The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday was a bit of a wild day out there with strong - and often very noisy winds - along with the snowfall and cold conditions. No doubt more than a few people decided to make it an onsen day and hope that today would be better weather-wise. And better it is. The sun is out and we have some blue sky above. The forecast has snow clouds lingering this morning but they seem to have mostly moved on and clearer skies are going to prevail. For the next few days as well by the looks. It is a cold start to the day today but milder conditions are due over the weekend (when we might even get some rain, but we'll try not to think about that just now). With the snowfall of the last few days though, we have enough snow for places to be either close to or completely open. The link up between the Yuzawa Kogen, Gala Yuzawa and Ishiuchi Maruyama resorts is now also open. It should be very fine out there today. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Morning from Yuzawa. Fresh snow! Not a huge amount for sure, but good to see snow falling once again this morning. Very light snow was falling in Yuzawa from time to time in the day yesterday, then more snow started falling last night. Woke to a few cm of snow on the ground this morning and light snow falling. It has been like that since this morning and not much new on the ground but it does seem to be snowing more in the last half hour or so, and the local Niigata forecast tells us to expect 10cm or so before 4pm today. Snow hopefully coming down the rest of the day and into tomorrow morning. Milder conditions looking likely for Saturday and possibly clearer skies to start with but some snow later on. Nothing major though. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good news this morning with a lot of snowfall to report. Perhaps around 20cm on average around town areas and more on the mountains with resorts reporting between 30cm and up to 50cm (Kagura) of new snowfall. It is a cold start to the day as well, and likely won't warm up much either. -5C. Moderate to strong winds are causing a few problems for a few resorts. At the time of writing the Tashiro part of Kagura is closed and that resort only open from the Mitsumata Ropeway to the Kagura No1 pair lift. The top areas of Naeba and their gondolas are closed as well. Yuzawa Kogen seemed to open a bit late as well and we can expect some lifts to be moving at slower than usual because of the wind. The snow is still coming down good and might well continue into tomorrow. But some local forecasts have conditions clearing and calming down by tomorrow morning and it possibly turning into a fine day. Monday onwards we are looking at a run of days when snow is likely. Fine conditions out there this morning, hope you can enjoy them. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We had rain later in the day yesterday but overnight it turned into snow and there was a thin coating of snow in Yuzawa this morning. Resorts around town have reporting mostly around 5cm but up to 10cm of fresh snowfall since yesterday. It has actually continued snowing at town level on and off for the morning though it's not really adding more in terms of cm. Fairly poor visibility at resorts around town at the moment. It was actually quite sunny down in the Naeba and Kagura areas with a fair bit of blue sky on show as well, though seems that it has clouded over there too. The snow is forecast to ease off and leave us with a cloudy day and not warm up too much. Tomorrow should start off sunny and it will get warmer once again and aside from rain on Thursday the coming week looks mostly cloud/sun. OK, so it's that time of the year to report planned resort closing dates. Here's what we have so far confirmed, will add to this as we get more info... The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It is a cloudy but bright morning in Yuzawa after another very mild (warm?) evening when temperatures didn't drop much under 10 degrees. It's around 13 degrees now here in town, though that is actually forecast to be the highest for the day as it should be clouding over soon and rain likely. Unfortunately that rain might well continue into tomorrow. Clearer conditions probable on Sunday. The 'Golden Week' period of holidays begins tomorrow. Basically we have a 3 day weekend coming up with Monday as a national holiday. Then the weekend after it's a 4 day weekend from Friday through Monday. That Monday (6th) marks the end of the season for all resorts in the area apart from the Kagura area, via the Mitsumata Ropeway. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. This last week we have experienced a real heat up in Yuzawa... for a few days there it looked like it might be hotting up to close on 30 degrees! Not quite, but it sure was hot out there. Yesterday wasn't as hot and after an almost chilly overnight, today we are likely to see a temperature rised to around 24 degrees in town. Kagura, the resort remaining open, is looking at a high of around 14 degrees. Lovely blue skies this morning and it should be fine all day. Sun again tomorrow, perhaps with more cloud. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We have enjoyed some fine weather conditions over the last week or so. Lots of sun and blue skies to enjoy and not too hot just yet. This morning the sun is out again and a comfortable high of around 23 degrees is forecast. Three more days left at Kagura before the ski season shuts down for good in this region. The following courses remain open: - Kagura main course - Technical course - Giant course - Gondola course The snow in the Mitsumata area is now just a narrow strip that is acting as a way to get back down to the Ropeway, essentially a connecting course. It's great that they can keep it open though right up until the end (hopefully), rather than have to shuttle people up to Kagura on a bus. Looks like it should be more fine conditions through until the end of the weekend as well. Last chance! The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We have had more clear and sunny weather over the last few days in Yuzawa, and it has been getting hotter too. Up to 28 degrees in Yuzawa yesterday and it felt more humid as well. The more humid conditions are definitely just round the corner now. It is hopefully a while off the worst season of them all (for me anyway).... the rainy season. Hopefully we can enjoy lots of clear days before that lot sets in. Of course, yesterday was the last day of the season for the Kagura resort and so now there are no ski resorts open in the region. So you can say that the 12/13 season is now officially over! The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We continue to have more rain than normal this autumn. After a lovely day yesterday, it has been wet and nasty today out there. Not that cold though with temps into double figures. Yesterday was probably the peak of the beautiful autumn colours at town level, as it looks like a more winter like weather pattern is taking over this next week. Lots of rain forecast but... wait for it... a chance of snow falling lower down the mountains as well, perhaps even down to town level. I'll let you know if and when that happens! The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was snowing later on in the evening when I last looked outside and this morning there was about 5cm of snow on the top of the car... with light snow still falling. This morning it has been somewhat on and off - with the sun making some brief appearances - and for the moment it is just cloudy. Snow is likely to fall on and off for the day though and it does look like higher up on the slopes some snow is falling right now. It is a chilly +1 degrees in town. Great to see the first snowfall of the season in town. Tomorrow might be slightly milder with a chance of sleet/snow continuing but it does look like it will warm up a fair bit from Thursday through the weekend. Kagura is of course the first resort planning to open for the season - on 23rd November. I'll be posting the other planned resort opening dates within the next few days. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. As you might have read on the Naeba Now report page, this Yuzawa Now report page will be taking on the Naeba and Kagura news this season. While we have always given mention to Kagura and Naeba on Yuzawa Now, we'll be giving those areas more coverage now. After all, they are in the same town. Anyway, you want to know about the snow?! Well, a sprinkling over at Naeba and some more snowfall up on the slopes of Kagura overnight but at the moment the sun is out over Yuzawa. We did and still do actually have cloud and rain forecast for the day, so perhaps it will quickly cloud over again and that is what we will get. For now though a nice morning in Yuzawa and no snow on the ground in town. The snow season starts on Saturday though. That's for certain, as Kagura have announced it on their website. Saturday 23rd will be the first official day of the season in Yuzawa. As things stand, there will be 1500m of the main Kagura run open. The Mitsumata Ropeway will take eager sliders up and the Kagura Gondola will take people to the base of the Kagura area. The initial plan is for the Kagura No1 quad and the Kagura No1 pair lift to be open on weekends and just the quad on weekdays. A shuttle bus is planned to be operating from Mitsumata to the Kagura Gondola. Expect this situation to change them get rid of the bus as soon as is possible. (There was even rumour of a possible 'no bus' right from the beginning last week, but I haven't heard any more of that since and perhaps the milder conditions have put a stop to that). I also have news about Kandatsu Kogen to relay this morning. After the meeting in Yuzawa on Tuesday, it turns out that the Kandatsu Kogen resort will not be opening this season. It's quite big news in Yuzawa as you might expect as Kandatsu was one of the popular resorts, but unfortunately we're not going to be able to slide down the slopes there this time round. The company now in charge of the resort though seems to be confident looking forward to next (ie. 14/15) season and so I think there is probably a good chance that Kandatsu will be back next season. Please note that is a personal guess. Hope you stick around.
