Apologies that I was not able to check any published numbers during the daytime. We've had good snowfall since yesterday. Good heavy snowfall at times. This morning we have cloud around the mountain but there's some blue sky away from it and forecasts tell us to expect some clearer conditions as the day progresses. The Japan Meteorological Agency measuring point, close to Karasawa, has 35cm of fresh snowfall over the last 24 hours. My own measurement since early yesterday morning is 42cm. Tomorrow is the start of a long weekend as Monday is a national holiday. Sun is forecast from the start so it should be a good day - and popular, too. Expect a lot of people! We should get back to snow falling from the skies on Sunday and, again, perhaps heavy at times. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Morning from Madarao. Several cm of snow so far with more due today, though early on it is a bit on/off. Looks like it might settle in and start building up. Clear skies are currently forecast for tomorrow, with the snow likely to stop before the end of today/early tomorrow morning. That feels like a bit of a common pattern this season... some good snowfalls (52cm on 27th December, 25cm on 3rd January and 43cm on 6th January) but we haven't yet had a period of relentless heavy snowfall that continuing for several days. 'Yet' is hopefully an important word there as I look forward to when we get one of those periods, even with all the shoveling that comes with it! Anyway, let's see how much we get today. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Good snow is falling, and it looks to really pick up through the day. Powder snow on the slopes! It’s starting to feel more, well, Myoko. I have to be on the slopes early again today; often I have to get out early for plowing and snow checking and such, but then I can get back to my computer to pick up the resort reports and provide you, dear reader, with the freshest news possible (usually still hot). I did discover that the resorts usually update between 7:30 and 8am (which made me a little late tomorrow—but so were the people I went to meet). The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Another early morning on the hill today, so I hope we have some fresh news in by the time I have to take off. I have to say that the resorts on the whole have been pretty good about getting news up by 8 or so; I still think they’d help themselves by posting conditions earlier in the morning before people make the day’s decision. Maybe people aren’t so worried about the immediate conditions anyway. It’s been surprisingly uncrowded on the slopes, even at the end of the New Year holidays. Maybe the domestic crowd held back because of low snow levels. I guess we’ll see on the coming three-day weekend, which usually means full parking lots and more people out on the slopes. Another light dusting of snow overnight, and more snow is coming. I wonder when we will get continuous, multi-day snowfalls (which would really help get the backcountry ready)? I really start to feel like the old guy on the hill when I ramble on about, “that January when we only had one day of sun.” I’m pretty sure it actually happened.
