  • Yuzawa Now: Saturday 9th February 2019

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 16cm Snowfall at base this season 861cm Posted on Saturday 9th February 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Snow most of the day yesterday which was good to see and I cleared away 15cm of snow last night and there's 1cm more there this morning. Kagura this morning are reporting 10cm of fresh snowfall and Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 5-10cm. This morning it is generally cloudy over the region. Sounds like it is going to be snowing in Tokyo this morning. Heavy snow alert! 5cm! Here in Snow Country we can have a bit of a laugh at such a small amount, but if you're not prepared for it or used to it, just a bit of snow can cause big problems. This weekend is one of the most popular of the season because Monday is a national holiday. The weather conditions in the capital region may well put some people off being away for the weekend... Take care everyone. Hopefully more fresh snow tonight and snow falling tomorrow too. ---- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 300cm (official snow depth) Iwappara - 215cm (official snow depth) Kagura - Unconfirmed! The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good news! A decent amount of fresh snowfall since yesterday, mostly overnight. Maiko are reporting 20cm overnight and Kagura are reporting 30cm. We have measured and just wiped 28cm off our measuring point this morning. (Didn't do that yesterday so that is from yesterday morning). Kagura are reporting some moderate wind higher up but for the moment all appears to be open as normal. It is still snowing, though expected to ease off. Currently -3C so it feels nice and cold. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 894cm Posted on Monday 11th February 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. No fresh snow overnight - just a dusting - but there was 6cm by the evening yesterday. Popular ski resorts around Yuzawa were looking very busy yesterday! It's not often these days that you see long lines for ski lifts. Not ideal for people waiting in them perhaps, but it is good to resorts enjoying popularity. We can surely expect a busier-than-normal Monday today, but things should be getting quieter in the afternoon as lots of folk start to make their way back home. It is a cold and icy morning, currently -4C just after 8am. We are due more snowfall once again tomorrow. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday slowly cleared up and ended up with lovely clear skies by later in the afternoon. We're back to snow this morning and 13cm of new snow just measured here in town. It's actually coming down really nicely at the moment; big flakes. Light snow seems to be the forecast for the day and tomorrow too, so we should be seeing more cm pile up. Both Kagura and Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 15cm of fresh snowfall. It's not as cold as it was yesterday morning and currently about -1C and probably won't get much higher than that during the day. ---- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 330cm (official snow depth) Iwappara - 225cm (official snow depth) Kagura - Unconfirmed! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 922cm Posted on Wednesday 13th February 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. It's still snowing. Not huge numbers - 8cm by last night and an additional 7cm this morning, and so I am adding 15cm to the report this morning. For the record, Kagura are reporting 5cm and Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 5-10cm. Light snow seems to be what all the forecasts are telling us to expect for the day today, easing off by tonight; and then some more light snow early tomorrow and maybe we will see some sunshine on Friday. All ski areas in the area should be open as normal this morning. ---- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 340cm (official snow depth) Iwappara - 230cm (official snow depth) Kagura - Unconfirmed! (Kagura are reporting 20cm and Maiko are reporting 10cm, though those are presumably 'overnight' numbers). So another nice layer of snow to play in this morning and it is still snowing though expected to ease during the morning leaving us just with cloudy skies later. There may be some sun in the morning tomorrow... and then back to snow on Saturday. We have returned to some good consistency which is always good to be able to report. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 11cm Snowfall at base this season 948cm Posted on Friday 15th February 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It feels like it is going to be a lovely sunny day here. There is some cloud early on but already lots of blue sky and sunshine and I imagine more as the morning goes on. Another 11cm of snowfall to report since yesterday morning with light snow falling for lots of the day yesterday. It is another cold start to the day, so first tracks should be really great this morning. (I really wish I could be out there this morning!) This report is a bit early, so some of the snow depth numbers have not been updated for the day, because the updated info is not yet available. The snow clouds are forecast to be back tomorrow with snow likely during the day. Looking ahead a little further along it looks like we are going to have another relatively warm spell early next week... ----- The Tokamachi Yuki Matsuri (Snow Festival) is being held this weekend over in Tokamachi city, which is about 45 minutes drive from Yuzawa. It is one of the largest in the region. Unfortunately, when we had that warmer spell recently there was some melt going on and an accident due to a stage becoming unstable and for that reason they have cancelled the Carnival event. All of the other events are still going ahead though including lots of snow sculptures around the central area which are always worth a look. The Festival starts today and continues until Sunday. ---- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 340cm (official snow depth) Iwappara - 240cm (official snow depth) Kagura - Kagura: 390cm (official snow depth) - Mitsumata Area: 350cm (official snow depth) - Tashiro Area: 370cm (official snow depth) Kandatsu Kogen - 275cm (official snow depth) Naeba - 200cm (official snow depth) - Please see our Naeba Now report for daily updates from Naeba NASPA Ski Garden - 275cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Kogen - Top: 300cm (official snow depth) - Base: 200cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Park - 235cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Nakazato - 210cm (official snow depth) ----- Ski resorts in Minamiuonuma - just to the north of Yuzawa: Ishiuchi Maruyama - Top: 290cm (official snow depth) - Base: 220cm (official snow depth) Joetsu Kokusai - 310cm (official snow depth) Maiko Snow Resort - Top: 335cm (official snow depth) - Base: 180cm (official snow depth) Muikamachi Hakkaisan - 320cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Now 2018-2019 season Data as of Friday 15th February 2019 Total snowfall at base so far 948cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 49 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 63cm (22nd January) November 2018 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day December 2018 snowfall 253cm reported on 13 days January 2019 snowfall 523cm reported on 24 days February 2019 snowfall 170cm reported on 11 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 950cm Posted on Saturday 16th February 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Just after I posted the report yesterday, it got rather cloudy. And then it started clearing up again by mid morning and it ended up being a fine day, though never totally clear. As I was driving down route 17 in mid afternoon the temperature panel said +3C. I had a really good few hours yesterday morning; the snow was in really good condition. This morning it is cloudy and I can't see much of the mountains and there's some light snow falling and a slight dusting on the top of the car; a few cm in places. It is noticeably not as cold this morning as it has been in recent mornings, though if the forecasts are correct the temp shouldn't be rising much during the day. (Early in the coming week, we can expect warmer conditions...) Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 5cm of fresh snow with Kagura reporting 1cm. The latter are also saying that they expect some stronger winds later on. So, light snow forecast for the day into tomorrow morning. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Light snow through the day yesterday and there wasn't so much in terms of cm on the ground but this morning we just cleared away 17cm which was good to see. It is still snowing now and light snow is forecast for the day, with a chance it might stop sometime before late afternoon. Kagura are reporting about 25cm and Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 15-20cm of fresh snowfall. (Just to explain once again; the reason why we mention the fresh snowfall being reported by those two ski resorts is simply because they put those numbers out in a morning. And good on them, I say. If other ski resorts put those numbers out into the world, we'd mention them too!) Sunshine is currently forecast for tomorrow and as we approach mid week some warmer conditions are likely. Temps may even get into double digits around Tuesday and Wednesday which won't be great for the snow. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday light snow continued for most of the morning with some sunshine in the afternoon and then a return to snow later on, so some mixed conditions. There has just been a little snow down at town with perhaps more higher up. It was pretty busy at the popular resorts yesterday so any additional fresh was being tracked pretty quickly. This morning starts off with some cloud and blue sky over Yuzawa and we are forecast some fine weather with a high of around 6C in town later in the afternoon. It's still looking like we are going to be having a relatively mild week and there's currently some rain on the forecast for Wednesday. Let's hope that Nature is kind to us and our snow! ---- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 350cm (official snow depth) Iwappara - 235cm (official snow depth) Kagura - Kagura: 390cm (official snow depth) - Mitsumata Area: 350cm (official snow depth) - Tashiro Area: 370cm (official snow depth) Kandatsu Kogen - 270cm (official snow depth) Naeba - 220cm (official snow depth) - Please see our Naeba Now report for daily updates from Naeba NASPA Ski Garden - 295cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Kogen - Top: 300cm (official snow depth) - Base: 200cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Park - 240cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Nakazato - 220cm (official snow depth) ----- Ski resorts in Minamiuonuma - just to the north of Yuzawa: Ishiuchi Maruyama - Top: 300cm (official snow depth) - Base: 220cm (official snow depth) Joetsu Kokusai - 320cm (official snow depth) Maiko Snow Resort - Top: 340cm (official snow depth) - Base: 180cm (official snow depth) Muikamachi Hakkaisan - 320cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Now 2018-2019 season Data as of Monday 18th February 2019 Total snowfall at base so far 968cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 52 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 63cm (22nd January) November 2018 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day December 2018 snowfall 253cm reported on 13 days January 2019 snowfall 523cm reported on 24 days February 2019 snowfall 190cm reported on 14 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. A dry spell. Beautiful blue skies above Yuzawa yesterday and mild too up to around 8C in town. It felt very spring-like. This morning it is noticeably more chilly at around 1C and it shouldn't be warming up too much beyond that. Cloudy at the start of the day but there's actually some very (very) light snow starting to fall in higher places. Light snow is on the forecast for later on, we shouldn't expect much. But can always hope to be wrong! Tomorrow the sun should be out and will be a little warmer once again. Not too much please! Have a good Saturday wherever you are. ---- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 300cm (official snow depth) Iwappara - 210cm (official snow depth) Kagura - Kagura: 350cm (official snow depth) - Mitsumata Area: 310cm (official snow depth) - Tashiro Area: 330cm (official snow depth) Kandatsu Kogen - 230cm (official snow depth) Naeba - 220cm (official snow depth) - Please see our Naeba Now report for daily updates from Naeba NASPA Ski Garden - 230cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Kogen - Top: 270cm (official snow depth) - Base: 170cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Park - 200cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Nakazato - 205cm (official snow depth) ----- Ski resorts in Minamiuonuma - just to the north of Yuzawa: Ishiuchi Maruyama - Top: 260cm (official snow depth) - Base: 200cm (official snow depth) Joetsu Kokusai - 290cm (official snow depth) Maiko Snow Resort - Top: 280cm (official snow depth) - Base: 120cm (official snow depth) Muikamachi Hakkaisan - 320cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Now 2018-2019 season Data as of Saturday 23rd February 2019 Total snowfall at base so far 968cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 52 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 63cm (22nd January) November 2018 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day December 2018 snowfall 253cm reported on 13 days January 2019 snowfall 523cm reported on 24 days February 2019 snowfall 190cm reported on 14 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Friday 1st March 2019

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 968cm Posted on Friday 1st March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. Not been able to report any new cm for a while now... Yesterday there was a bit of snowfall up in higher areas in the morning and Kagura this morning are reporting 1cm of fresh snow. Down in town areas it was up to around 6C in the afternoon and mostly just cloudy. There were a few spots of rain at times, but happily not much at all. This morning it is mostly cloudy, quite bright with some blue sky. Overnight tonight there is a chance of some light snow / light rain, it doesn't look like it will be particularly cold so it might be borderline. Tomorrow we should get to see some sunshine in the daytime. Temperatures around 5-6C during the day both today and tomorrow. --- The Echigo Yuzawa Onsen Yuki Matsuri (Snow Festival) will be held in the central area of town on Saturday (2nd March). There will be things going on between the West Exit of Echigo Yuzawa Station and Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway, with events being held from 6pm until 9pm on the Nunoba area of Yuzawa Kogen resort (close to the Ropeway base station). Hopefully the weather will be good for the event. --- Ski resorts in Yuzawa: GALA Yuzawa - 270cm (official snow depth) Iwappara - 195cm (official snow depth) Kagura - Kagura: 340cm (official snow depth) - Mitsumata Area: ?cm (official snow depth) - Tashiro Area: ?cm (official snow depth) Kandatsu Kogen - 220cm (official snow depth) Naeba - 220cm (official snow depth) - Please see our Naeba Now report for daily updates from Naeba NASPA Ski Garden - 220cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Kogen - Top: 250cm (official snow depth) - Base: 150cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Park - 180cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Nakazato - 170cm (official snow depth) Yuzawa Now 2018-2019 season Data as of Friday 1st March 2019 Total snowfall at base so far 968cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 52 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 63cm (22nd January) November 2018 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day December 2018 snowfall 253cm reported on 13 days January 2019 snowfall 523cm reported on 24 days February 2019 snowfall 190cm reported on 14 days March 2019 snowfall 0cm Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa.
