There has been a further 9cm of new snow since yesterdays report. The pistes will be nicely groomed fresh powder, while the ungroomed areas will have plenty of snow to play in with yesterday and todays snowfalls combined. Heavy snow is forecast from this evening. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Got a bit of a surprise a few minutes ago when I looked out the window to see some serious snow on the ground. It is snowing heavily in the village and the accumulation is 19cm as of right now. Needless to say this will be a powder Sunday and not a day to be missed. From halfway to the top was covered in early morning valley fog. This is lifting now and the day is light overcast with the sun penetrating the thin layer of high cloud. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Happy New Year from Furano! If you have headed out for first lifts this morning you will not have had to share the mountain with many others. There was a distinct lack of people for the 8:30am start to the lifts on the Kitanomine side. I am sure the crowds will make it up after they have a couple of hours extra rest. There is only a dusting of new snow to report this morning. It looks like a pretty good day with high overcast conditions and no wind. All trails are open except Dynamic. Looking to the week ahead there is nothing significant on the snow front, with only light dustings of snow expected on and off. Lift operation times are expected to be... Snow cover remains very good on the upper areas and you can still ski top to bottom as we head into "Golden Week" though there's some ground on show on some lower areas. Friday this week is a national holiday and then next week Tuesday-Thursday are also national holidays - the whole period known as Golden Week. The Furano Ropeway and Downhill Number 3 Romance lift remain operating in the Furano Zone of the resort and the resort plans to be open until 5th May. Courses that remain open: - Prince Course - Spies Course - Sailer Course - Shirakaba Course - Panorama Course - Technical Course Note that the Kitanomine Zone is closed. Official snow depth numbers are 110cm at top and 30cm at base. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It is a nice looking morning in Furano with no wind, but pretty cold at -8c in the village. We have been lucky again and have received 10cm of very light dry powder overnight. Needless to say that at the top of the resort this will be substantially more than 10cm! There is cloud rolling over the mountain and making it down until around mid mountain. Visibility will be a bit foggy right now but that cloud may lift later on in the morning. The town has a thin layer of valley cloud over it with clear blue skies sitting above that. Looks like a great morning for some turns...I'm heading off in 5 mins to get mine! The latest Furano Now report can be found here . There's a lot of wind today! Presently we have strong NW winds and the occasional flurry of snow. The temperature at base is 3 degrees. Unfortunately the ropeway is not operational today due to high winds. The Romance lift is operating. There is still some snow on the forecast in the coming week for higher elevations though there is a good chance it will be falling as rain at base. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Welcome to Saturday, and it looks like a good day out there. Temperatures remained warm last night and it was still +2c in the village at 10pm. It has however frozen overnight but temperatures are already at 0c at base and look set to push through into positive territory. There has been 6cm of new snow accumulation since the early hours of the morning. There is a mix of cloud and blue sky sitting over the resort and no wind at all. From this evening we are expecting a very significant snow front to come through. Fingers crossed for this one, and Sunday morning could be pretty amazing. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It is currently snowing lightly here in Furano this Monday morning. The flakes are very fine and not the usual fluffy stuff that we get, but the accumulation so far is a healthy 6cm in the village which will mean the slopes are going to be nice and powdery again. There is low cloud cover so expect some flat light on the mountain in places. The weather should stay approximately the same throughout the day. The snow is forecast to continue for the next 6 days with the heaviest falls being on Thursday night and Friday afternoon. An increase in wind is expected for Friday and Saturday, but nothing too major at the moment. There are quite a few course closures on the Kitanomine side at the moment, or coming up soon. These are for junior high school ski competitions, so it may be worth taking a break and to see how good these young athletes can ski the poles courses. It certainly inspires me to up my game! No sun forecast for the foreseeable future but hopefully that's wrong. No wind today. Night skiing attracted a few of us for the last day of 2015. It was excellent snow with some untouched deep powder just sitting there. Surprised me so close to the base of the resort but I'm not complaining. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Yes I would call that heavy snow. I often struggle between what is moderate snow and what is heavy snow. I think it’s because I have skied the last decade in Japan plus I grew up in Canada plus I had a season’s pass in Colorado one year, plus a few other snowy experiences over the years. So snow has to fall heavily against a ridiculous amount of criteria for me to consider it heavy. Completely subjective, of course! But for about the last 4 hours (my lunch break until now) it has been snowing heavily. At 7am it was -5C at the top and -3C at the base. The snow base was listed by the resort as 205cm. No wind as usual and there's no break in the snow forecast, which we mustn't grumble about. Hope it's wonderful where you are and you have until tomorrow to get to a shrine in the first 3 days of the new year to wish it in. Basically today it seems first timers are loving it and return or local skiers are finding it heavy or slow snow today. It was unusually warm last night, dropping today a bit but still only -3. It is snowing moderately now, has been snowing or flurries all day. The resort today is reporting 10-15cm of fresh today.
