We might get some more snow overnight though... Beyond tomorrow though, expect some calm and clearer weather over the weekend. Sounds like the weekend is going to see Japan generally warming up a fair bit. Good to see that it will be colder again beyond that next week. It should be a very fine morning. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. Please let me rewind one day. Looks like a sentence that I wrote for my report yesterday somehow didn't actually get posted for some reason (surely something I did!). Anyway, what I wrote was something along the lines of - we did not get rain, rather we got straight into snow and at times early afternoon it was coming down at some rate. Hope that makes sense. On to this morning.... Loads of snow!!! Snow is falling right now and there's a wind whipping it up just outside my window. A look round the webcams shows better visibility in places but it is generally variable. And the snow is mostly just light snow now. In terms of fresh snowfall numbers, Kumanoyu are reporting 50cm of snow. Yakebitaiyama are reporting 45cm. Some ski areas are actually even adjusting their official snow depth numbers this morning. (A bit). ;) So there should be some excellent deep snow out there this morning. From tomorrow forecast shows some sun and clearer skies. This morning both Kumanoyu and Yakebitaiyama are reporting 10cm of fresh snow. (Why do I report numbers from those ski areas? Because they report numbers. If I could find numbers from other areas around Shiga Kogen, I'd report them too). Snow due today, tonight (heaviest) and at least part of tomorrow too. Back to weekdays so there are a few changes with lifts being rested, including the Terakoya area. Sunshine is expected on Wednesday. Already turning into a lovely morning... with the bonus of a layer of snow on the ground. Not a huge amount. Yakebitaiyama report 5-10cm and Kumanoyu report 5cm. Those numbers seem a bit low with the snow that was falling. But the wind will very likely be a factor. Perhaps pockets of more to be found. It should be a good morning. Tomorrow should be fine and sunny too. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning. Not a whole lot of snow since the report yesterday and fine and sunny skies this morning... but it is quite windy. And while it is sunny now, probably by around lunchtime the clouds will be back and it should be snowing on us once again. So things might feel quite stormy later on today. It's not due to last too long though as there looks to be a good chance of clearer skies again tomorrow and Saturday. Hopefully calmer too. Let's hope we can get a good layer in today. Yakebitaiyama are reporting 5cm of fresh snowfall; Kumanoyu are reporting 10cm. I am measuring somewhere in the middle of that. Forecasts tell us to expect some clearer skies by evening and early tomorrow but more snow is lined up for later in the day tomorrow. And Yakebitaiyama are already reporting 5cm of snow on their slopes. So hopefully it will be building up and get lighter as it gets colder. Snow noted in this report is what we got since the last report (none overnight last night). Later on we are due a warm up. Lower in the valley is going to get rain, but fingers crossed we will be snowed on up here in Shiga Kogen. Terakoya area closed on weekdays at the moment along with a few other lifts here and there. Otherwise, places generally opening as planned this morning. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's whiteout conditions at the moment in areas of Shiga Kogen. A lot of snow and visibility is generally limited at best to very poor in some areas and wind is blowing it around. It's one of those times when it probably is best to sit and wait. Kumanoyu are reporting 20cm of fresh snow this morning. Yakebitaiyama are reporting 40cm. (My friend who likes big numbers and gets overly-excited says 55-60cm. As always it depends on where you are, and it is windier than it has been but I have measured 32cm for this report. We are forecast snow to continue through today but it does look like from tomorrow things will calm down and we will have a few days when there might be sunshine. I am taking a few of the snow depths off this report for the moment as they are so clearly not updated over the last few days. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. The peak of that snow event has moved on and we are just cloudy this morning. Quite bright actually. Okushiga Kogen is now part open and they have two lifts running this morning with an official snow depth of... 20cm (?). There's more than that, I am 100% sure! Most of Kumanoyu is now open with their Number 1 pair lift now operating. And Yakebitaiyama have their Number 2 gondola moving. Other than that, ski area operations appear to be the same. I expect more to be open from tomorrow, but can't find any confirmed information to share with you right now. It looks like we should be getting more snowfall from tonight and over the weekend. If you plan to be here, come prepared for snow and cold.
