The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It's just a cloudy start to the day in Yuzawa and darker than how yesterday started off. If the local forecast is to be believed, snow is imminent and a decent amount of snow is promised in the coming 24+ hours... it should be snowing through tomorrow before easing off by Sunday. It's about +2 degrees at the moment and so the mild conditions continue but it should get colder as the day goes on. Strong winds are likely tomorrow, so keep that in mind if you plan to go high - there's a good chance Kagura will be affected. Less chance of that happening on Sunday so if you have a choice of the two days that might be the best bet. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Calmer this morning and just generally cloudy and overcast at the moment. It is bright and perhaps there's a chance of us getting some blue skies above later on. Temperature is currently hovering around 0 degrees and it does feel pretty mild. Almost spring-like, dare I say it. Hopefully that won't last for long and tomorrow we should be back to snow later on (after a mild start to the day) and overnight into Saturday it is looking like there's a good chance of decent snowfall as well, so conditions on Saturday should be fresh and hopefully deep again. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . As I write this report I can hear really noisy wind blowing about outside. Wasn't like that just a short while ago. Though from early on winds have been affecting Kagura with the Tashiro area closed this morning and Kagura only open from the Mitsumata Ropeway to the main quad. The Dragondola connecting Naeba with Tashiro is closed and a few of the upper lifts at Naeba also seem to be affected. Other than that though, at the moment, resorts seem to all be open as normal. Just a bit of new snow since yesterday, 5cm or so. Yesterday was a generally fine day in the area, somewhat overcast but bright and the snow conditions were very good by all accounts. Cloud and possible light snow forecast for the day before clearing up by tomorrow. For the moment it's just cloudy and actually quite mild, hovering around 0 degrees. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . The snow continued to fall from the skies yesterday and really quite heavily at times. Felt good to see it all coming down and there was probably 30cm or so during the day. I know I had to move that much off the top of the car total in two goes yesterday as it quickly built up. That's what we like to see! You'll notice lots of the resorts adding a big chunk of new snow to their numbers below over the last few days too. This morning weather conditions have calmed down. The forecast is cloudy for the day but at the moment the sun is out and shining down on us and a kind of blue but overcast look to the sky. Could turn out to be a fine one. The snow should definitely be fine though. The snow I moved off the car last night was very light and the people staying on for this morning will be rewarded with some great conditions. Yesterday the snow conditions were excellent as well, though less visibility. Today should be similar conditions, better views and fewer people. Back to snow late tonight followed by clearer weather on Thursday. Yesterday a few friends of mine who live in the Niigata city area were telling me of the chaos that 'heavy snow' was causing up there - all while it was just snowing very lightly here in this part of the Prefecture. Of course they have a different idea of what heave snow is, for them 10cm is heavy snow. It needs to be at least 30cm for us Snow Country folk to define it as heavy snow! But it does seem that people to the north and in the plains once again got more snow than usual, while we were missing out. Still snowing up there this morning I hear... But anyway... we also got our snow overnight, I'm happy to report. I'd say... about 20+cm. Resorts also reporting between 15cm and 30cm with the most being reported by Kagura (as is so often the case of course). So a decent layer of new snow and what's more it is continuing to snow now as I am writing the report. If it carries on like this we should be able to report some more decent numbers tomorrow morning. The only downside is that visibility is generally very poor on the slopes this morning and there's a moderate wind at times. Potentially stronger winds later on in the day. Tomorrow we might get to see the sun and it is forecast to be much clearer. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It's a bright morning in Yuzawa. The sun has been winning the battle with the clouds, but lots of (cloud) shadows being cast down on the slopes around town, making for some dramatic scenery. I feel that more cloud has been gathering though and snow is actually forecast for the region during the day today and into tomorrow. For now though, no new snow to report. It's about -3 degrees now with a high of around 0 forecast at town level. It is another busy morning on the snow with the popular resorts seeing lots of people out early to try and catch the snow at it's best. With tomorrow being a national holiday here in Japan, it'll definitely be busier than a normal weekday as people take advantage of the long weekend but likely less than today, especially from lunchtime onwards. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . There was some decent snowfall yesterday and overnight on the mountains with Kagura telling us they got 30-40cm of fresh snow since yesterday. Today it has been snowing on and off all day in town. Not a huge amount of fresh to report this late afternoon and snow is holding off at the moment. It's about -3 degrees right now - should get colder overnight and we are due more snow tomorrow. The local Niigata forecast tell us to expect up to 10cm of snowfall between now and 9am tomorrow morning. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . We are back to much more winterlike conditions this morning in Yuzawa. It's cold (-5 in town), snow is falling and there's a moderate wind as well. Resorts around town are reporting up to 10cm of fresh snow since yesterday. The snow is actually forecast for the day and it did seem set in, but as I am writing there are some clearings of cloud and even the sun out for short periods. I think that is temporary though - local reports tell us to expect up to 20cm before 4pm and then continuing into tomorrow. I'm going with that local report! Stronger winds affecting Kagura again and the Tashiro area is closed for the day. Limited operations from Mitsumata Ropeway as well, though the latest news from Kagura is that they are hoping to get the main quad running later if possible. Other resorts around town are open as normal. 3 day weekend coming up in Japan of course and this is one of the big weekends of the ski season here. Popular places will get busy. Maybe very busy. It's actually a good time to perhaps explore less well known places to avoid the crowds. Whatever, hope you have a fun weekend wherever you are and wherever you choose to ski or snowboard. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . The snow yesterday didn't really amount to much more than a dusting at town level and the resorts aren't reporting any fresh this morning. This morning the sun has been out. Some thin wispy cloud up there but generally blue skies. Out in the Minamiuonuma valley and looking north there does seem to be more cloud and indeed the local forecast is for the skies to cloud over later on today and hopefully by tonight it will be snowing. It's about +1 degrees in Yuzawa at the moment with a light wind. Good visibility and quiet slopes. Snow likely tomorrow and on and off through until Monday really. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Light somewhat wet snow earlier this morning in Yuzawa, but actually some bigger flakes of snow are falling right now outside. Just a dusting really at town level and a bit more on the mountains but with snow forecast for the day hopefully it can build up a bit. At the moment it is about 0C in town with a slight SE wind. It's probably not going to last long though and by tomorrow we will probably start the day with the sun shining. Friday is set to be snowy and windy though so hopefully we'll be primed for the weekend. Actually things looking good for decent snowfall from Friday into next week, so fingers crossed. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Rain, rain. Yes we got more than our fair share of it yesterday. Back in Minamiuonuma last night it was really pounding down as well. Can't have done us any favours and this morning the snow depth numbers of the resorts are mostly taking a dip. Let's try to get past that.... Overnight, the rain turned into snow and this morning just 1-2cm or so around town areas and up to 10cm on higher elevations. Very light snow is continuing to fall this morning though it's not the kind that will have new cm piling up. Grey clouds all around and the forecast is actually just for cloud for the day. It is currently -1C in Yuzawa town area and definitely feels colder than yesterday. It's not too windy in town but higher up wind is causing problems at the Naeba areas - the Dragondola is closed today along with the Tashiro area of Kagura. Mitsumata Ropeway is open, with Kagura up until the main quad lift there. Hopefully we have the rain behind us now and we can get back to snow. Maybe some overnight and then on Friday again and Sunday too. So it looks like it will be on and off in the coming few days. No new snow to report this morning from the town or on the slopes, and while there was a few flurries of snow earlier on, and it is generally just been cloudy up there. But actually the sun is out right now with some blue sky on show and while the forecast is for a cloudy day it might well be one of those days when things clear up. It's about +1 at the moment with a high of about +6 later on, and possibly... rain. If those temps drop soon enough it will hopefully be snow by the time I write the report tomorrow morning.
