The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Light snow falling this morning. There wasn't as much snow overnight as we were told to expect. Yakebitaiyama are reporting 5-10cm of fresh snow and Kumanoyu are reporting 5cm. There's a likelihood of clear skies over the weekend before more snow forecast for the night of 1st January. According to the official site this morning, the only ski area of Shiga Kogen that remains closed is Terakoya. You get to Terakoya via Ichinose Family or Higashidateyama, and they are both now open, so not sure what the deal is with Terakoya. I'll let you know if I find out anything... The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It looked like we might have missed out on the storm yesterday during the day, but it came in overnight and gave us more snow. This morning it is snowing and there is still a gusty wind blowing snow about. Certainly outside my place anyway! There's varying amounts of new snow as well - partly due to just where it has fallen and also the wind factor. But I'm guessing generally 10-20cm and perhaps more in places. The Sun Valley quad is up and running now. While the Shiga Kogen area is not yet fully open and fully connected, there's lots to play in now. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Can't see much out there, poor visibility. I can see that it is snowing, though, and coming down hard at times too. And being blowing around. It should be continuing through tomorrow. Maruike and Nishitateyama are both part open this morning, and also the Shiga Kogen Resort Gondola (which is classified as being part of the Giant area). Looks like a lift at Okushiga Kogen should also be open this morning. There may be a chance that some lifts are affected by the conditions this morning. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. A week has passed and there hasn't been much to report. A few days feeling terrible after an injection didn't help! Thankfully, I am feeling something like normal this morning. So anyway, there was a thin layer of snow yesterday morning but it didn't last long and it's a fine and sunny morning again this morning. Quite windy too... and mild. Kumanoyu is still on standby. There is snow on the upper areas with patchy snow and the ground showing at base. A small part of Yokoteyama is still open for people in need of early turns. I choose to be patient, though it looks like we are going to have to be patient for a while longer with not much snow lined up on immediate forecasts. From what I gather, lots of ski areas around Japan that planned to open this weekend are not able to due to a lack of snow. It's still November, so there is no need to panic! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Some light snow to report this morning giving everywhere a 'just about' white look, with maybe a few cm or more higher up. The road outside my place is already clear and dry, though, and it is just cloudy for the moment. It's fairly cold too, so various snow making machines are up early and working hard. Yokoteyama appears to be planning on re-opening from 1pm today. Kumanoyu are making snow this morning too and saying that they will open 'at the earliest' on Saturday. If things go well and subject to change, of course. Let's have some sunshine please! The Shibutoge lift plans to continue beyond that until 5th June. They sure like their long and late seasons at that area! This is my last report of the season. Yes, while the calendar says 30th April, yesterday night definitely didn't feel like it. and there has been snow. Kumanoyu are reporting 3cm. Roads are pretty clear of snow now with it just remaining on the sides but it sure looks nice to have some fresh white, even if it just a token bonus. You know what, though, we might get some more tomorrow when it rains at lower elevations. Clearer skies are forecast from Monday onwards. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The fine warm and sunny weather lasted until Wednesday. Temperatures have dropped somewhat since yesterday. It has been raining and some roads are looking damp but as I write this it isn't. There may be some light rain during the day and into tomorrow. We might even be treated to some light snow in some higher elevations. It's going to feel quite chilly again too. (A typhoon over to the east there is going to be affecting weather patterns beyond my comprehension). We can hope that the weather will settled down by later tomorrow and there's a chance of a sunny start to Sunday. Route 292 is the national road that goes through Shiga Kogen from Nakano city in the north to Kusatsu Town in Gunma Prefecture. The section of the road between close to Yokoteyama ski area (in Shiga Kogen) and Kusatsu is closed every year through the winter season. Last year it closed for the winter on 12th November. The road is going to be opening up again from Friday 22nd April. At 10am. Once that road is open, you can get to Shiga Kogen via Gunma Prefecture. It might be raining down in the valley - and it might have been raining up here too last night - but it is actually snowing here as of 9am. There's now nearly 2cm on my car. The snow is a bit wet, but it's snow all the same. And Kumanoyu are reporting 5cm of snowfall this morning. I am also hearing that there might be a fair bit more than that up at the higher Yokoteyama and Shibutoge. This is totally hearsay but even more than 20cm?!? I'll try and investigate and report on that tomorrow. I wonder if we might get some more cm during the day today? Would be good! Tomorrow will very probably be clearer and a bit warmer. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It has stopped now but we had some light snow falling earlier on this morning, and there's a thin layer of snow on the roads. Nice. Maybe a few cm in places. It might not be the last too, we'll have to see. Just cloudy skies now and it might brighten up later in the day, but keep pretty cold. For those of you visiting for the weekend, an early start tomorrow is recommended as it should be sunny from the start of the day and warm up (a bit) with the sun. Still, it feels like it is keeping relatively cold this year even as we enter the month of April.
