This morning started off not quite as clear and has gradually got move overcast as the day has moved on. It's mostly grey skies now, mid afternoon. Very warm though, over 15 degrees, but the lack of the sun is probably keeping the damaged limited. Unfortunately, rain is due later on, perhaps turning into snow overnight especially in higher areas. Tomorrow should be colder. Wind too. GALA Yuzawa is closed for the day due to winds which seem to be getting stronger this afternoon. After that clearing up for the weekend is what the latest forecast tells us. Yesterday the snowfall eased off late in the morning and by darkness arrived there was quite a lot of clear sky above the region. It got really quite cold as well actually. Frost on the car outside, and apparently temperatures down to -8C overnight. They are going to rise to around +9 today as things warm up once again. Early on the sun is out and lots of blue skies. We are going to have a lovely clear day here and tomorrow should be similar - and warmer. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday the report was updated to say it had started raining. It was snowing by the afternoon, though not the kind of snow that leaves new cm on the ground. As expected it quickly got colder as the day went on and this morning not only is it rather cold, but we also have snow on the ground and the snow is still falling! Resorts around town are reporting between 5cm and 20cm of new snowfall overnight and I can say that I had to move about 15cm off the top of my car earlier this morning. It's actually coming down quite heavily at the moment as well. What a difference a day can make. Strong winds are affecting some ski lifts with the top of Naeba and the Tashiro part of Kagura closed this morning. Unfortunately, this return to winter seems destined to be short-lived. The snow will probably ease off later on today and then a clear, sunny and warm day is likely tomorrow. Things were calmer earlier on, but in the last hour or so some very noisy winds have whipped up and it's blowing a bit of a gale outside here in Minamiuonuma. I was in Yuzawa just earlier and it wasn't as windy but the forecast is for the warmth of the early morning to make way for wind and much colder conditions during the day. I would expect that these winds might affect lift operations at some resorts, though at the moment we can't confirm any disruptions now other than Ishiuchi Maruyama saying on their website that the top lifts have been stopped temporarily. Anyway, yesterday was warm but perhaps not as much as we expected. We have probably already had the highest temperature of the day today as it will quickly get colder and later on we may even be cold enough to see some snow falling. That would be nice. From Tuesday though a return to warm seems very probable. Update: it has started raining. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Late last night there was the sound of heavy rain and strong winds outside and a temperature of +7C as of midnight. Didn't sound like a particularly good way to start the weekend! I'm glad to say that things have calmed down since then and it's just a cloudy morning here in Yuzawa. The roads seem to be mostly dried up. Cloud, but some areas showing some blue sky. To the south of the main town area it looks like it is nice and sunny over Naeba and perhaps we can expect the clouds to clear up here over town as well as the day progresses. At the moment it is 5 degrees in town with a high of around 8-9 degrees forecast for the day. A real mixed bag on the forecasts, difficult to know how the weekend will turn out. Tomorrow take your choice from light snow showers, sleet, rain, sun and cloud. It does seem to be that later tomorrow into Monday will get colder than it has been but probably warm up again after that so just a short term dip in temps. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday turned out to be a rather hazy day, but definitely warm. Very spring-like. The skies are a bit clearer and blue-er this morning, and it's another warm start to the day.... about +7C now at 9am with a high of above 10C forecast for the early afternoon today. Some mixed messages on different forecasts, but rain seems to be a common feature later today/tonight and overnight, hopefully clearing up by the time the lifts start tomorrow. We're hoping that will be coming down as snow at higher elevations. So higher elevations will be the pick of the bunch for the weekend for the best chance of better snow conditions. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It warmed up to about 11 degrees in town yesterday so a fair bit of snow melt going on. The sun was out for most of the day, though it got more overcast as the day went on after the blue start to the day. This morning starts off similarly. It's already about 7C and cloudy/overcast and it might get warmer still today. We really want it to cool down a bit, but can't see that happening until Saturday and there's a chance of rain before then. As expected it was a case of hard groomers yesterday morning and heavier soft granular snow later on in the morning and afternoon. Better snow as you get higher up. I'd expect similar conditions today. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday there was very light snow falling from time to time. Very light indeed - it was almost not snowing, it was that light. If you get my meaning! Clearer skies early on this morning and looks like it is going to be a lovely clear one as forecast. And warming up too. I feel the forecast has somewhat toned down the forecast higher temperatures but today it may reach around 10 degrees in the town area, and warmer still likely tomorrow. Tons of snow still of course but expect spring like conditions on the courses. It will be icy and noisy early on but the snow will soften up and get heavier as the sun does it's thing during the day. We have actually had some wet snow falling here today, though very lazily not the kind that will bring us any "new snowfall" to report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Snow falling for most of yesterday though it didn't add up to much in terms of cm on the ground, perhaps a few cm on the slopes. This morning there's still some cloud around but increasing amounts of blue sky - it's going to be a fine day. At the moment it is around -2 degrees but probably will rise to around 5 degrees later on. Still looking like this week is going to be a week of sunny conditions and a gradual warming up. From Thursday through Saturday we are looking at temperatures rising above 15 degrees in town, perhaps even approaching 20. Yikes. Spring would seem to have arrived! It was snowing for pretty much most of the day here yesterday, but by evening there wasn't a huge amount to show for it - mostly because of the strong gusty winds that were persisting throughout the day. So for the most part there wasn't enough snow to cover that layer of ice from the previous days rain unfortunately. Better conditions were to be found higher up. Difficult to put numbers on the new snowfall. 10cm on the top of my car since last night and 5cm in the day and so 15cm seems a good number. Naeba is reporting 5-10cm. Kagura reports 20-30cm. Other resorts have increased their numbers by around 20cm so that should give a decent idea. It's still snowing this morning but much less windy and all resorts are opened as scheduled. Currently about -1C in town. The snow is expected to ease off later on today. From tomorrow, lots of sun in the coming week. And it's going to get warmer. Very warm by the end of the week by the looks of the latest forecast with temperatures likely to rise well into double digit numbers. Has this been the last prolonged winter like snow storm of the season before we click into 'spring season' proper? Possibly, but certainly not the last snow of course. Many of the resorts around town are open until the end of March/beginning of April. Higher places continue through into May, and Kagura often is still open at the end of May. So a long time left yet. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . The rain wasn't fun yesterday, and it was really coming down at times. Windy too along with the warm conditions. For the first day of March, it wasn't too good! The rain turned into snow overnight though. Around 5cm or so this morning with resorts reporting up to 10cm of fresh snow. Snow is falling at the moment, though it's definitely of the wet variety. But definitely better than what we had yesterday that's for sure. It's going to be a dusting on ice and the wind probably won't help in that respect either today... Unfortunately, strong winds are causing problems with lifts around town. There's limited operations at Naeba and Kagura, GALA Yuzawa (which has actually closed now), NASPA Ski Garden and Yuzawa Kogen in Yuzawa. Also it seems that Maiko Snow Resort is being affected by strong winds with the Gondola and top bowl area closed at the time of writing. The winds are forecast to continue through the day along with snow showers. Tomorrow is forecast to be calmer though some snowfall may continue. Looking ahead in the coming week we can expect more sunny conditions. Hopefully it will keep cold, though a warm up like we say over the last few days might be on the cards again for later in the week. Tonight it is the Yuzawa Snow Festival along the main onsen road from the West Exit of the main Echigo Yuzawa Station, though the weather isn't looking like it will be co-operating and events may well get cancelled.
