It started early on and we just had a dusting overnight but has since got colder and it's really falling from the skies nicely now. Hopefully we will get a decent build up of fresh snow on the slopes today and with temps due to drop this afternoon it should be good quality as well. Right now it's relavitvely 'mild' for Shiga Kogen, though still around -5C as of 11am. This snowfall is forecast to continue overnight and ease off tomorrow. Then more snow due later in the week. Poor visibility out there in all areas of Shiga Kogen this morning. Lots of snow please! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Perhaps somewhat unexpected snow to report this morning, but I'm pleased about that. 10cm or so since yesterday I'd say and more higher up I would think. Light snow is still falling as we approach lunchtime here in Maruike, but in places around the resorts some blue skies have been appearing and the sun as well shining down. It looks and feels like it will clear up as the forecast told us to expect. Good chance of the sun out over the weekend, especially tomorrow. As you may well know it's a long weekend this weekend with Monday as a Japanese national holiday and so it should be lively out there. Certainly much more than weekendays like today, when the slopes are very quiet indeed. Hope you have a good weekend wherever you may be. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 183cm Weather overview Cloud, light snow Wind Light Temperature - Visibility Fair Posted on Thursday 10th January 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It is good to see snow back with us today. A few cm overnight and a few cm more on cars parked around areas as I was driving around earlier on. Light snow is still falling here in Maruike, but it's not heavy snow by any means - more the kind that will just give us a thin dusting so no changes to those snow depths shown below. It looks like by tomorrow we might be back to clear and sunny skies over Shiga Kogen, with more of that on Saturday as well. In fact, aside from the chance of some sprinklings overnight, there doesn't seem to be much chance of snow in the coming week. Somewhat worrying for early-mid January. Cold front... this way please! From where I am writing in Maruike, there is a bit of sunlight peeking through the clouds every now and again. There is a lot of cloud around this morning though and in places light snow is falling. Only light though, nothing major at all. Clear and sunny conditions are very likely tomorrow and perhaps the day after. It's going to be around Wednesday before we can expect the next potential decent snowfall. Surprisingly quiet on the lifts this morning when I took a quick drive around earlier on... The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The sun has been shining down on us so far today, something of a contrast to yesterday and good timing for the weekend. A beautiful day. Not much else to say really! Cold start with temperatures down to -18C early on but warming up - slightly - with the sun. Hard packed snow covered roads that aren't melting away even this afternoon. A definte feel good day and not too busy out there actually. I had a few runs at Kumanoyu and the were lifts going up there with no people on them. Nice. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 25cm Snowfall at base this season 166cm Weather overview Snow Wind Moderate Temperature - Visibility Variable Posted on Friday 4th January 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . According to my eyes, there has been at least 20-30cm of new snow fall since yesterday. Probably more on the mountain. Wind has been blowing it around the last day or so, and so varying and of course Shiga Kogen covers a large area.... The only snow depth number listed below - those being the official numbers that the resorts report of course - that has changed to reflect the new snowfall is the one for Terakoya. Well done Terakoya! It's somewhat frustrating that the resorts don't seem to want to keep those numbers up to date and celebrate the new snow. If I were a resort, I'd be shouting about it and dancing around. But, anyway, that's what I am here for - to tell you how much has actually fallen! Snow will likely ease later on and tomorrow is due to be a fine and sunny day according to the forecasts. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The snow clouds moved in later on in the day yesterday and this morning we have around 10cm of new snowfall around Shiga Kogen and the snow is falling now still. It is a cold, snowy and quite windy morning and is likely to continue with similar conditions throughout today. Generally poor visibility on the slopes. After the busy New Year holidays we are getting quieter now... having said that I don't think it was too bad over New Year this time. Some people will have an extended holiday and so we can expect a fairly busy weekend coming up as well. So a bright and sunny start to the day. But things are about to change with a cold wintery weather pattern due with us today - I was hoping already, but it does still seem to be on it's way - and snow is very probably later today and tomorrow. With a good chance of strong winds... actually there's a fair wind this morning. For now though a fine morning weather-wise. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Happy New Year. Not the chart-busting numbers I was hoping for this morning and nothing more than a thin new layer of snow really to report this morning. Some cloud around but generally bright and even sunny conditions this morning. Happily it is remaining quite cold. Light snow possible today later on and snow is lined up on that forecast for the following few days as well. Might have stronger winds as well tomorrow so possible stormy conditions with temperatures also set to plummet. Sounds good to me. (Well, apart from the wind!) Just a fairly thin layer of new snow from yesterday but this morning it's blue skies over Shiga Kogen and while it's still below zero, it's not too far under and so quite a mild start to the day. More of that tomorrow, probably even more so, before temperatures plummet from Monday and we see snow as well. The local forecast tells us to expect a snowy New Year. Low pockets of cloud in places but generally visibility good and the sun trying to shine through the clouds in places. It's not as cold as we had things yesterday. Some forecasts tell us there's a chance of snow showers later on, but it probably won't be anything that will deliver us many cm of new snow. Snow is definitely due on Sunday though and through into the New Year.
