Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 32cm
Snowfall at base this season 136cm

Posted on Sunday 20th December 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

It's whiteout conditions at the moment in areas of Shiga Kogen.

A lot of snow and visibility is generally limited at best to very poor in some areas and wind is blowing it around. It's one of those times when it probably is best to sit and wait.

Kumanoyu are reporting 20cm of fresh snow this morning. Yakebitaiyama are reporting 40cm. (My friend who likes big numbers and gets overly-excited says 55-60cm. As always it depends on where you are, and it is windier than it has been but I have measured 32cm for this report.

We are forecast snow to continue through today but it does look like from tomorrow things will calm down and we will have a few days when there might be sunshine.

I am taking a few of the snow depths off this report for the moment as they are so clearly not updated over the last few days.
