Much nicer than the rain yesterday, that's for sure. Still, with other ski resorts in other areas announcing that they can't quite remain open as long as they originally planned (of course, unrelated to Shiga Kogen), there is always the chance that we might well have similar news here too. We shall see. Temperatures are forecast to rise somewhat in the second half of the week and into the weekend with a run of sunny days also due. The section of Route 292 between Shiga Kogen and Kusatsu is still closed - planned re-opening is at 10am on Friday 20th April. Planned ski resort operations in Shiga Kogen. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . I couldn't wait... so a report this morning! FRESH SNOW! Yes, things are looking mid-winter once again this morning. Official reports of 5-10cm from around places and I can vouch for 6cm of that myself. And as we approach 9am the sun is out though light snow still falls - and everything is looking beautiful and clean white once again. Lovely. It's not deep of course but certainly the slopes should be enjoying a nice refresh too and worth checking out. There seems to be a chance of light snow on and off into tomorrow too. Anyway, there's a little snowfall to report to you this morning - just 2cm - and it is actually snowing right now as I write this here in the Hasuike area. But visibility is good and there's also a bit of sun shining through the clouds. So a mix of conditions this morning. We should be enjoying a return to proper mid-winter conditions early next week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's snow storm time in Shiga Kogen this morning. Heavy snow, blowing winds and limited visibility. Okushiga Kogen is reporting a whopping 50-60cm of fresh snowfall. I am measuring an average of 39cm from my three points. Strong winds are blowing it all around, so it is one of those days when measuring is... difficult. Information is limited early on but expect some disruption to the operation of some lifts. Check with the resorts if you plan on being out. I suspect many will be sitting it out and checking out an onsen, just like the monkeys. Expect more lifts and courses to be open from tomorrow, a sunny start and then snow later in the day and on Sunday. If the forecast is right, of course. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Brilliant. Well, stormy. It will be brilliant once this passes. Lots of wind blowing fine snow around here in Maruike this morning with a decent amount of fresh snow on the ground. I called a few friends around the area. One said 40cm, the other said 30cm. I'm measuring 38cm of fresh. Whatever number you choose to enjoy, it's a lot of fresh snow on the slopes around the region. The 9cm being reported by the official site seems... low. Anyway the snow should be continuing, perhaps easing off later on today. I would expect more lifts and courses opening for the weekend and will try to gather more information for my report tomorrow. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Brrrrr, it's really cold here this morning! A nice 8cm of fresh snow on the ground to report too. Things are clearing up and there's some sun shining down now. It's going to be a good day. The Okushiga Kogen area opens from today and they have their Number 2 and Number 3 lifts operating from the hotel base area. No other major changes as far as I can tell early this morning, apart from the quad at Takamagahara starting up for the season. So, a bit more opening up but still limited. And, but, some nice early season conditions to enjoy. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning! When I got up it was snowing lightly but as I'm typing this, it is actually coming down rather quickly. The Okushiga Kogen area of Shiga Kogen is planning on opening tomorrow - it looks like their lower pair lift is moving now but perhaps it's just 'training' for tomorrow. Still, great to see other areas opening up and I would expect (hope) to see a few more lifts operating and courses open tomorrow. It may well depend on how much snow we get over the next 24 hours. The snow clouds are expected to clear up tomorrow leaving us with generally fair weather over the weekend. And then decent snowfall is due from Monday. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. And it's a good one with a haul of around 14cm of fresh snowfall I am measuring on the ground since last night. As we approach 9am, I'm reminded of yesterday morning. There's a bit of sunshine here in Maruike, visibility is good... and very light snow is falling lazily from the skies. Varied conditions early on then, depending on which part of Shiga Kogen you find yourself in. We may have more today but clearer conditions are forecast for tomorrow before snow clouds making a welcome return on Friday. Monday looks very promising too with that lovely phrase 'heavy snow' on the forecast. We can perhaps expect some more course areas to open up this weekend, and the Okushiga Kogen resort is scheduled to be open from Saturday. As I write my report this morning from here in Hasuike, it's bright with good visibility over to Higashidateyama - but light snow is falling! An odd mix. There's a light sprinkling of snowfall around with a few cm on the ground in places since last night. Snow is there on the forecast, getting heavier tonight and regularly into the weekend too. Let's see how it turns out. Currently the following areas of Shiga Kogen are part open: - Ichinose Family - Takamagahara Mammoth - Yakebitaiyama - Kumanoyu - Yokoteyama None of the above resorts are 'linked up'/connected - we'll have to wait for more snow for that to happen. Okushiga Kogen plans to open from Saturday and hopefully if there is more snow before then... more courses and lifts at the other resorts.
