Independent snow and weather reporting from the Geto Kogen region of Iwate New snowfall at base 23cm Snowfall at base this season 1123cm Posted on Wednesday 20th January 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning. This morning, more snow (but of course!) and it is still rather windy generally. The wind has really been blowing the snow around. We are still expecting things to be calming down from tomorrow and that run of days without large amounts of fresh snow. Maybe even some sun at times. That will be a change from the relentless snowfall basically since it started in December. Hopefully it won't warm up much and we can keep good quality. The snow started falling in the afternoon again yesterday after some clearer weather in the morning and this morning it's still snowing with around 30cm on the ground. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Geto Kogen region of Iwate New snowfall at base 63cm Snowfall at base this season 618cm Posted on Friday 1st January 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Geto Kogen on this first day of 2021. Mega snow once again. The resort is reporting close on 1m of snow on the upper areas of the mountain. That is an impressive way to start the year. Snow all day yesterday and more snow this morning. With snow forecast for the day. And probably snow tomorrow too. (Enough snow yet?) It is really cold out there too. Night skiing through Sunday. ---------- New Year message from SnowJapan The 2020-2021 winter season seems to have got off to a good start in many mountainous regions of Japan, with some areas enjoying some very heavy snowfalls. That is of course very encouraging to see. Even if you are having to look on from afar, we’re sure you will be glad to see a return to a more ‘normal’ pattern to the snowfall this winter. So 2020 is now behind us and we surely all hope that 2021 will be an all-round better year for everyone. If you are unable to be here... We miss you and are sorry that you can’t be here, but hope that you will be able to visit Japan in the not too distant future; and that 2021-2022 season will be open for everyone to enjoy. If you are here... Let’s all keep doing everything we can as individuals to try and keep the current situation under control. Ski areas around the country are doing their best to encourage visitors to wear face coverings, keep distance and minimise contact with guests outside their own group. Helping out in that way is surely a very small price to pay to get to enjoy the snow. One thing we have noticed this season is people mentioning how they are appreciating everything that extra bit more this year. Being thankful for the good things can’t be a bad thing. We will continue to do what we can to remain positive and genki as we cover this season. Wherever you are right now, stay safe, stay strong and take care. SnowJapan wishes you all the best for 2021. ---------- Official non compacted snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Top: 345cm Base: 240cm Planned operating lifts: Number 1 Gondola Number 1 pair lift Number 2 pair lift Number 2 Gondola [weekends & holidays only] Quad lift Planned open courses (subject to change): Main courses: all now open Tree Run Courses open: - Heart - Summit - Beach - Stream - Rabbit - Garden Geto Kogen Now 2020-2021 season Data as of Friday 1st January 2021 Total snowfall at base so far 618cm Number of days snowfall observed 21 days Most snowfall observed on 1 day 96cm (on 16th December) November 2020 snowfall 73cm observed on 3 days December 2020 snowfall 482cm observed on 17 days January 2021 snowfall 63cm observed on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Geto Kogen. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Geto Kogen region of Iwate New snowfall at base 105cm (!) Snowfall at base this season 723cm Posted on Saturday 2nd January 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Geto. It is with great pleasure - and aching arms from shovelling - that I report this morning over 1m of snow. Yes, over 1m since yesterday. There's going to be less than that - perhaps even more than that - in some places, but that is what has been measured. The resort guys I spoke to just before said it's an incredible 1.5m on the upper areas. Geto... sugoi! It is deep out there. Extra super care is needed in these conditions. All the tree run courses appear to be closed this morning. I am guessing the resort is spending some time dealing with all the snow. But all the main courses are open. Looks like things should be less extreme over the next few days but the snow isn't going to be far away.
