There's a lot of people around seeking out the fresh snow. Good job we got it right now, ne. :) All lifts are go! ------------------------------------ Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa base: -7℃, light wind, 25cm of crystal snow. Moiwa 800m: -9.4℃, NNW1.9m/s, 30cm snowfall. Annupuri 1100m: -11.4℃, WNW6.0m/s. Village 1000m: -10.3℃, WSW2.8m/s. Hirafu Hanazono 1000m: -10.9℃, ENE2.0m/s. Hanazono 800m: -8.3℃, N1.2m/s. Sea of Japan Benkei cape WNW5m/s, Kamui cape SW10m/s, 1002hPa, 2.5m waves. The wind has weakened ahead of the low-pressure system, and sea wave heights have decreased. The development of wind slabs above 800m has subsided, and 30–40cm of light, crystalline snow has settled on the mountain. The snow surface has not formed slabs, and the avalanche risk is currently low. In the Hirafu area, lift operations will be delayed as crews require time to recover installations. Please follow instructions from the Ski Patrol. Hanazono Gate 5 is expected to open as soon as preparations are complete. Moiwa Gate 6, at a lower elevation, will be open for a limited time. Keep in mind that outside the gates is not the ski resort. When heading out, consult with the ski patrol and ensure you have your beacon, probe, shovel, as well as a rope. Do not duck the boundary ropes. The Niseko Rules are built on a foundation of trust between users and the resort. The snow is deep. If you enter the backcountry without proper equipment, you will not be able to return to the resort. Bring snowshoes or touring skins. There is no such thing as “perfect safety” in this sport. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Morning from Madarao. Snow and wind yesterday with the snow starting to pile up by evening and giving my measuring area 34cm. The ski area is reporting 30cm and saying that there's varying amounts of snow depending on where you are due to the strong winds. We have another nice surprise of some blue sky and sun at the moment and so the people here for the last day of the long weekend should have some great conditions to enjoy. Not as windy too, thankfully. Maybe some more sun tomorrow and then snow going into Wednesday. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Snow followed by sun; seems to be the new standard in Myoko. We used to expect multiple days of good snowfall, but it just hasn’t happened yet this season. It was weird weather day yesterday, as expected. Some strong south/west winds did cause some lift closures. Akakan saw both the Sky Cable gondola and the Hotel No. 3 lift closed, which made it impossible to ski over to the Akakura Onsen side of the mountain (but the Champion no. 3 lift, which is the link from Onsen to Akakan, was running). The scrolling banner at the Akakn website says No. 3 is being checked out and is not running; their animation does show it operating. Hmmmm. Very nice. Cortina and Tsugaike both report about 30cm on mountain. Happo-one hasn't updated their official site info yet. I'm having trouble connecting with multiple sites this morning and so some of the snow depth data below has not been updated for today. We have some nice blue sky at the moment along with cloud, but it is still windy and that wind is affecting quite a few lifts. Hopefully they might be able to get moving. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Morning from Zao. Heavy snowfall and some very strong winds and wild conditions overnight. This morning it is very hard to put one number on the snowfall (due to those winds). Measurements vary from 19cm - 36cm, but after a bit of checking around I'm going with 25cm. The ski area itself is reporting 20cm. It is still snowing and it is still windy but most lifts appear to be starting the day as planned, though the summit section of the Zao Ropeway is on hold.
