The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here. I have to be early this morning but wanted to report on the strong blowing southerly winds that we have this morning. With the rain as well, it's not a nice morning, and I am guessing that lifts will have a problem opening today. As of time of writing, Okushiga Kogen have already said that it will not be operating. Others may well (probably) follow. Tomorrow should be clearer but possibly still windy. --------------------- Plans to be part open daily until 6th May: Kumanoyu Okushiga Kogen Yakebitaiyama Plans to be part open daily until mid-May: Yokoteyama Shibutoge Shiga Kogen Now 2025-2026 season Data as of Friday 1st May 2026 Total snowfall at base 680cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 69 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 50cm (on 25th January) November 2025 snowfall 43cm reported on 8 days December 2025 snowfall 161cm reported on 13 days January 2026 snowfall 337cm reported on 23 days February 2026 snowfall 97cm reported on 12 days March 2026 snowfall 32cm reported on 10 days April 2026 snowfall 10cm reported on 3 days May 2026 snowfall 0cm Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Shiga Kogen. Looks like upper areas like Yokoteyama might have even got several new cm. From tomorrow we'll be experiencing some warmer temps again. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here. Fine and sunny this morning and a warm day expected; but colder tomorrow. Takamagahara Mammoth ski area has announced that it won't be able to continue through the planned closing date of 6th May. Indeed, it won't be opening again this season, meaning that Sunday 19th April was the last day of the season. It seems very possible that we will get more similar announcements from other ski areas, but none just yet. Varying levels, but things are getting a bit patchy in some of the places that remain open. The section of the main Route 292 road connecting Shiga Kogen with Kusatsu in Gunma Prefecture opens this morning from 10am. --------------------- Plans to be open on weekends & holidays only until 6th May: Terakoya * 25th, 26th April and 29th April to 6th May Plans to be open daily until 6th May: Ichinose Family Kumanoyu Okushiga Kogen Yakebitaiyama (* closed 22nd April) Plans to be open daily until mid-May: Yokoteyama Shibutoge Shiga Kogen Now 2025-2026 season Data as of Wednesday 22nd April 2026 Total snowfall at base 680cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 69 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 50cm (on 25th January) November 2025 snowfall 43cm reported on 8 days December 2025 snowfall 161cm reported on 13 days January 2026 snowfall 337cm reported on 23 days February 2026 snowfall 97cm reported on 12 days March 2026 snowfall 32cm reported on 10 days April 2026 snowfall 10cm reported on 3 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Shiga Kogen. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here. Hello from Shiga Kogen on a mild spring morning. Some of the still-open (or weekend only open) runs are starting to show a few bare patches. The teams involved in patching them up will be busy today/tonight to make them as pleasing as possible for the weekend. Some ski areas around Japan that planned to be open until 6th May have already announced early closing (due to lack of snow). I'm guessing there is a chance we might also have some upcoming adjustments, but there's no word yet. And it'll depend on temps over the coming days and weeks. Fair weather is forecast across the weekend and Monday, too. --------------------- Plans to be open on weekends & holidays only until 6th May: Takamagahara Mammoth Terakoya * 18th, 19th, 25th, 26th April and 29th April to 6th May Plans to be open daily until 6th May: Ichinose Family Kumanoyu Okushiga Kogen Yakebitaiyama (* closed 8th, 15th and 22nd April) Plans to be open daily until mid-May: Yokoteyama Shibutoge Shiga Kogen Now 2025-2026 season Data as of Friday 17th April 2026 Total snowfall at base 680cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 69 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 50cm (on 25th January) November 2025 snowfall 43cm reported on 8 days December 2025 snowfall 161cm reported on 13 days January 2026 snowfall 337cm reported on 23 days February 2026 snowfall 97cm reported on 12 days March 2026 snowfall 32cm reported on 10 days April 2026 snowfall 10cm reported on 3 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Shiga Kogen. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here. The sun is out and following from yesterday we expect more bright and sunny weather today. At least until this afternoon. Snow cover is remaining pretty decent at open ski runs. Very spring conditions, of course, and more limited offerings now, but doing fairly well. How long ski areas can remain open will depend on how warm things get up here. Hopefully up here it won't rise much over 10C today at base. I read that temps actually reached 30C (in Shizuoka Prefecture) at the weekend. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 680cm Posted on Saturday 11th April 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here. Hello from Shiga Kogen. We had some rain yesterday and I don't think it was as windy as we were expecting. Early on this morning it was very cloudy but since then more blue sky has been appearing. Should be nice spring weather this weekend. We're expecting a fairly chilly few days, too - certainly compared to the heating up that some regions are currently expecting. There's much more green/brown around now than there was last week as the snow continues to retreat. It's going to be interesting to see how long ski areas can remain open this season. --------------------- Plans to be open on weekends & holidays only until 6th May: Takamagahara Mammoth Terakoya * 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, 25th, 26th April and 29th April to 6th May Plans to be open daily until 6th May: Ichinose Family Kumanoyu Okushiga Kogen Yakebitaiyama (* closed 8th, 15th and 22nd April) Plans to be open daily until mid-May: Yokoteyama Shibutoge Shiga Kogen Now 2025-2026 season Data as of Saturday 11th April 2026 Total snowfall at base 680cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 69 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 50cm (on 25th January) November 2025 snowfall 43cm reported on 8 days December 2025 snowfall 161cm reported on 13 days January 2026 snowfall 337cm reported on 23 days February 2026 snowfall 97cm reported on 12 days March 2026 snowfall 32cm reported on 10 days April 2026 snowfall 10cm reported on 3 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Shiga Kogen. After a weekend of less than friendly weather - including some snow and strong winds at times, with a helping of fog - it's clear skies and a fine spring morning today, featuring some very spring like warm temps. Still, it's a holiday. And a foggy start on the mountain. The Kokenashi runs are now closed... Yamabiko and Uenotaira (just about) still available.
