Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 35cm Snowfall at base this season 339cm Posted on Monday 12th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Loads of snow. Oh yes. It's a very good morning from here in Hakuba, with a good 35-40cm or so piled up outside my place this morning. Resorts around the valley are reporting nice deep fresh layers of snow as well. I've added the numbers where available by the notes for each resort below. Special mention to that 60cm recorded by Hakuba Cortina. No doubt there's more than a few excited folk experiencing that powder right now as I sit here typing this. I'd prefer to be sat here, of course! ;) Happo-one clocking in 50cm at Usagidaira. Kashiyamari reporting 50cm. 40cm at Goryu. They're all good numbers this morning. Must admit, I wasn't expecting them but I'm certainly not complaining as we should be back to full on conditions this morning. Poor visibility in places as well. Unfortunately stronger winds on mountain are affecting some lifts and I've also added that to the notes below. It goes without saying, that situation may (hopefully) change of course during the day. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 349cm Posted on Saturday 17th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . I'm happy to report snow started falling overnight in Hakuba. The day yesterday ended up with some sun and blue sky to enjoy amongst the remaining clouds. This morning there's a good 10cm on the ground around village areas, and resorts reporting more (as noted below). A bit heavy perhaps but forecasts tell us to expect temperatures to actually drop as the day progresses today and so I expect some fine snow to be falling up there during the day and tonight. Snowing now and generally poor visibility on the slopes as well as a moderate to strong northerly wind. For the moment I can only see that the top part of the Gondola at Tsugaike Kogen and the top lifts there are stopped due to the weather conditions. Some course areas at Hakuba Cortina and Iwatake closed due to avalanche danger and checking going on over there. All other areas seem to be open as normal. The snow is forecast to stop sometime around tomorrow morning and local forecasts are predicting a quick clear up and maybe even some sun again. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 369cm Posted on Sunday 18th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Lots of fresh snow over the last day or so here in Hakuba. As you can see from the reports coming in from around the different resorts around the valley, differing numbers being reported but the general headline is decent fresh snow out on the mountains this morning. Snow and limited visibility for most of the day yesterday, and poor weather conditions actually made Kashimayari (where I was) cancel their nighta. But I think for many it would have been a great day in the snow with some very fine conditions. A different look this morning with lots of blue sky above Hakuba and the sun shining down on us. There's still a big bank of cloud covering the mountain backdrop from view, but blue skies above that. Some strong winds are present on mountain this morning though and there is some lift disruption at Happo-one and Hakuba Goryu with the top lifts at both resorts on hold as of 9am. Let's hope they can get those open soon so people can enjoy those top areas. More snowfall due tomorrow afternoon to be followed by a few days of clearer skies again according to the latest local forecast. Chance of temperatures rising slightly around Wednesday, we'll look at that situation again nearer the time. Doesn't look like it should warm up too much though. Lots of fresh snow to have fun in this morning. Take care, hope you can get to enjoy it. --- Official snow depth numbers and operations at time of writing on Sunday 18th January 2015. Subject to change during the day: Hakuba Goryu: Reporting 25cm of new snowfall at Alps Daira and 15cm at Toomi area. Top Alps Daira lifts not open early on due to strong wind conditions. All courses open except Panorama and Adventure Course. - Alps Daira - 310cm - Toomi - 165cm - Iimori - 160cm --- Hakuba 47: Reporting 25cm of snowfall during the day yesterday by Line C at 3pm. Reporting another 20cm since last night. That's a lot of snow over the last 24 hours or so. Tree Riding Zone is open. - Upper - 310cm - Lower - 180cm --- Happo-one: Reporting 15cm of fresh snowfall at Usagidaira this morning and another 10cm at base. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Yesterday turned into a real beauty. By mid morning the remaining clouds over the mountains had all but disappeared leaving us with fantastic scenery, fine blue skies and lots of sunshine. A really beautiful early evening as well. Stunning. Not much can be seen this morning though, as the snow is back and it's coming down pretty good up on the mountains looking at the webcams just now. Limited visibility. Only up to a few cm or so at most to report from around the ski-jo so far, but it should be snowing for the day and so I expect to bring news of fresh cm tomorrow morning. Feels like a moderate north easterly wind, but all resorts appear to be planning on opening as normal. Hopefully that will be the case. Back to clearer skies tomorrow and Wednesday maybe before a return to snowfall on Thursday. --- Someone has asked why the Adventure Course at Hakuba Goryu seems to never open. Just spoken with someone over at the resort about that to get an official word - it might open but they don't feel it's the conditions to open it right now... safety concerns by the sounds of things. --- Official snow depth numbers and operations at time of writing on Monday 19th January 2015. The webcams from around the resorts almost all show... well, not much actually! The mountains are covered in cloud. Top lifts at Happo-one are going to be delayed but the weather conditions are forecast to improve and it might even get to be sunny later on in the day. • Hakuba Now: Sunday 25th January 2015

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 390cm Posted on Sunday 25th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba and it's a fairly mild and cloudy start to the day. Yesterday was a real beauty. Deep blue skies, bright sunshine and just a bit of cloud here and there for most of the day. It eventually got cloudy with them covering the mountains late afternoon and we have had some snowfall overnight. Resorts around the valley are reporting up to 10cm of snowfall - as noted in the areas below where that information is available - and there's up to 5cm on the ground here at base this morning as it eases off. Back to this morning and cloud hanging around and the last of some light snow lazily falling early on. A few areas of blue sky are already showing through from behind clouds and we're basically expecting a fine day here again with more sunshine today. Looking ahead, tomorrow's forecast is for warmer temperatures - rising up to around 6 degrees - with the chance of rain going into Tuesday. With temps dropping it should be turning into snow; straight into snow on upper slopes. I'll let you know how that goes. In the meantime, should be a fine day today. • Hakuba Now: Saturday 31st January 2015

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 402cm Posted on Saturday 31st January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba and I think it's definitely a good one with some decent fresh snow to report from around the mountains. As you can see noted below, up to around 30cm in places on the slopes with around 10cm or so down here at base village level. :) Yesterday the snow we got falling on mountain was more of the heavier kind - this morning it looks drier and lighter, and I'm looking forward to getting up there to enjoy it once I share this info with you. Hopefully the wind that is currently affecting some upper lifts around the valley will ease off and let them get going. As I write this some lifts at Happo-one, 47 and Goryu are on hold. Cortina and Tsugaike both are limited this morning as well due to weather and/or avalanche risk. One of those days when it is best to check with the resort you plan to go to before heading out as conditions may well change. The forecast is for snow, moderate winds and poor visibility today and into tomorrow, a decent chance of clearer and calmer conditions tomorrow. Take care out there. --- Official snow depth numbers and operations at time of writing on Saturday 31st January 2015. Subject to change during the day: Hakuba Goryu: Reporting 20cm of new snowfall at Alps Daira, 5cm at Toomi and 10cm at Iimori. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . After another very fine day yesterday weather-wise, we have some fresh snow this morning from overnight. The snowfall will probably be easing off this morning and even now from the village we can see some blue sky so maybe it will clear up nicely during the daytime. Not so cold overnight last night and at 9am this morning it is around -1C. So yes a bit of fresh snowfall this morning. Different resorts reporting varying amounts of snow this morning and I have noted them all down as far as I can find below. Ranging from a mistaken 0cm (I think) to up to 20cm at Cortina, fresh will vary where you choose this morning I think. Would like to report deeper numbers, so when can we expect them? Looking like it might be Sunday when decent snowfall starts and it's expected to be snowing well into the week next week. Some good numbers probable/likely/hopefully! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It was snowing yesterday - quite heavily at times - until late afternoon, with those windy conditions continuing. I was up at Goryu mid-afternoon - the snow was really coming down and at times nearly total whiteout conditions. Some more snowfall overnight and it's a cold morning with snow still falling in places but as I write this now it has eased off - I can even see some blue sky up there and is that some sun shining through in places. It may well be. Strong morning winds affecting some top lifts again this morning around the resorts, fingers crossed that situation will improve to allow them to open. We aren't expecting much snow today and over the next few days the forecast is generally for a mix of cloud, sun and light snow showers from time to time.
