Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 38cm Snowfall at base this season 83cm Posted on Thursday 17th December 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . I was reporting some modest numbers in the last few reports and mentioning that we weren't perhaps getting as much as other areas. That changes this morning as we have had some heavy snowfall since my last report. It feels really cold out there too. Yakebitaiyama are reporting 50cm of fresh. Kumanoyu are reporting 60cm of fresh snowfall (with an official snow depth of... 60cm). I can report 38cm, though there is definitely more than that on the ground in places. I was just over at Okushiga Kogen and it really is coming down over there. As always official snow depths are being, er, conservative even after considering grooming etc... so just look and quickly move on (is my suggestion). I am expecting more of Shiga Kogen to become open from the weekend. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning. Another layer of snow to add to what we got up to yesterday morning. Things are looking more like 'normal' now, even further down the valleys. It should be a great morning for people lucky enough to be here to enjoy it. There is a lot of fresh snow and it should be general post-weekend Monday quietness. Having said that, tomorrow is a national holiday so I suppose some people will have taken today off and have a long weekend... The sun is out too early this morning too. A real contrast to the much wilder conditions at the weekend. But wait... some more snow due overnight tonight. But wait (2)... it's going to get much milder in the second part of the week. Have fun! All areas and connections at Shiga Kogen are now open (with just a few minor exceptions). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 46cm Snowfall at base this season 293cm Posted on Sunday 9th February 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It is a good morning here in Shiga Kogen. Not if you want clear and sunny skies. But good if you want lots of fresh snowfall. It is another of those mornings where wind is blowing the snow around and it's difficult to put a number on the amount of fresh snow. Though in my trusted spot, there's 46cm. Kumanoyu are reporting 40cm of fresh snowfall.... It is still falling. It's good to see snow piling up in the base Yamanouchi town areas too. The only downer is that wind will probably be affecting some lifts this morning. If you are going out there I would check before heading out. And wrap up well. Pretty much all courses and connections at Shiga Kogen are now open (with just a few minor exceptions). The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. It feels like winter again. Snow is falling! Rain later yesterday turned into snow. The roads here in the Hasuike area are wet without a covering of snow, but there is some snow on the cars and resorts are reporting fresh snow on the courses - Kumanoyu are reporting 5cm of fresh snowfall. More of less depending on where you are. It is still snowing lightly and forecast to continue during the day today. Who'd have thought?! It shouldn't be lasting beyond today though with sun likely tomorrow and slightly warmer conditions. More lifts and areas opening from today for the Golden Week period which continues through until Monday 6th May. (A few lifts continuing beyond then). Surely this will be the last snow of the season (right?!) I'm going to enjoy watching it while I can.... Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 747cm Posted on Tuesday 7th May 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. Believe it or not, it has been snowing early morning! (Yes, today is 7th May!) It was rain, then it was snow. There is no covering or cm of snow to report down here in the Maruike area. Unconfirmed if there is anything more than a dusting on the upper areas of Yokoteyama that remain open, though it does look like there is at least a dusting at Kumanoyu from the webcam images. But... they are themselves not reporting any new cm. And it does feel like it is starting to clear up - as per forecast. Pretty cold though. And I am hearing that the stretch of Route 292 connecting us with Gunma Prefecture is closed this morning due to this weather. From today just the Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama areas of Shiga Kogen remain open for skiing and boarding. Note that separate lift tickets are now required at each of those. I have updated the info below with the information that I can currently find this morning. (I am battling to confirm some frustratingly conflicting information regarding lifts at Yokoteyama). So yes we are forecast clearer weather from this morning and probably mostly clearer skies and often sunshine through until the weekend. We will post another Shiga Kogen Now update before the weekend with the latest. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. After a warm/hot weekend with temperatures reaching around 20C even up here - and 30C+ down in the valleys - today is the last day of the ski season in Shiga Kogen. Shibutoge will be open today as soon as they have it ready and prepared. They are not being specific about a time, other than to say 'it may be before 1pm'. It seems like they are targeting that time to be the 'latest' and are hoping to be able to actually open earlier than that. There is also no official information on specific lift operations at the moment. But... whatever and whenever it opens, it will be free. So that's it folks! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Happy New Year. I'll admit it. I'm feeling rather groggy this morning. When you think about it, it's really not the best way to start a new year is it?! But, I had fun - I think - and I hope that you did too. And I wish you all the best for 2019. This morning the sun is out and is suitably dazzling my eyes. It is a nice, calm and cold morning here. As tempting as it all looks, I'm just not feeling up to it myself though. Though I'm sure when people get up and out this morning there will be a fair few people enjoying the conditions. More snowfall is due tonight. I plan to be fresh and ready to go tomorrow morning! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Hello and good morning from Shiga Kogen where... the ski season has started! As has, indeed, the snowboard season! :) So yes the news this morning is that Kumanoyu is reporting a snow depth of 20cm on the slopes (real snow + artificial snow) and they are operating their Number 2 pair lift. 600m of a 30-50m wide course area is open and they plan to be open daily from now on. Snow making machines will help out in that respect as long as temperatures remain low. We were thinking we might have more snow than we got overnight - just a few cm on the ground in places - but it's good to see everywhere white once again. It would be good if we could remain white but there isn't much snow on the forecast for the coming week beyond today. Other ski resorts will start opening (hopefully) from 1st December. It was interesting to see a bit of snow fall in some higher areas since my last report a few days ago, but today is absolutely the last day of the 2017-2018 season. Small parts of Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama/Shibutoge are the choices. And it should be a fine day too. 2017-2018 has been an interesting one for sure. I've enjoyed some excellent days out there, though the feeling that 'spring' started rather early is still in recent thoughts. Anyway, you can re-live the season by reading through all of the daily reports by using the links below. Previous seasons too of course. Shiga Kogen is a lovely place to be throughout the year, keeping cooler than down in the valleys. It's beautiful too of course, so I highly recommend a visit.
