Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 121cm Posted on Sunday 31st December 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning to you all from Hakuba. Not the most exciting start to New Years Eve with some light rain around lower areas, but perhaps some light snow at higher elevations (it's what Hakuba 47 seems to be saying). Webcams don't seem to show that. We ARE expecting snow overnight tonight and so I am cautiously excited about the prospect of starting 2024 with fresh snowfall. Let us hope we are not let down! So, have a fun New Years Eve and see you tomorrow. -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Operations (scheduled): Most lifts and runs are now open Official snow depth: Upper: 135cm Toomi: 50cm ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park Operations (scheduled): All scheduled lifts and runs are open (The Line D lift usually only opens when the Gondola is not operating) Tree Riding Zones will open at a later date New snowfall (overnight as reported by ski area): Top: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth: Upper: 140cm Base: 40cm ------------ Hakuba Happo-one Operations (scheduled): Most lifts operating and a large part of the ski area is now open, but with restrictions The top Grat quad lift is now operating but only for sightseeing and backcountry (the Riesen Grat run is not yet available) New snowfall (reported by ski area): Kurobishi: 0cm Usagidaira: 0cm Top of Alpen quad: 0cm Official snow depth: Kurobushi (1680m): 120cm Usagidaira (1400m): 77cm Nakiyama (800m): 35cm ------------ Hakuba Cortina Official snow depth: Upper: 88cm Base: 48cm ------------ Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Operations (scheduled): 5 lifts and 4 courses Official snow depth: Mountain Side: 90cm Village Side: 50cm ------------ Hakuba Norikura Onsen Operations (scheduled): 6 lifts and 6 courses Official snow depth: 45cm ------------ Tsugaike Mountain Resort Operations: 9 lifts Official snow depth: Upper: 108cm Base: 8cm Hakuba Now 2023-2024 season Data as Sunday 31st December 2023 Total snowfall at base so far 121cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 17 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 26cm (23rd December) November 2023 snowfall 28cm reported on 4 days December 2023 snowfall 93cm reported on 13 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 121cm Posted on Wednesday 27th December 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . A fine day yesterday, if a bit windy. A little snow overnight (which has gone now), and no specific snowfall numbers is being reported by the ski areas this morning. It is a mostly cloudy morning. I can see some blue sky away from the mountains too as the fast moving clouds do their thing. Light snow is falling in higher areas too, along with limited visibility on the mountain. It is +1C in the village as 9am approaches. Looking ahead, we have to be prepared for clearer skies and fairly mild conditions over the last few days of the year. Maybe New Years Eve will bring us some fresh snow. That would certainly be a good way to end the year... -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Operations (scheduled): Most lifts and runs are now open Official snow depth: Upper: 150cm Toomi: 65cm ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park Operations (scheduled): All scheduled lifts and runs are open (The Line D lift usually only opens when the Gondola is not operating) Tree Riding Zones will open at a later date New snowfall (overnight as reported by ski area): Top: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth: Upper: 150cm Base: 45cm ------------ Hakuba Happo-one Operations (scheduled): 10 lifts operating A large part of the ski area is now open, but with restrictions You can now ski back down to the base areas The top Riesen Grat run is not yet available New snowfall (reported by ski area): Kurobishi: 0cm Usagidaira: 0cm Top of Alpen quad: 0cm Official snow depth: Kurobushi (1680m): 130cm Usagidaira (1400m): 88cm Nakiyama (800m): -cm ------------ Hakuba Cortina Operations (scheduled): 3 lifts and 9 courses Official snow depth: 115cm ------------ Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Operations (scheduled): 4 lifts and 3 courses Official snow depth: Mountain Side: 90cm Village Side: 50cm ------------ Hakuba Norikura Onsen Operations (scheduled): 6 lifts and 8 courses Official snow depth: 55cm ------------ Tsugaike Mountain Resort Operations: 9 lifts Official snow depth: Upper: 130cm Base: 15cm Hakuba Now 2023-2024 season Data as Wednesday 27th December 2023 Total snowfall at base so far 121cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 17 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 26cm (23rd December) November 2023 snowfall 28cm reported on 4 days December 2023 snowfall 93cm reported on 13 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 13cm Snowfall at base this season 119cm Posted on Tuesday 26th December 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It has to be a quick and early report this morning, meaning some of the usual data might not have been updated yet (my fault), so I'll leave it off the report today. A nice new layer of 10-15cm fresh snow around base areas, surely more than that at higher elevations (Happo reporting 25cm at the top of the gondola) and some early morning sunshine. While we have quite a lot of cloud around early morning, there's increasingly blue sky and sun too. It feels like it is going to be a very fine and sunny day. And I hope you have a good one. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 106cm Posted on Monday 25th December 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Seasons greetings to all! There has been lots of cloud early this morning as some overnight snow eased off. Happo-one is reporting up to 15cm of fresh snow at the top of the Alpen quad lift. There is some sun coming through my window as I write this and blue sky in some directions too. Night skiing is scheduled to start at Goryu from tomorrow. Side note: Happo-one currently has this on its English 'trail conditions' page: "The snow is melting on the trails! Hakuba Happo-one is now open for the summer season!", along with a whole lot of green season info posted in June. I mention this just as one example of how difficult it sometimes is to collect (and be sure of) the information that ski areas themselves put out there. As someone who is checking such info every morning and trying to be as correct as possible in this report, it seems really crazy that these very popular ski areas don't seem to put more importance on these things. (One some days, it really does makes me wonder why I put the effort in... then I remember, I love doing it, frustrations aside!) Anyway, Happy and indeed Merry Christmas! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 101cm Posted on Sunday 24th December 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Just a little snow down at base since my report yesterday, with some ski areas talking up to 5-10cm of fresh during the day in upper areas. On this cold Christmas Eve morning we have quite a lot of blue sky, some sun and some cloud. It's a very fine morning. I believe all the ski areas in the region are now at least part open with more runs and lifts gradually become available. The many people here at the moment will be thankful for that, though we still need more of the good stuff to get everywhere opening up. Lots of fun to be had, though, and some big queues for the early morning lifts. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . More snow! I feel the snowfall being reported by ski areas this morning seems curiously on the low side. My measured number beats them, yey. It's probably enough for more lifts and runs to open this weekend, and we can expect such adjustments imminently. Right now it's cloudy with light snow still falling in places, but I can see the fuzzy shape of the sun from behind the clouds too. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning to you from Hakuba. We have had more snow. :) Ski areas are reporting 10-20cm (and more) on the mountain and I have another 15cm or so to add since my last report. It is still snowing and visibility is suitably limited. Doesn't seem too windy, but it feels cold. The Hakuba Cortina and Hakuba Norikura ski areas are both part open this morning and have been added to the (daily updated) list below. Snowfall is forecast for the day and tonight, so hopefully we'll get some more good numbers by tomorrow. That will surely help more lifts and terrain to open. (By the way, I do intend to start reporting the "accumulative snowfall" data for ski areas this season, using official info from Hakuba Valley. Ski areas around the valley are reporting around up to 10cm of fresh snow in upper areas overnight after snowfall during the day yesterday. There should be some good fun to have up there this morning, if not a little windy. There's just a little new snow down by base areas since yesterday, a few cm or so. - Hakuba Now: Sunday 17th December 2023
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 43cm Posted on Sunday 17th December 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . OK, the snow has started! Just a few cm or so around base areas and a bit more already at higher elevations. Hakuba Happo-one is reporting 15cm of snowfall at Kurobishi (1680m) and 10cm at the top of the Alpen quad lift. What exactly is open at Happo-one is a bit unclear as I write this. Hakuba 47 are reporting 10cm of snow on upper areas, but only the upper area of R-8 is open. The gondola at 47 is not open, so you need to get there via the gondola at Hakuba Goryu. Please note that what is open might differ from the listings below as ski areas make early morning decisions (and perhaps change their minds too). Some days the situation can be complicated (and difficult to confirm), but I'm going to try my best to bring you as much info as possible each morning. That might mean they might be posted a bit later than usual over the coming week or so. -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Part open Lifts: Telecabin gondola Alps Number 1 pair Alps Number 3 pair Courses: Panorama Grand Prix (*checking) Technical (*checking) Super (*checking) Official snow depth: Upper: 55cm Toomi: - Notes: Take the gondola up to (and down from) the top ski runs that are open ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park Part open Ski lifts: Line E Courses: R-8 upper only open New snowfall (reported by ski area): Top: 10cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth: Upper: 55cm Base: 0cm Notes: The base area at Hakuba 47 is not open, so you need to take the gondola at Hakuba Goryu ------------ Hakuba Happo-one Part open Ski lifts: Adam Gondola Alpen quad Kurobishi Number 2 quad Courses: Usagidaira Kurobishi New snowfall (reported by ski area): Kurobishi: 15cm Top of Alpen quad: 10cm Official snow depth: Kurobushi (1680m): 55cm Usagidaira (1400m): 35cm Nakiyama (800m): -cm Notes: Take the gondola up to (and down from) the Panorama ski run that is open ------------ Tsugaike Mountain Resort Part open Ski lifts: Eve Gondola Han-no-ki pair lift Courses: Han-no-ki Official snow depth: Upper: 50cm Base: 0cm Notes: Take the gondola up to (and down from) the ski run that is open Hakuba Now 2023-2024 season Data as Sunday 17th December 2023 Total snowfall at base so far 43cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 9 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 15cm (19th November) November 2023 snowfall 28cm reported on 4 days December 2023 snowfall 15cm reported on 5 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. - Hakuba Now: Friday 8th December 2023
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 40cm Posted on Friday 8th December 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Yesterday we got some windy conditions on the mountain and a bit of snow too. Hakuba 47 was reporting 5cm yesterday afternoon and Tsugaike Kogen is reporting up to 10cm of fresh snow on upper areas this morning. No numbers to report from Happo-one. I had to do a bit of walking around the village yesterday afternoon and got rained on. This morning clouds have cleared again and it's a blue sky start. Today and tomorrow should be fine, though warmer than we would like - particularly tomorrow. The next snowfall looks due around the middle of the coming week. Good news from Hakuba Happo-one this morning - it's Alpen quad lift and Kurobishi Number 2 quad lift are scheduled to be moving, with the Usagidaira and Kurobishi runs due to be available. Jigatake ski area, one of the 'Hakuba Valley' ski areas just to the south of Hakuba, is also going for a 'pre-open' today. That is earlier than their original planned opening date, which is always nice to see. A lift ticket today is just 500 yen (2,000 yen from tomorrow). There's machine-produced snow is involved. -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Part open Lifts: Telecabin gondola Alps Number 1 pair Alps Number 3 pair Courses: Panorama Grand Prix Technical Super Official snow depth: Upper: 80cm Toomi: - Notes: Take the gondola up to (and down from) the top ski runs that are open ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park Large part open Ski lifts: All lifts (* Line D usually only opens when the Gondola is not operating) Courses: Most main courses except mid to lower R-1 and R-7 Tree Riding Zones will open at a later date New snowfall (reported by ski area): Top: 5cm (yesterday afternoon) Base: 0cm Official snow depth: Upper: 90cm Base: 15cm Notes: A large part of Hakuba 47 is open, but runs down to base are not open yet (so you need to take the gondola down) ------------ Hakuba Happo-one Part open Ski lifts: Adam Gondola Alpen quad Kurobishi Number 2 quad Panorama pair Kokusai Number 3 pair Courses: Panorama Usagidaira Kurobishi New snowfall (reported by ski area): Top of gondola: 0cm Official snow depth: Kurobushi (1680m): -cm Usagidaira (1400m): 88cm Nakiyama (800m): -cm Notes: Take the gondola up to (and down from) the Panorama ski run that is open ------------ Tsugaike Mountain Resort Part open Ski lifts: Eve Gondola Han-no-ki pair lift Tsuga Number 2 pair Courses: Han-no-ki Official snow depth: Upper: 95cm Base: 6cm Notes: Take the gondola up to (and down from) the ski run that is open Hakuba Now 2023-2024 season Data as Friday 8th December 2023 Total snowfall at base so far 40cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 8 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 15cm (19th November) November 2023 snowfall 28cm reported on 4 days December 2023 snowfall 12cm reported on 4 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba.
