  • Hakuba Now: Wednesday 12th March 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 753cm Posted on Wednesday 12th March 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Quickly trying to forget those spots of rain yesterday (snow higher up)... Blue skies up on the slopes this morning with a more cloudy feel down at base, it is a 'sea of cloud' thing going on (which will likely not last long). Anyway, it sounds like a good reason to get on those lifts! Not that we need an excuse of course. We are definitely going through this current mild spell, but I can see snow on forecasts once again, tempting us with fresh starting from Sunday. Before then, it's going to be a fair amount of sun and spring-like conditions to enjoy. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Just a little bit of fresh snow overnight, after a pretty mild day. It wasn’t that warm, but there was a lot of melting on the streets (and splashing of slush on those working alongside, he says knowledgeably). It almost seems like the sun wants to come out at the moment, although it’s full cloudy at the moment. Today’s highlight is the Yama no Kami (Mountain God) ceremony/event at Akakan at 11am. The resort has made this small local event something for all visitors; come and join on the kampai! toast, and get a little wooden saké masu cup. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It was quite cold yesterday and some wind too in the morning. Nice March conditions to enjoy, yey. Today will probably be less cold with temps heading into milder/warmer territory over the coming week. And probably quite a lot of sunshine too and hopefully without wind. Tsugaike Ropeway will be open today. A reminder about that: The Ropeway at the top of Tsugaike Kogen only opens during the spring season and they have told us when that will be this season. It will open every day through 31st March, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between 4th April and 27th April, and then every day from 28th April through 6th May. Open from 8:30am until (last one down) 3:00pm in March and 3:30pm after that. Be advised that extra yens are required to use it. 760 of them for one way and 1390 of them for a return ride (adult charges). Children are charged 380 yen and 700 yen. It is also important to note that a Mountain Climbing Notification must be submitted to ride the ropeway and that can be done in advance online. They also wisely say "going into the backcountry requires proper equipment and planning". • Myoko Now: Saturday 8th March 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 11cm Snowfall at base this season 1542cm Posted on Saturday 8th March 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Cold overnight here—it got down to nearly -9° here at the base, and was still -6° at 7am. The wind has died down, which is nice. Gives us time to clear out the drifts in places where the wind comes in from the north (like my house, which I nominate for worst designed entry in the greater Myoko area). It’s overcast with a very high cloud cover that is giving us good visibility, with the sun just trying to come out at times. I hear that some lifts were running intermittently yesterday afternoon when the winds were especially strong. While I know a lot of people don’t want a lot of major development here that would ruin the Myoko feeling, I do wish we could get some of the operating companies to put some money into aging lifts (and a wise editor of mine noted that this isn’t just a Myoko phenomenon, since there are a lot of 40-year-old lifts from the bubble days still churning along, if not always continuously). When the wind is too high, there’s nothing you can do about it, but too many lifts run a bit too erratically.... Our daily reports are not posted on behalf of ski areas or any other business or organisation. Since first going online in 1999, the integrity of this website has always been our top priority, and it is something we are not prepared to compromise. All content is carefully created and written by humans who share a passion for the subject and what SnowJapan stands for. About SnowJapan.com About the daily reporting on SnowJapan.com
