  • Nozawa Now: Thursday 8th December 2016

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 8cm Posted on Thursday 8th December 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . After the lovely weather that we ended up enjoying yesterday, it's a snowy morning in Nozawa and there is a bit more snow on the ground here in the village. Here's what the resort is reporting this morning - the official snow depth numbers top to bottom: Yamabiko: 35cm Uenotaira: 35cm Hikage: 7cm Nagasaka: 7cm Karasawa: 5cm We still need more, but it's looking like there might be some decent snow coming - particular at higher elevations - as we enter the weekend. Before that, today is also forecast to clear up later on and tomorrow will likely be slightly milder again. One thing that is probably a good idea to point out for those who are new to Nozawa... the resort usually opens just the upper areas first, ie. it doesn't wait until lower areas are skiable. So a bit more up top and we could be looking at opening soon. For the moment, no official news to report on that score. Update: PM Update: Good news! Nozawa Onsen will be open from tomorrow, Friday 9th. Just the Yamabiko D course and the Uenotaira course to start off with... more details in my report tomorrow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 1cm Posted on Wednesday 9th November 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello everyone and welcome back to the Nozawa Now reports for the 2016-2017 season. Everyone here is highly expectant - and simply just really, really hoping! - that this season will bring much more snow than last season. Which was something of an oddity. And this morning I bring news of the first snowfall down to the village. Just a bit on the ground but I have been able to make a little mini-snowman and can get the snowfall numbers off to a start. There's a saying in Nozawa (and indeed other regions) that once it snows three times up on the mountain, it gets snowing down in the village. And that is what has happened. A good start, indeed. Let's hope that is a good sign. It's cold too, but it will be getting colder over the coming week and we will see more sunshine. So no rush to get the skis or boards waxed up just yet. Hopefully Nozawa Onsen will be able to open on Saturday 26th November. • Nozawa Now: Friday 25th March 2016

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 22cm Snowfall at base this season 472cm Posted on Friday 25th March 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa and I have excellent news this morning folks! It has been snowing and we have received a 'mid-winter' like amount of snow as well with an impressive 35cm of fresh snow on the top Yamabiko runs and 30cm on the Uenotaira area I said 'mid-winter' like, I should also add 'Nozawa-like' as that is the kind of number we are often used to here. But anyway, I suspect there was a mini-race to the gondola to get up there this morning and I am certainly going to be going up myself to play in all that snow. This fresh snow over the last few days will certainly help freshen things up for the weekend as well, which is just... brilliant. It should be sunny tomorrow too. Can you tell I'm happy? From tomorrow there's more sun than snow on the forecasts, so could this latest delivery be the last significant snow of the season? There's a good chance. It does look like things will generally start warming up from this weekend and increase more as we get into next week. For now though, hope you can come to enjoy this fresh snow we have. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello from Nozawa and there's a bit more snow to report again this morning - the resort reporting 6-8cm on the top areas and a few cm down here as well. Great to hear (and later see!) some fresh snow up there, even better that there's some falling down here at base even if many of the lower runs here are now closed. And there might be some more to be had from these here snow clouds as the chance of snow is forecast through until tomorrow. After tomorrow expect more sunshine over the weekend and then things starting to warm up again early week. From today the Nagasaka Gondola connecting pair lift will be closed. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 447cm Posted on Tuesday 15th March 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa and there's some snow to report again. Up to 20cm of fresh snow on the upper Yamabiko runs since yesterday morning according to the resort (going to have to go check that out I think), with 10cm on Uenotaira and just a bit on lower areas (not the driest snow I have seen, but it is mid March!) Right now visibility looks limited on upper areas of the mountain especially but we can probably expect things to clear up later in the day with a chance of some sunshine later on even. Sun is forecast from tomorrow through Thursday and perhaps beyond, as well as increasing temperatures. Come Friday it should be getting rather warm, but beyond that it'll be cooling down again. Word of warming about Saturday - rain is on the forecasts for that day at the moment; as they are now, Sunday would look to be the better weekend choice. It's admittedly rather wet, but it's forecast to remain cold during the day today with more snow possible - especially higher up. Onegai shimasu. Tomorrow once the clouds clear a bit we might get some sunshine but hopefully it won't warm up too much. Warmer conditions seem unavoidable starting Wednesday... The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . After a clearer start earlier on, snow has started to fall this morning and it's really coming down now as I write this at 9am. Nozawa-like snowfall. (That's a very good thing). Visibility on the mountain this morning looks very poor and so conditions this morning are for those who like getting out in heavy snow conditions... not for everyone! I hope to bring you news of some large numbers tomorrow morning. Clearer skies likely Tuesday and Wednesday so they should be excellent days to be here. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa and it's keeping really cold at the moment. I have some decent snowfall to report this morning as well with the resort officially reporting 18-22cm of fresh snow across the mountain since yesterday morning; I have had to move around that amount from down here at base too. The only difference I can make out in resort operations for this morning is that the Jumping Course is now open. Untouched fresh snow and a decent steep, I like it. Snow is forecast for most of the day today and the skies are supposed to be clearing up by tonight. Tomorrow will probably bring clear skies and sunshine but hopefully it will keep cold. Mid-week it might get slightly milder but there's more snowfall on the way by the weekend.
