The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It felt strange watching the Japanese news last night with heavy snowfall in Tokyo and other areas. A very large number of people being inconveniences by snow that they don't expect. Looking at the reports, more snow had fallen in central Tokyo than in Yuzawa. Very strange - one of those 'what's wrong with this picture?' moments! Here we just had 5-10cm of wet, heavy snow by the end of the day. This morning is a different story though and it feels like a proper Snow Country kind of morning. Nice big flakes of snow are coming down from the skies with some real speed and purpose at the moment. This is what we like to see. I had to move 20cm of snow this morning and with the way it is falling right now I expect that to quickly increase. Around town resorts are reporting about 20-30cm of new snowfall, Naeba saying up to 40cm has fallen since yesterday. Resorts seem to begenerally open as normal except the top areas of Naeba and the Tashiro part of Kagura. Very poor visibility out though even low down in town and with some strong winds as well it's not the most hospitably of conditions. The snowfall is forecast to continue into tomorrow morning. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Mostly cloudy yesterday with some sunny periods from time to time. This morning we are back to snow though. Perhaps not as much as some places nearer Tokyo (!) but around 5cm being reported from ski resorts around town and Naeba saying up to 20cm of fresh snow in some places on their resort slopes. The snow falling in town is of the wet variety and right now it is around +1C in Yuzawa. With temperatures forecast to drop during the day we can hopefully expect drier snow to be piling up later on. Up to 10-15cm of snow is forecast to fall in the region before evening today. Hopefully it will be snowing for most of the day here, though by later tomorrow the clouds are set to clear up and be followed by sunny weather on Wednesday. Back to snow on Thursday and Friday though so hopefully this week we can stack up a fair amount of fresh powder to play in. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday the weather was a strange one. It started off with those thin clouds and seemed to cloud over more before starting to clear up mid-morning. By late morning the sun was out and the clouds had almost all gone from the sky and lunchtime to mid afternoon it was a very fine day weather wise. Snow was good as well from the reports I have been hearing from people out and about. There's more cloud cover up there this morning for sure but the sun is out at the moment over Yuzawa. I don't think it will end up being like yesterday though as we are told to expect a cloudy afternoon and the chance of sleet (possibly even rain, nooooo!). The mild conditions look set to continue into tomorrow with another borderline rain/sleet/snow vauge local forecast for town. It should be snowing higher up though and the further good news is that later in the week we are due what looks like could be potentially decent snowfall. Let's hope so. Another fairly busy day at the popular resorts today and tomorrow too, also a holiday in Japan. This morning started off bright and sort of clear but a thin layer of cloud up in the skies above Yuzawa - more blue skies to the north in Minamiuonuma. As the morning progressed, the clouds cleared and now there are wide open clear blue skies over Yuzawa. There's some great scenery on display this lunchtime. With the snow of the last few days as well decent conditions out on the slopes especially early on - it was a cold start. Fireworks at Gala Yuzawa tonight. Tomorrow there is a chance of another bright start though it is forecast to cloud over later in the day. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . In my report I said 'nothing major' when talking about the snow lined up over the week. That's what the report said yesterday morning but the snow came and we have had a decent amount fall since then. Reports from around town vary, as they do of course, but I would say 20cm around town and the most being reported is from Kagura where up to 40cm has fallen. A bit unexpected but a nice surprise and it will certainly have made conditions much better for today and of course in time for the upcoming weekend as well. Snow still falling but only about 5cm due before it gets dark. According to the forecast the skies should be clearing up by evening as well and tomorrow is set to be a clear and sunny day in the area. Hopefully not warming up too much. After today hardly any snow forecast for the coming week. I'm partly saying that in the hope that it will encourage the snow gods out there to bring us lots of snow, and we can only hope they are wrong. For now though, renewed good conditions and it should be a fine long weekend. (Monday is a holiday in Japan). The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It did end up being rather cloudy yesterday but snow didn't happen in town and there's no new snow to report. It's hovering around freezing point now and should rise to around +3C today in Yuzawa. Once again the sun is out and we have blue skies above us. And once again the forecast for the day has been just cloud. Those same forecasts predict snow later today and tomorrow along with temperatures remaining below zero. Somewhat uncharacteristically for this region, after tomorrow there doesn't seem to be that much snow due on the week long forecast... January in Yuzawa is usually a snowfest of epic proportions! The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Earlier on this morning the sun was out and lots of blue sky above Yuzawa but it has quickly been clouding over. It is looking very cloudy just to the north in Minamiuonuma. For now though the sun is still out over Yuzawa as I type this but we seem destined to have a cloudy day and even some snow a bit later on, though if the forecast is correct it won't be much more than a light dusting. Temperatures dropped to around -5C overnight and currently are at -1C in town. A more promising snow event around Thursday but after that another clear and sunny weekend looks like it might be on the cards. Yesterday it was snowing and cloudy for the whole day but there was only a thin coating of new snow to show for it by evening in town, and this morning the resorts around Yuzawa are reporting 1-5cm of snow - Kagura up top 5-10cm since yesterday. This morning clouds have dispersed and we have blue skies once again, even though the local forecast is cloud. Similar conditions along with mild temperatures are likely tomorrow and Wednesday as well with more snow due around Thursday. At 9am this morning it is -2C in Yuzawa. I think I'm right in thinking that we're still less snow than usual for the time of year. It's going to be interesting to see how the season turns out when we look back on it. For now though still a lot of snow out there and it should be a fine morning on the mountains. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Interesting weather over the region yesterday. Thin wispy clouds developed mid morning and it all went more silvery than the early blue, though later in the day the skies cleared somewhat again for a lovely evening. It didn't warm up too much yesterday but there was inevitably some melt going on. There has been no fresh snowfall overnight but snow started to fall earlier this morning. Looks like it is coming down quite nicely in some resorts now from the webcams from around town. The snow clouds will probably clear up by tomorrow though with a few days of clearer weather lined up early in the week. Currently it is 0C in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday was a snowy and windy day pretty much all day, and there's another 10-15cm or so coming out of it. Winds did their thing blowing it all round and so pockets of more and areas of less, but a good covering all round I think. This morning there are blue skies above Yuzawa and the sun is out. It's about -3C with a high of +1C likely early afternoon. The weekend visitors to Yuzawa will be most pleased today. With really great snow conditions and the fine weather, it should make for a great day on the mountain. Tomorrow is likely going to be more cloudy but we don't have a whole lot of snow on the forecast for the next few days into next week and it might get milder. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . A very good morning from a very snowy Yuzawa. It is one of those mornings when it is difficult to put a number on how much snow has fallen. Let's just call it a lot. I'll tell you what the resorts are saying. First up the headline is a whopping 60-80cm of new snowfall at Kagura. Naeba are saying 40-60cm and resorts around town have said between 30cm and 50cm. A lot. It's a cold -5C start to the day. Winds are affecting some resorts with the Tashiro area of Kagura closed this morning as well as the Dragondola link of course to Naeba. Mitsumata is also limited but other resorts around town seem to be open as normal. Snow is expected to continue through the day and tomorrow we should have clearer conditions - perhaps the sun. It should be a very fine weekend with excellent conditions pretty much everywhere. Especially if we get the 20cm or so more snowfall today that is forecast locally. This is the kind of snowfall we expect in Yuzawa, and lets hope there is lot more to come. Conditions of course will have been transformed since a few days ago with all this new snow. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Good news from Yuzawa this morning as snow has been falling the second half of yesterday. There hasn't been a huge amount on the ground and resorts around town have been reporting between 5cm and 15cm of new snowfall. With the cold temperature (-4C) and the snow coming down nicely now we can hope for some decent snowfall today. The local Niigata forecast is saying up to 20cm before 4pm today and then the snow is set to continue into tomorrow. The new layer of snow is very welcome and covering up what had become quite icy conditions on many runs around town. The deeper the better. We may well see clearer conditions over the weekend and so we need as much snow as possible today and tomorrow! Poor visibility around town and on the resorts.
