- Hakuba Now: Sunday 28th December 2025
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 95cm Posted on Sunday 28th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. And it is a beautiful morning. The ski areas are reporting several up to 5cm of new snow on the mountain and there was some overnight down below too. You can now ski back down to base at Hakuba Happo-one over at Nakiyama and by the gondola. Yey. With more other lifts and runs opening up at various ski areas, we are at the stage of the season where I thing I can/should simplify the daily list that I put out below. As we are today, Hakuba 47 aside, all ski areas are now in the 'part open' to 'mostly open' kind of operational situation. I will continue to update the info in the list, and report on fresh snow that ski areas talk about, and also mention any notable news in the text of my report. There is more good snowfall on the way, probably starting on Tuesday. If forecasts are right, we might be on for a bunch of days of consecutive snowfall. That would be a big help. And hopefully, before too long, all of the ski areas will all be able to get fully open. -------------------------------- Ski area information for Sunday 28th December 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 276cm Posted on Sunday 28th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Good Morning Furano!! It's snowing again, and all is right with the world...at least more than it was yesterday. It does the heart good to see it coming down. Nice and fluffy. Good temps. The impending warm days have lowered their threat level to +2 and +3 C for the next two days, which is manageable in my book. Then down we drop off the charts with nighttime lows down to -17 C. Properly cold. In news, the resort has opened the A3 run on the Furano side, providing a bit more expert access. A3 is never groomed, so have at it. - Shiga Kogen Now: Saturday 27th December 2025
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 46cm Snowfall at base this season 203cm Posted on Saturday 27th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. The sun is out! Some lovely light snowfall yesterday being blown around by strong winds. Yakebitaiyama has been reporting a whopping 80cm of fresh snow since yesterday. Kumanoyu is reporting a more modest 20-30cm. Wind was a factor and so there's places where it's piled up much more than others, but my largely sheltered measuring point has 46cm since yesterday. A good amount of snow, whichever number you look at. Extracting exact information can be a challenge, but as far as I can tell from official sources, the only ski area not yet open is Tannenomori Okoji. All connections are still not fully open yet, but we're getting there. And there's some very nice conditions to enjoy. (Ignore the silly official snow depth numbers that have either stayed the same or decreased (!) this morning). Next significant snow due Wednesday. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 50cm Snowfall at base this season 147cm Posted on Saturday 27th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . I have very good news this morning. Yesterday really delivered with Nozawa-like snowfall and looking at the JMA maps it appears that this region got the most of the lot. At 3pm the ski area was reporting this much snow since morning: Yamabiko: 60cm Uenotaira: 50cm Hikage: 40cm Nagasaka: 40cm Karasawa: 40cm And this morning they are reporting an additional: Yamabiko: 35cm Uenotaira: 50cm Hikage: not reporting yet Nagasaka: not reporting yet Karasawa: not reporting yet They seem to be reporting up to 1m of snow up top. Totals below. Since my report yesterday, I have measured a cool 50cm. Excellent. Things can change quickly, and they sure have! And we have a bit of sunshine early on this morning. It should be a great morning for people heading up the mountain this morning. From what I can tell early on, more of the mountain is going to be open this morning, but the actual situation is a little unclear. (I'm seeing conflicting info early on). Despite the "Severe Snow Warning" issued yesterday afternoon, we ended up with only 2 cm at the base, and 5 cm on top. Someone clearly has not paid their bill to Mother Nature. - Myoko Now: Friday 26th December 2025
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 176cm Posted on Friday 26th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Santa was a little late with the best present for the holidays; just before 5 am it was just beginning to snow, and the wind was really blowing. Right now we’ve got something like 20cm on the ground already. I’ll measure the total when things taper off and add it on tomorrow so we get a good figure for the total fall. The timing is great, though. A 5cm base really isn't workable, is it. I would say 15cm is also unusable, 30cm is barely OK. The national forecast says upwards of 80cm for Niigata Prefecture, of which we are a part (although lots of natives think we’re in Nagano. We’re just surrounded by Nagano on three sides, not part of it). The wind is pretty strong, too, so there is a lot of drifting at the moment. The snow started recently enough that the snowplows haven’t moved out yet, so there’s some interesting conditions out there (i.e. if your rental car isn’t 4WD, take the shuttle bus!). Nice to see some good minus temperatures, too. Oh happy day.... --- Resort opening schedule: Akakura Kanko: 70m, -3° All lifts except Hotel No. 1 Akakura Onsen: 40cm, -2° Yodel No. 1 Triple, Yodel No. 4 Pair. Runors are that Ginrei may open, at least as a test for a large school group. Alpen Blick Resort 25cm, 2° (I think those are pretty early figures, which is surprising from a resort that isn’t that fast with reporting) Shirakaba Capsule and Ikenotaira Quad lifts Myoko Suginohara: 40cm top, 15cm base; -6° (expect more on that snow!)
