  • Yuzawa Now: Friday 12th December 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 21cm Snowfall at base this seas 81cm Posted on Friday 12th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We had some fine weather yesterday but it was raining heavily by later night. A lot going on this morning. Firstly, Kagura is closed today due to windy conditions. So there are no ski areas open in the region. Next up... snow. Yes, the rain turned into snow overnight. It is snowing and our overnight snowfall Yuzawa measurement as of 8:30am is 21cm. It's still snowing so there will be more to report tomorrow. Tomorrow we are expecting clearer skies and maybe sunshine. Joetsu Kokusai is still planning to open tomorrow, though there are no specific details to share just yet. Naeba hasn't announced anything yet about opening tomorrow, and there's no further word yet from Kandatsu. Whether they can open or not tomorrow will likely depend on how much snow falls today. Yuzawa Kogen will be open tomorrow... but for sightseeing only. There's not enough snow (at this moment) for skiing or snowboarding there yet. GALA Yuzawa will also be open tomorrow... for sightseeing only. Not for skiing/snowboarding. Don't turn up with your gear! That's it for now. Back to the snow dancing. -------------------------------- Ski area information for Thursday 11th December 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Sunday 14th December 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 97cm Posted on Sunday 14th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. This morning we have cloud but we also have some blue sky and the sun shining through at times. However, we are expecting some rain during the day today. Hopefully, that might have changed to snow by tomorrow - certainly on the mountains. Yesterday was the first day of the ski season at Naeba, Kandatsu Snow Resort and Joetsu Kokusai ski areas. And from today you can also ski at Yuzawa Kogen. Please check details on (planned) available lifts operations below. It looks like only the lower lift at Naeba is open early on this morning due to windy conditions at higher elevations. No specific news about restrictions at Kagura as of 8:30am. With many ski areas planning to open next weekend, unfortunately the forecasts don't really show us getting much snow before then (beyond tomorrow). --------------------------------- Ski area information for Sunday 14th December 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Wednesday 17th December 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 97cm Posted on Wednesday 17th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It looks like higher areas might have got at least another light dusting of snow overnight, but nothing down to town level. There is a lot of cloud around early on this morning but some blue sky too and we might get some clearer skies this morning again. Rain and possibly snow is forecast later on and overnight into tomorrow morning. Kandatsu Snow Resort has cancelled its planned night skiing over the coming weekend and fireworks on Saturday (reason: snow conditions); though the ski area itself still plans to be open. There's not much else to report really at the moment. Forecasts are still telling us all to expect a warm weekend - up into (low) double digits. Like I said yesterday, we can probably expect some of the ski areas that plan to be open from this weekend to announce delays; some higher areas might be ok. As of this moment, that is still just speculation based on what can be seen and a few conversations. I will bring you any actual confirmed news in this report each morning. It is a disappointing situation, for sure, but we have been here before; it's not particularly unusual at this point. Hopefully we might get some more winter coming in next week. --------------------------------- Ski area information for Wednesday 17th December 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Friday 19th December 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 97cm Posted on Friday 19th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. We had a kind of wet and drizzly day in town yesterday. Today should be much nicer and we start the day with clear blue skies (with a hint of thin cloud in places early on). Some forecasts indicate that we might get some snow Sunday night, but with temps set to rise possibly up to around 14C in town during the day on Sunday, it doesn't seem likely (and might well be rain in town). Of course, I hope that snow will happen. Thankfully it should be getting colder again from Monday, and we can hope that Santa might bring us some snowy presents. I will try not to dwell on the 'people are getting worried about the snow situation' thing over the coming days. But, of course, we will continue to bring you details of what is actually happening... good or bad or whatever. Just make sure you do the snow dance every morning, everyone! Or perhaps twice a day. OK, so here's the latest ski area news from around the region: Ishiuchi Maruyama is having a limited opening this morning. The Sunrise Express gondola, Kita Maruyama Family pair and Green lifts are scheduled to operate with two beginner runs available. GALA Yuzawa plans to open 5 ski runs from tomorrow (Saturday). The Tashiro area of Kagura and Muikamachi Hakkaisan also plan to be part open from tomorrow. The town-level Yuzawa Park still appears intent on on opening its Number 7 lift tomorrow. (That was being said on Wednesday, so it is possible it might change). Ipponsugi, Iwappara, Maiko Snow Resort, NASPA Ski Garden and Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort ski areas have all officially delayed opening. At the time of this report, no specific news can be found regarding the possible opening of the town-level Nakazato Snow Wood tomorrow. I'll be back tomorrow morning with the latest. --------------------------------- Ski area information for Friday 19th December 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It's a fine morning and, of course, we expect fine weather over the weekend... featuring very mild conditions. Some southerly wind is also forecast today, and hopefully that will not complicate matters. GALA Yuzawa is open this morning with 4 runs available in the Central Area and 2 open in the Northern Area. Your reporter will not be there to enjoy them, but the webcams from GALA looks rather appealing at the start of the day. Yuzawa Park is going ahead with the Number 7 lift, and Muikamachi Hakkaisan north of Yuzawa is also open. Today also sees the Tashiro Ropeway and Tashiro Area of Kagura opening up for the season, along with Dragondola (connecting Tashiro and Naeba). Note that the connecting course between Tashiro and Kagura is not yet available. (That is scheduled to open from 27th December). And a little more of Naeba, Kandatsu and Joetsu Kokusai are also available. We have at least five other ski areas now on standby to open as soon as there is enough snow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 97cm Posted on Wednesday 24th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We have some early morning rain, hoping it will ease off this morning. GALA Yuzawa is going to be closed all of today due to forecast winds. And also only the Mitsumata Area of Kagura ski area will be open today (Tashiro and main Kagura Area closed). Yuzawa Kogen is, at time of writing, checking and so unclear if it will open this morning. As is Ishiuchi Maruyama. There may be other changes at the other ski areas that are open. Things feel rather... unexciting... right now. But our current situation is not unique. At times like this it is worth remembering that the situation can change very quickly... and often does. If Friday brings us the snow that is on the forecasts, everything will hopefully look much different come Saturday. Let's keep that in mind and look forward to it. And perhaps at the same time let's try not to focus too much just on Friday - just in case it doesn't live up to the expectation! It is worth noting that as well as the snow, strong winds are also forecast for Friday. That may well disrupt lifts, but the good from that is that it sounds like the day is going to bring us some proper blizzard-like conditions. And we need that. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 97cm Posted on Thursday 25th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Happy Christmas! I so very much wish that I could be a beautiful white and fluffy day with all the ski areas open and bustling; everyone having fun. And I'm certainly not alone with that thought. Alas, I'm afraid, the weather is pretty awful. It's raining. But tomorrow is the day of that promised (or should I just use the word forecasted) snowfall. It looks like it will be a 1-day thing, with clearer weather possible on Saturday and Sunday. So the big question is whether will we get enough for all the ski areas to open up. We can only hope. Fingers crossed everyone! Oh yes, it might be very windy too; enough to potentially affect ski lift operations. From what I hear, that seems likely. • Yuzawa Now: Friday 26th December 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this seas 104cm Posted on Friday 26th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The snow started early morning and as if 9am it is falling very nicely and quickly piling up. My measurement so far is 7cm. It's not expected to still be snowing by this time tomorrow, but all being well I'll have a decent number to report tomorrow morning. If it does continue, we can expect at least some of the ski areas that are still on standby to open to actually get part open tomorrow. At this point, that is just a guess.... other than Maiko Snow Resort which has confirmed that it plans to open tomorrow morning. Lots might change between now and tomorrow morning, so the information listed below might quickly be out of date. We'll be sure things are good once things calm down. There was some strong wind early morning. Kagura is open up to Kagura Gondola and the Tashiro Area is closed. Due to wind. Ishiuchi Maruyama and Yuzawa Kogen both closed for skiing/snowboarding today (largely due to snow). Hopefully will re-open very soon. Apologies for the somewhat fragmented report this morning! What's important is that we are getting some snow. May it continue. --------------------------------- GALA Yuzawa Part open Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 30cm Lifts scheduled to be operating: Central Area: Gondola, Barouche quad, Sociable quad, Phaeton pair, Coach pair Northern Area: Victoria quad Courses scheduled to be open: Central Area: Melody, Entertainment, Gigi, Grenoble Northern Area: Broadway ----------------------- Ishiuchi Maruyama Closed Closed today ----------------------- Joetsu Kokusai Part open Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 30cm Lifts scheduled to be operating: 7 lifts Courses scheduled to be open: 4 courses ----------------------- Kagura Part open Official snow depth: Top: 110cm Base: 60cm Lifts scheduled to be operating: 4 of 18 lifts Courses scheduled to be open: 5kan of 30 courses ---------------------------- Kandatsu Snow Resort Part open Lifts scheduled to be operating: A Lift (pair) B Lift (quad) C Lift (quad) ---------------------------- Muikamachi Hakkaisan Part open Official snow depth: Top: 50cm Base: 5cm Lifts scheduled to be operating: Ropeway Number 3 pair ---------------------------- Naeba Part open Official snow depth: Top: 60cm Base: 30cm Lifts scheduled to be operating: 6 of 12 Including Dragondola connecting Naeba with the Tashiro Area of Kagura Courses scheduled to be open: 10 of 24 courses ---------------------------- Yuzawa Kogen Part open Closed for skiing/snowboarding ---------------------------- Yuzawa Park Part open Official snow depth: Top: 5cm (still!) Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 45cm Snowfall at base this seas 149cm Posted on Saturday 27th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. A very good morning to you from Yuzawa. I recall many times in these reports over the years when I have said how quickly things can change. This is one of those days. It's so great to be able to report another 45cm of snowfall since yesterday. In the interest of getting this report up, the detailed list of ski areas will be back... tomorrow. (We'll be preparing that during today to be ready for tomorrow). Right now early on this morning, it looks like the following ski areas plan to be open ---- part open ---- for the first time this season today: - Iwappara - Maiko Snow Resort - Muica Snow Resort - NASPA Ski Garden (from 1pm) These are aiming for opening tomorrow: - Ipponsugi Snow Park - Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Others are currently unconfirmed. A lot of busy people this morning! The snow has eased off and there's a bit of sun appearing. We still need much more snow of course but yesterday definitely felt more like what we expect. The next decent delivery seems due from Wednesday. • Yuzawa Now: Sunday 28th December 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this seas 156cm Posted on Sunday 28th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. We don't have what we would consider 'normal' (large) amounts of snow just yet, but there were some fine conditions to enjoy yesterday. We have received several+ cm of fresh snow overnight and it has been lingering so far this morning but we expect the skies to clear up by this afternoon. It is great to see almost every ski area in Yuzawa Town and Minamiuonuma City now open. Every ski area in the region is either part open or mostly open (Kagura). The only exception appears to be Hakkai Sanroku which does not yet seem to be open. Regarding the daily list of ski areas (below) --- we're at that stage where it's really complicated! Checking all the fine details each morning would seriously delay when the report appears and so now that ski areas are all at least part open the list has been simplified somewhat. We are keeping in information regarding major connections between ski areas (eg Yuzawa Kogen <> GALA <> Ishiuchi and the Dragondola between Kagura and Naeba). If you plan to visit any of the ski areas, check with their official information to be sure about what exactly is planned to open each morning. Forecasts are looking promising for good snowfall again Wednesday through next weekend. With a few more decent snowfalls, we can hope to ski areas getting to 'fully open' status. Easily the best status of them all! Before then, tomorrow should be fine and sunny. Update: The Yuzawa Snow Link ticket that covers Yuzawa Kogen, GALA Yuzawa and Ishiucui Maruyama ski areas is on sale from today. The Ropeway link between Yuzawa Kogen and GALA Yuzawa is definitely not yet open - a free shuttle bus is required to get between those two ski areas. There's some conflicting information out there this morning regarding the ski lift that connects GALA Yuzawa and Ishiuchi Maruyama - the status of that lift is unclear. We'll try to have a clearer picture on that tomorrow. --------------------------------- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 90cm Notes: The Central Area and Northern Area are both open The Southern Area (and Ropeway connection with Yuzawa Kogen) is not yet open The connection with Ishiuchi Maruyama is not yet open ----------------------- Ishiuchi Maruyama Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 40cm Notes: The top connection with the Northern Area of GALA Yuzawa is not yet open ----------------------- Iwappara Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 40cm ----------------------- Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 70cm ----------------------- Kagura Official snow depth: Top: 140cm Base: 90cm Notes: Both of the base areas (Mitsumata and Tashiro) are open The Dragondola connection between Tashiro Area and Naeba is scheduled to be open ---------------------------- Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 60cm ---------------------------- Maiko Snow Resort Official snow depth: 125cm ---------------------------- Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: Top: 120cm Base: 60cm ---------------------------- Naeba Official snow depth: Top: 90cm Base: 60cm Notes: The Dragondola connection between Naeba and the Tashiro Area (Kagura) is open ---------------------------- NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 80cm ---------------------------- Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: Top: 40cm Base: 20cm Notes: The Ropeway connection with the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is not yet open ---------------------------- Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 30cm ---------------------------- Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 30cm Yuzawa Now 2025-2026 season Data as of Sunday 28th December 2025 Total snowfall at base so far 156cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 10 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 45cm (on 27th December) November 2025 snowfall 12cm reported on 1 day December 2025 snowfall 144cm reported on 9 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 156cm Posted on Monday 29th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. So we are into the last few days of the year now and we have lovely weather this morning. The sun is out and we have clear blue skies. It has been cold early on with a bit of a wind higher up, but it should end up being a fine and relatively mild day. Ski areas will also very probably be very busy as many people are now on holiday from work for the New Year holidays. The lift connection between Ishiuchi Maruyama and GALA Yuzawa is now available. A special Yuzawa Snow Link ticket covers both ski area (and Yuzawa Kogen). At Kagura, the connecting course between Tashiro Kagura connecting course is also going to be available. All ski areas in Yuzawa are now at least part open and all ski area in Minamiuonuma (apart from Hakkai Sanroku) are part open. We should be getting fresh snow over the New Year and that should help build up the snow levels (which are still low). --------------------------------- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 90cm Notes: The Central Area and Northern Area are both fully open The connection in the Northern Area with Ishiuchi Maruyama is open The Southern Area (and Ropeway connection with Yuzawa Kogen) is not yet open ----------------------- Ishiuchi Maruyama Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 40cm Notes: The top connection with the Northern Area of GALA Yuzawa is now open ----------------------- Iwappara Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 30cm ----------------------- Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth (reported by ski area): 70cm ----------------------- Kagura Official snow depth: Top: 140cm Base: 90cm Notes: Both of the base areas (Mitsumata and Tashiro) are open The Dragondola connection between Tashiro Area and Naeba is scheduled to be open ---------------------------- Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 50cm ---------------------------- Maiko Snow Resort Official snow depth: 125cm ---------------------------- Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: Top: 120cm Base: 60cm ---------------------------- Naeba Official snow depth: Top: 90cm Base: 60cm Notes: The Dragondola connection between Naeba and the Tashiro Area (Kagura) is open ---------------------------- NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 70cm ---------------------------- Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: Top: 40cm Base: 20cm Notes: The Ropeway connection with the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is not yet open ---------------------------- Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 30cm ---------------------------- Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 25cm Yuzawa Now 2025-2026 season Data as of Monday 29th December 2025 Total snowfall at base so far 156cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 10 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 45cm (on 27th December) November 2025 snowfall 12cm reported on 1 day December 2025 snowfall 144cm reported on 9 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa.
