- Shiga Kogen Now: Saturday 27th December 2025
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 46cm Snowfall at base this season 203cm Posted on Saturday 27th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. The sun is out! Some lovely light snowfall yesterday being blown around by strong winds. Yakebitaiyama has been reporting a whopping 80cm of fresh snow since yesterday. Kumanoyu is reporting a more modest 20-30cm. Wind was a factor and so there's places where it's piled up much more than others, but my largely sheltered measuring point has 46cm since yesterday. A good amount of snow, whichever number you look at. Extracting exact information can be a challenge, but as far as I can tell from official sources, the only ski area not yet open is Tannenomori Okoji. All connections are still not fully open yet, but we're getting there. And there's some very nice conditions to enjoy. (Ignore the silly official snow depth numbers that have either stayed the same or decreased (!) this morning). Next significant snow due Wednesday. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 261cm Posted on Saturday 27th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Properly cold today, with a nice bite in the air. Despite the "Severe Snow Warning" issued yesterday afternoon, we ended up with only 2 cm at the base, and 5 cm on top. Someone clearly has not paid their bill to Mother Nature. - Nozawa Now: Saturday 27th December 2025
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 50cm Snowfall at base this season 147cm Posted on Saturday 27th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . I have very good news this morning. Yesterday really delivered with Nozawa-like snowfall and looking at the JMA maps it appears that this region got the most of the lot. At 3pm the ski area was reporting this much snow since morning: Yamabiko: 60cm Uenotaira: 50cm Hikage: 40cm Nagasaka: 40cm Karasawa: 40cm And this morning they are reporting an additional: Yamabiko: 35cm Uenotaira: 50cm Hikage: not reporting yet Nagasaka: not reporting yet Karasawa: not reporting yet They seem to be reporting up to 1m of snow up top. Totals below. Since my report yesterday, I have measured a cool 50cm. Excellent. Things can change quickly, and they sure have! And we have a bit of sunshine early on this morning. It should be a great morning for people heading up the mountain this morning. From what I can tell early on, more of the mountain is going to be open this morning, but the actual situation is a little unclear. (I'm seeing conflicting info early on). But bottom line, it's a very good morning. ----------------------------- Fresh snowfall since yesterday afternoon (reported by the ski area): Yamabiko: 95cm Uenotaira: 100cm Hikage: - Nagasaka: - Karasawa: - Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area): Yamabiko: 150cm Uenotaira: 110cm Hikage: - Nagasaka: - Karasawa: - Scheduled lift operations: Details to be updated tomorrow Scheduled courses available: Details to be updated tomorrow Information on the ski area: Nozawa Onsen Nozawa Now 2025-2026 season Data as of Saturday 27th December 2025 Total snowfall at base 147cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 11 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 50cm (on 27th December) November 2025 snowfall 15cm reported on 1 day December 2025 snowfall 132cm reported on 10 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Nozawa Onsen. It was a bit heavy (moisture) when it started early on but nice and light snow now coming down as it gets colder. 5cm now but there will be more, hopefully a fair bit more, to report tomorrow. Wind is a bit of a problem this morning and disrupting some lifts but it is the price we must pay for the snow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 80cm Posted on Friday 26th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Hello everyone. I am extremely happy to be able to report some good snowfall this morning, with more due for the whole day. As I write this, it is coming down really nicely. Just how we love it. Earlier on Goryu was reporting 5cm and 47 was reporting 10cm. But it has been piling up more since then. Happo-one is reporting 25cm at Kurobishi and 5cm at Usagidaira. I think the early morning ongoing snowfall and different timings of those postings -- as well as strong wind blowing the snow around -- is making those inconsistencies inevitable. I have measured 15cm at 8:40am. Let's just say it's snowing, we have a good new layer and this is good. Wind might is also affecting various lifts this morning, so for folks who are here it is worth checking with official sources before heading out. Some of the data below might be out of date with this changeable situation. I'll be sure to carefully update once this storm passes and things calm down. This snowfall will probably ease off by tomorrow morning. I'd prefer we have 3-4 days of solid snowfall to really get pumping, but we'll take todays weather for now! Thank you. Images this morning from base areas. Visibility higher up is limited at best and quite poor in places. - Myoko Now: Friday 26th December 2025
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 176cm Posted on Friday 26th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Santa was a little late with the best present for the holidays; just before 5 am it was just beginning to snow, and the wind was really blowing. Right now we’ve got something like 20cm on the ground already. I’ll measure the total when things taper off and add it on tomorrow so we get a good figure for the total fall. The timing is great, though. A 5cm base really isn't workable, is it. I would say 15cm is also unusable, 30cm is barely OK. The national forecast says upwards of 80cm for Niigata Prefecture, of which we are a part (although lots of natives think we’re in Nagano. We’re just surrounded by Nagano on three sides, not part of it). The wind is pretty strong, too, so there is a lot of drifting at the moment. The snow started recently enough that the snowplows haven’t moved out yet, so there’s some interesting conditions out there (i.e. if your rental car isn’t 4WD, take the shuttle bus!). Nice to see some good minus temperatures, too.
