The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . As expected, it snowed a fair bit last night with 30 cm of fresh snow reported above the 1600m level. Around the village around 3cm of fresh snow is on the ground. Hakuba 47 are reporting 10cm of fresh snow at base, 20cm up at the top of the Gondola and 30-40cm at the top of the resort. Happo-one say they have 90cm. So some new snowfall - and nice light snow too. It should be very nice up there today. Light breezes this morning now and temperatures are between 0-2 degrees. There is a little bit of fog and cloud about the mountain ranges at the moment, but clear at base levels from 780-1200m. The main highways have been cleared but are wet and could be slippery. We are still expecting that heavy snowfall and possibly blizzard like conditions over the weekend. Saturday and Sunday both look like they might bring with them some very considerable amounts of snow. Can't wait! In resort operations, at Tsugaike Kogen they have an additional lift moving - the Tsuga No2 pair lift. It also looks like Hakuba Goryu plan to have the top Number 3 pair lift operating from tomorrow. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . I bring good news! It is a very snow morning here in Hakuba. Yes, the snow is coming down very nicely this morning but curiously we are without the strong winds just at the moment, though they are still forecast to be with us as this snowfall is due to continue right through the weekend into early next week. We have at least 10cm of fresh snow down at village level at the moment but higher up on the mountain, for example, Happo-one are reporting an impressive 40cm of fresh snow up in the Usagidaira part of the resort. For those willing to venture out in the snow, like I said not as windy as we had forecast but visibility out there is very poor. Can't see much at all really. So need to take special care out there. It is still snowing and should be like this all weekend so it's really exciting to wonder just how much we can get this weekend and how awesome the conditions will be once this passes. Around the resorts, Happo have opened up the Panorama lift and course this morning. Hakuba Goryu have opened the Sky Four lift at the lower Toomi area. This morning also sees Hakuba 47 open up the lower Route 4 course and they now have the Line A and Gondola lifts operating as well. So gradually we are seeing more terrain open up, and with this snowstorm likely to bring us a good amount of snow, we can expect more of that in the coming days. Let it snow, I say! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Last night the snowfall was around 2-3 cm but strong winds blew a lot of that snow off the main mountain at Happo-one which is around 90cm. The village base has not changed and pretty much the same conditions as we saw yesterday with just a bit of snow on the ground now. This morning the sun has been out, but grey clouds persist over Hakuba's peaks and it actually seems to be getting greyer and we do have snow showers forecast for the day. The temperature is between 0 and -3 degrees Celsius it feels fairly mild around the village. Presently there is close to no wind though, above 1200m slight breezes are blowing bringing the chill factor to about -3 degrees up top. Yesterday, the Hakuba Goryu resort opened the Alps No3 pair lift and with it the Grand Prix course. After a days rest, the Line E lift at Hakuba 47 also re-opens today. If the weather forecast is spot on later in the evening as temperatures drop to a freezing -7 more light dry snowfall is expected in the area and then we have that heavy snowfall forecast for the weekend. There is a high chance of strong winds over the weekend as well which may well affect the lifts at resorts. If we get all that snow though, into next week conditions should be very nice indeed. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Now this is definitely more like it! Lots of snow to report in Hakuba and a good 30cm or so in village areas. Hakuba Goryu this morning reporting 50cm of fluffy light snow up top since yesterday, and Hakuba 47 report 40cm. Happo-one are now reporting an impressive 180cm up at the Usagidaira area of the resort. Hakuba Goryu have now opened up the Iimori Milky Way lift. Hakuba 47 are talking about the chance of Line C opening later on today, which would open up more of the mountain. It's all action as the snow arrives. And with the snow still falling and likely to continue through today and into at least tomorrow, I think we can expect to see more opening up very soon. I'll keep you informed. Poor visibility out there this morning but not as windy as we were expecting, should be some very fine snow out there to play in. Exciting! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . You want snow? We got it! It has been an amazing few days for snowfall in Hakuba and I hope that some of you have been able to enjoy it. Hakuba Goryu this morning is reporting another 40cm of fresh snowfall yesterday, and Hakuba 47 reporting another 30-40cm. Not a bad haul for the weekend?! Yesterday in all my excitement I renamed the Goryu 'Milky Four' lift the 'Milky Way' lift, my mistake - though actually today that lift is now closed and Goryu plans to open up the Iimori area again from the weekend. More news from Goryu is that they plan to have the Champion Dynamic downhill course open as soon as they have got it ready today, and they also hope to open the Champion Expert course from tomorrow. Hakuba 47 are opening up more today. The upper part of Route 1, and Routes 2,3,4,5,6 and 8 are planned to be open this morning so a large part of the resort should be open. At Happo-one, lifts that are open this week are as yesterday. I think we can hope to expect more opening up soon. Tsugaike Kogen are now reporting a whopping 240cm of snow on the upper slopes of the resort, though at the time of writing this morning strong winds on the mountain are preventing anything other than the lower part of the Gondola there from opening. The snow continues to fall, the roads are covered in snow. It's a cold -3C degrees this morning. It feels like mid-winter. Brilliant! (Forecast tells us that conditions should calm down and clear up somewhat around mid-week). The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Hello from Hakuba and apologies for the later report today. We had another 3-5cm of snow earlier on this morning in the village and about 20cm above 1200m, and it continues to snow this lunchtime. It has been a cold morning and even now remains at just around -3C degrees, there is no wind and the snow is nice and dry snow - and so is the air. We are expecting snow to continue through the day perhaps into tomorrow but after that things should be easing off somewhat and we might get to see some sun. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It started snowing in the early hours of the morning in Hakuba. We have fresh snowfall of perhaps between 3-7cm (and counting) across the valley at the moment. Wind speed is about 5m/s, it is a very grey sky out there and vision is poor with the cloud covering all nine resorts. Taking a look at the webcams though it looks like some decent snowflakes are falling up there. The good news is that it is still snowing and the prediction for today is well into the evening with powder snowfall later on. With present temperatures of -1 and 1 degree up to the early evening, Hakuba should have a nice amount of snowfall to keep people occupied this weekend. From today more of Happo-one is open again - they have the Kokusai No3 pair and Panorama pair lifts moving again for the weekend and also the Alpen quad lift - but other than that there do not seem to be any changes in resort operations just as yet. They will certainly be looking to open up more just as soon as they can though. For now... top bits! The weekend of course brings traffic from many parts of Japan and the roads were a little congested on main arterial routes earlier on. Take care driving. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . The weather today here in Hakuba is cloudy with patches of blue sky, rising to around 6 degree Celsius. There is a cool breeze around Hakuba and it is quite pleasant to walk around - local restaurants and bars are gradually opening up for trade as the ski resorts opened earlier than planned. It's still generally quiet though as perhaps you might expect. The snow around village area now gone we look towards the next snowfall. It looks like we might get some rain in the village later on today but fingers crossed that will be snow showers by late in the evening. Overnight and into tomorrow is looking positive for a decent snowfall on the mountains and tomorrow should be cold and snowy. Clearer conditions are set to return on Sunday, but hopefully by then we will have had a nice topup of snow and perhaps the resorts might be able to start opening up more terrain. We'll just have to wait and see. OK, time for a round-up of where we stand with the resorts at the moment. Hakuba Goryu remains open with the Gondola and the top No1 pair lift operating. Hakuba 47 has announced that they will be re-opening the Route 8 course and Line E lift up top from tomorrow (Saturday 1st) - hopefully right through until the end of the season this time! As things stand it will remain accessed via Goryu. Happo-one has two trails with Usagidaira and a groomed Kurobishi Trail prepared early this morning. The Adam Gondola, Usagidaira pair lift and Kurobishi No2 quad lifts are operating. At Tsugaike this morning it is sunny and the clouds haven't moved in yet, and the upper part of the resort is open with the Eve Gondola and Hannoki pair lifts operating. Hakuba Cortina plans to open on December 15th and Hakuba Iwatake is planning a December 20th opening.. whether they will open earlier if we get lots of snow? Don't know, no word on that, but I will let you know if there are any signs. First off though, we need that snow. It's remaining cold, a very cold morning here - Hakuba 47 was reporting a temperature of -7 degrees a bit earlier and I can certainly believe it. But with the sun out things should warm up a bit during the day and we might see temperatures rising to around 6 or 7 degrees in the village in the early afternoon. Resort operatings today seemingly the same as yesterday but hopefully with the next snow due late Friday into Saturday, we might see more open up this coming weekend - will let you know. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from a very winter-like and snowy Hakuba. There's not much to see this morning actually as it's an almost total white-out, where I am anyway. The cars are moving slowly on the roads as the people who still haven't changed their tyres to snow tyres suddenly regret leaving it so late! There's a good 10-20cm of snow to report this morning, perhaps more in places. Close to 20cm outside my door and it is still coming down now so if this continues during the day we should be feeling much more positive after that wet and dreary day that we had yesterday. It's still relatively wet snow, but forecast to get drier as the day goes on. Goryu are reporting 15cm of fresh snow on their slopes. 47 are actually closed once again - the rain yesterday did it's damage that the snow so far hasn't been able to fix up, but with the snow coming down as it it that will probably soon change once again. As much as I'd like to tell you that this snow is due to continue for a week.... it's not! Tomorrow we will very probably see lots of the sun and it will be much warmer than today. It will probably be the weekend before we can realistically expect any real new snowfall. So come on, let's have lots today please. Early season is so complicated, ne? The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It is clear and sunny across all of Hakuba this morning, an absolutely beautiful morning indeed. At the base in the village the temperature is around 0C but seems destined to rise quickly and top out in the afternoon at around 8 degrees. For now though it is chilly and the air is cool. The sun is out and all is good. Though we could do with a nice fresh dump of snow of course! Hakuba 47, Hakuba Goryu, Happo-one and Tsugaike Kogen all remain operating as they have been with early skiers and boarders taking advantage of the un-crowded trails. Yesterday the higher parts of mountains actually enjoyed a bit of a topup of snowfall during the afternoon, which was of course welcome. What you really want to know is when are we going to get our snow, right? Well, unfortunately it is looking likely that we will be rained on before we get snowed on. In the village at least, where tomorrow looks set to be a rainy day. The mountains may well be getting a new coat of snow at the same time, so fingers crossed on that. Tuesday should see a return to colder conditions. I won't add in the snow depth numbers to the report below yet. For the record Goryu have 35cm and Happo 60cm as their official numbers at the moment. There's still decent cover up there which is good, but there's hardly any snow remaining on the lower areas now. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . No rain early on which was good but it has started to rain lightly as temperatures rise somewhat. The forecast for Hakuba still has us down for rain in village and snow at higher elevations. We have the top areas of the Hakuba Goryu and 47 (access via Goryu) and Happo-one resorts open this morning. Tsugaike Kogen are also opening up a 840m long run up top today. It is a somewhat grey and cloudy morning with the upper parts of the mountain covered in cloud. The forecast for the coming days is mixed. Tomorrow looks set to be a cold one followed by cleared weather on Sunday and warmer temperatures on Monday, along with rain even on the mountains. That will hopefully turn into snow as we move into Tuesday. I'll keep you updated with the latest.
