusai - 230cm (official snow depth) Maiko Snow Resort - Top: 280cm (official snow depth) - Base: 100cm (official snow depth) Muikamachi Hakkaisan - 270cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Now 2018-2019 season Data as of Saturday 9th March 2019 Total snowfall at base so far 987cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 54 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 63cm (22nd January) November 2018 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day December 2018 snowfall 253cm reported on 13 days January 2019 snowfall 523cm reported on 24 days February 2019 snowfall 190cm reported on 14 days March 2019 snowfall 19cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. - Yuzawa Now: Thursday 14th March 2019
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 19cm Snowfall at base this season 1006cm Posted on Thursday 14th March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was colder yesterday and bits of rain at times during the day. But the excellent news this morning is the 20cm or so fresh snow on the ground around town areas. Brilliant. We have measured 17cm, 19cm and 22cm in different places - 19cm at the usual point. Kagura resort are reporting 30cm of fresh snow. And what's more, the sun is out just to the north of Yuzawa - it may well end up being just a short period of sunshine and might not stretch down to Yuzawa, but there is a chance we will enjoy a sunny day. Or maybe not! Sun or not, there's a decent layer of fresh snow to enjoy this morning. Apparently the top Number 5 lift at Kagura will be closed today due to windy conditions up there. It does feel a bit windy out there actually so might need to keep an eye on that - I cannot find any info of other lifts being closed just at the moment. - Yuzawa Now: Friday 15th March 2019
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 1007cm Posted on Friday 15th March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Light snow continued after my report was posted but it didn't really result in much more on the ground (the 1cm in the report today is from yesterday morning). Great to see that snow though and with the clearer conditions later in the day I am sure people enjoyed it. Even with the rather blowy wind. This morning there are clear blue skies all around - it's a beautiful morning. Quite cold too but likely to warm up to around 7-8C in town later in the afternoon. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 1014cm Posted on Sunday 24th March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Well how about this then!? This morning Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 10-20cm of fresh snow on their slopes. Kagura are reporting 15cm. We have just measured between 5-9cm in different areas around town level, with our trusted spot showing 7cm. That is a very nice late March surprise. It is just snowing very lightly right now and should be easing off sometime this morning. Quite cold and hanging around zero for now, won't warm up much. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 1018cm Posted on Monday 25th March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday was a real surprise - especially as snow was falling pretty much through the day, so there will have been more cm added on the slopes. I measured an additional 4cm of snowfall since the morning. It felt very much like winter once again and while I didn't get out skiing or snowboarding myself I heard some good reports from people who did. It's always good to have a 'bonus' like that in the late stages of the season. This morning it's all change again with clear skies over Yuzawa (some cloud to the north in Minamiuonuma) and early morning sunshine. It's a chilly start. A bit windy too, but hopefully not enough to affect lift operations. I suggest checking as opening time approaches (sorry, we need to get the report posted early this morning so don't have any further info available to share at the time of this report). While it is a cold start to the morning, milder temps are due today and tomorrow (up to around 10C in town) with lots of sunshine forecast. It should be a good few days... and with the prospect of some further snow later in the week too! --- Muikamachi Hakkaisan closed at the end of yesterday. Interesting how that one always seems to close sooner than it needs to. They were still reporting over 2m or so of snow depth. - Yuzawa Now: Wednesday 3rd April 2019
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 18cm Snowfall at base this season 1039cm Posted on Wednesday 3rd April 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. It really does feel like winter again at the moment. There's fresh snow on the roads and there is snow hanging on the trees. It's cold too. Get this - Kagura yesterday were reporting 40cm (40cm!!) (!) of fresh snowfall. And this morning it looks like they are reporting 50cm. Ishiuchi Maruyama are reporting 40cm. These are really big numbers. It was snowing (mostly) on and (sometimes) off for most of the day yesterday and there is a good layer fresh snowfall on the ground around town since yesterday. To the north in Minamiuonuma, a friend has just told me there's more than 30cm on the top of their car this morning. I haven't taken a look back at the archives of late but I can't remember an early April like this. It is still snowing and it is due to be snowing for at least this morning, perhaps easing off later in the day or tonight. And tomorrow we can expect clearer skies, sunshine and warmer temperatures. So might this snowfall be the last of the season? I think possibly yes, but you never know... and the forecast does still show signs of some more potential snow. Let's see. For now, those lucky enough to time a visit at the moment - well done! --- Today is the last day of the season for the Yuzawa Nakazato resort. I bet they didn't think that they'd be serving up fresh snow on this last day! --- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 260cm (official snow depth) - The Central Area and part of the Northern Area remain open - The lift connections between GALA Yuzawa and Yuzawa Kogen and Ishiuchi Maruyama are now closed Iwappara - 110cm (official snow depth) - All areas remain open Kagura - Kagura: 260cm (official snow depth) - Mitsumata Area: 200cm (official snow depth) - Tashiro Area: 230cm (official snow depth) Kandatsu Kogen - 200cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Nakazato - 120cm (official snow depth) --- Ski resorts in Minamiuonuma - just to the north of Yuzawa: Ishiuchi Maruyama - Top: 150cm (official snow depth) - Base: 90cm (official snow depth) - Access via the Chuo base area - The lift connection between the top area and the North Area of GALA Yuzawa resort is now closed Joetsu Kokusai - 150cm (official snow depth) --- Planned closing dates for each ski resort in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma (subject to change) Until Wednesday 3rd April - Yuzawa Nakazato Until Sunday 7th April - Ishiuchi Maruyama - Iwappara - Joetsu Kokusai - Maiko Snow Resort (* note: closed from 1st through 5th April) - Nakazato Snow Wood Until Sunday 21st April - Kandatsu Kogen Until Monday 6th May - GALA Yuzawa - Kagura (Tashiro Ropeway) Until Sunday 26th May - Kagura (via Mitsumata Ropeway) Already closed - Chateau Shiozawa - Hakkai Sanroku - Ipponsugi - Ishiuchi Hanaoka - Itsukamachi - Muica Snow Resort - Muikamachi Hakkaisan - Naeba - NASPA Ski Garden - Yuzawa Park - Yuzawa Kogen Yuzawa Now 2018-2019 season Data as of Wednesday 3rd April 2019 Total snowfall at base so far 1039cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 60 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 63cm (22nd January) November 2018 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day December 2018 snowfall 253cm reported on 13 days January 2019 snowfall 523cm reported on 24 days February 2019 snowfall 190cm reported on 14 days March 2019 snowfall 50cm reported on 6 days April 2019 snowfall 21cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 1041cm Posted on Thursday 4th April 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Hello and good morning from Yuzawa. After the cold and snow (and wind in places) that everyone was surprised and talking about... there are blue skies this morning with just a little cloud around in places. It is going to be a fine day with much milder temperatures, perhaps up to around 10C or even a little more - and more sunshine with the temps rising further tomorrow. So back to spring, it would seem. It should be a great day to be out on the slopes. --- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 300cm (official snow depth) - The Central Area and part of the Northern Area remain open - The lift connections between GALA Yuzawa and Yuzawa Kogen and Ishiuchi Maruyama are now closed Iwappara - 110cm (official snow depth) - All areas remain open Kagura - Kagura: 270cm (official snow depth) - Mitsumata Area: 210cm (official snow depth) - Tashiro Area: 240cm (official snow depth) Kandatsu Kogen - 215cm (official snow depth) --- Ski resorts in Minamiuonuma - just to the north of Yuzawa: Ishiuchi Maruyama - Top: 150cm (official snow depth) - Base: 90cm (official snow depth) - Access via the Chuo base area - The lift connection between the top area and the North Area of GALA Yuzawa resort is now closed Joetsu Kokusai - 170cm (official snow depth) --- Planned closing dates for each ski resort in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma (subject to change) Until Sunday 7th April - Ishiuchi Maruyama - Iwappara - Joetsu Kokusai - Maiko Snow Resort (* note: closed from 1st through 5th April) - Nakazato Snow Wood Until Sunday 21st April - Kandatsu Kogen Until Monday 6th May - GALA Yuzawa - Kagura (Tashiro Ropeway) Until Sunday 26th May - Kagura (via Mitsumata Ropeway) Already closed - Chateau Shiozawa - Hakkai Sanroku - Ipponsugi - Ishiuchi Hanaoka - Itsukamachi - Muica Snow Resort - Muikamachi Hakkaisan - Naeba - NASPA Ski Garden - Yuzawa Kogen - Yuzawa Nakazato - Yuzawa Park Yuzawa Now 2018-2019 season Data as of Thursday 4th April 2019 Total snowfall at base so far 1041cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 61 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 63cm (22nd January) November 2018 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day December 2018 snowfall 253cm reported on 13 days January 2019 snowfall 523cm reported on 24 days February 2019 snowfall 190cm reported on 14 days March 2019 snowfall 50cm reported on 6 days April 2019 snowfall 23cm reported on 3 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. There was some rain yesterday but let's quickly forget that and be happy that it has been snowing again! Not much - there is just a thin light dusting around town areas - but I expect there will be a fair bit more than that higher up on the open resort areas. (No word from Kagura just yet). It's a real bonus for this time of the year. Just 30 minutes ago the Route 17 / Yuzawa IC webcam image (below) was showing that thin white covering on the road, but that has pretty much gone already now. We are forecast a day of cloudy conditions today with any lingering light snow drying up this morning and perhaps more of the same tomorrow too, with temps rising to around 6C during the daytime. --- GALA Yuzawa - Official snow depth: 240cm - The Central Area and part of the Northern Area of GALA Yuzawa remain open - The downhill Falcon course is now closed for the season - take the Gondola down - GALA Yuzawa plans to be open until Monday 6th May Kagura - Official snow depth: 260cm (Kagura); 230cm (Tashiro); 200cm (Mitsumata) - Kagura remains almost fully open - Tashiro Ropeway plans to be open until Monday 6th May - Kagura via Mitsumata Ropeway plans to be open until Sunday 26th May Kandatsu Kogen - Official snow depth: 170cm - Kandatsu remains part open - Kandatsu Kogen plans to be open until Sunday 21st April --- All other ski resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region are now closed for the season. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It's Friday! Yesterday was very warm in the sunshine. I sat out in the sun for 30 minutes early afternoon - very pleasant. If only summer could keep to those sort of temperatures (early 20s)! A fair bit of remaining snow will have been melting away in that... This morning there is a lot of cloud around. It looks like there was some rain overnight but it is not raining at the moment and the chance of any light rain this morning should be gone come this afternoon. It's definitely cooler as well and it will probably struggle to get much over 10C today. Sunshine is forecast over the weekend with warmer temps (though not as warm as yesterday, more like mid-teens).
