The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday there was very light snow falling from time to time. Very light indeed - it was almost not snowing, it was that light. If you get my meaning! Clearer skies early on this morning and looks like it is going to be a lovely clear one as forecast. And warming up too. I feel the forecast has somewhat toned down the forecast higher temperatures but today it may reach around 10 degrees in the town area, and warmer still likely tomorrow. Tons of snow still of course but expect spring like conditions on the courses. It will be icy and noisy early on but the snow will soften up and get heavier as the sun does it's thing during the day. We have actually had some wet snow falling here today, though very lazily not the kind that will bring us any "new snowfall" to report. And it hasn't been warming up that much either really --- that is definitely due tomorrow though with Thursday and Friday in particular looking like they will warm up considerably. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Snow falling for most of yesterday though it didn't add up to much in terms of cm on the ground, perhaps a few cm on the slopes. This morning there's still some cloud around but increasing amounts of blue sky - it's going to be a fine day. At the moment it is around -2 degrees but probably will rise to around 5 degrees later on. Still looking like this week is going to be a week of sunny conditions and a gradual warming up. From Thursday through Saturday we are looking at temperatures rising above 15 degrees in town, perhaps even approaching 20. Yikes. Spring would seem to have arrived! It was snowing for pretty much most of the day here yesterday, but by evening there wasn't a huge amount to show for it - mostly because of the strong gusty winds that were persisting throughout the day. So for the most part there wasn't enough snow to cover that layer of ice from the previous days rain unfortunately. Better conditions were to be found higher up. Difficult to put numbers on the new snowfall. 10cm on the top of my car since last night and 5cm in the day and so 15cm seems a good number. Naeba is reporting 5-10cm. Kagura reports 20-30cm. Other resorts have increased their numbers by around 20cm so that should give a decent idea. It's still snowing this morning but much less windy and all resorts are opened as scheduled. Currently about -1C in town. The snow is expected to ease off later on today. From tomorrow, lots of sun in the coming week. And it's going to get warmer. Very warm by the end of the week by the looks of the latest forecast with temperatures likely to rise well into double digit numbers. Has this been the last prolonged winter like snow storm of the season before we click into 'spring season' proper? Possibly, but certainly not the last snow of course. Many of the resorts around town are open until the end of March/beginning of April. Higher places continue through into May, and Kagura often is still open at the end of May. So a long time left yet. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . The rain wasn't fun yesterday, and it was really coming down at times. Windy too along with the warm conditions. For the first day of March, it wasn't too good! The rain turned into snow overnight though. Around 5cm or so this morning with resorts reporting up to 10cm of fresh snow. Snow is falling at the moment, though it's definitely of the wet variety. But definitely better than what we had yesterday that's for sure. It's going to be a dusting on ice and the wind probably won't help in that respect either today... Unfortunately, strong winds are causing problems with lifts around town. There's limited operations at Naeba and Kagura, GALA Yuzawa (which has actually closed now), NASPA Ski Garden and Yuzawa Kogen in Yuzawa. Also it seems that Maiko Snow Resort is being affected by strong winds with the Gondola and top bowl area closed at the time of writing. The winds are forecast to continue through the day along with snow showers. Tomorrow is forecast to be calmer though some snowfall may continue. Looking ahead in the coming week we can expect more sunny conditions. Hopefully it will keep cold, though a warm up like we say over the last few days might be on the cards again for later in the week. Tonight it is the Yuzawa Snow Festival along the main onsen road from the West Exit of the main Echigo Yuzawa Station, though the weather isn't looking like it will be co-operating and events may well get cancelled. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . We're into March already, can you believe that? After a warm feeling day yesterday (though a chilly feeling evening), we have another very mild morning. It is already 7 degrees here and probably will rise to perhaps around 11 degrees early this afternoon. Local forecast told us to expect some sun and clearer skies this morning but right now it's just generally grey and cloudy. OK so rain. Seems we can expect rain later on in the day today, up to higher elevations as well, though by the time I am writing the report for tomorrow we will hopefully have some fresh snow on the ground. The forecast for tomorrow is snow all day and perhaps moderate winds as well. Talking of wind, while there doesn't seem to be much of a wind here at town level, there's apparently a fair wind blowing in the Kagura area and as such the Tashiro part of that resort is closed. Other resorts seem unaffected. Let's hope I can report some snow tomorrow morning. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Sadly not the best of news to report this morning, that's for sure. It was raining yesterday late afternoon and overnight, and it has been raining early this morning as well. Already +3 degrees now and destined to rise to around 6C or maybe more. The forecast for the day is actually clearer weather and so hopefully the clouds will clear up and we'll be safe from 'r', though tomorrow looks like it will be even warmer and maybe approaching double digit temperatures. Rain due later in the day but still a chance that it will be snow by Saturday morning. We'll see how that turns out tomorrow and I'll bring you the latest. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . As expected, it's a mild morning here in Yuzawa. +2C at the moment and likely to rise to around +6C later on in the day. There's lots of cloud still around but we expect conditions to clear up by the afternoon. Indeed it looks like there are blue skies above Naeba already. A chance of rain or sleet at town level overnight tonight before a clear and sunny day tomorrow, according to the forecast. Followed by likely rain on Friday along with the warmest temps. All a bit of a let down after such an awesome run of days in the last week, but we're still doing very well for the end of February. Hopefully there's a few more heavy snow blasts in the season. The likely rain on Friday is due to be followed by snow into Saturday. We'll see how the forecasts change as we approach the weekend... The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday the snow was falling really hard at times, and some almost white-out conditions on the roads around Yuzawa and to the north in Minamiuonuma. It calmed down somewhat by the end of the afternoon but the day delivered another 15cm or so of snow. Kagura reports up to 20cm of new. This morning started off with a lot of cloud around but by 9am it was blue skies over Yuzawa and it is a beautiful morning now. A drive around town and you can see lots of the locals shovelling snow from their driveways and off roofs of houses. The huge snow moving machines are busy doing their thing on the roads of the town. It's all action. For the lucky ones able to be skiing and snowboarding today, excellent conditions away. Tons of snow and clear blue skies. It couldn't be much better than this. It has been a fairly cold start to the day today but warmer conditions will be with us for a few days. It might get just a bit too warm actually, so we can just hope that temps remain on the lower end of the forecast. Still looking like snow will be back with us Friday. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It was all a bit crazy typical Snow Country heavy snow and congestion on the roads yesterday. With the expressway closed at times and the roads covered in snow, yesterday evening traffic conditions on the main roads around Yuzawa were really bad for a few hours there. With the wind and everything it is difficult to put a number on the snow, but since yesterday morning I have had to move around 40cm off the top of the car. Resorts around town are reporting between 20cm and 40cm of new snowfall since yesterday morning so that sounds about right. More or less in places of course. While the mad snowfall is fun to experience (though perhaps not if you are stuck in a traffic jam or waiting for a bus), I'm glad to report that this morning is less extreme conditions. Snow is still falling here and likely to continue for the day, but there's less wind and resorts appear to be open as planned. Just a few lifts at Kagura and Naeba not operating early on but other than that close to fully open. Of course yesterday some runs and resorts were closed and so today people will be able to get up there into the deepness that awaits. Going to be some incredible conditions today and tomorrow. It's going to start warming up somewhat from tomorrow for at least a few days and we're probably going to see a fair bit of sun. Snow due back before the weekend though. A great end to February. Sometimes at this time of year there's a distinct feeling of spring approaching, but happily this year we're not getting that yet. In fact, the snow piled up at the side of the roads is higher now than it has been all season and good to see it rising impressively now. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . We're in the middle of a classic Yuzawa snow storm at the moment. The snow came down yesterday and just continued. Difficult to put a number on it but at least another 30cm to move from cars this morning. Resorts around town reporting similar numbers. Unfortunately we've got some strong winds blowing things around as well. Strong enough to affect resorts and here's the latest... Kagura: Only the Mitsumata part of Kagura is open. All of Tashiro and the main 'Kagura part of Kagura' (!) is closed. Naeba: Gondolas and top lifts closed Yuzawa Kogen: Closed GALA Yuzawa: Closed All of the other resorts seem to be ok if you're willing and able to brave the weather conditions! Which is snow, wind and poor visibility. Tomorrow should see less extreme conditions though we might still get some snow falling. If they open up the lifts that are closed, then deep powder awaits. Tuesday onwards looks to clearing conditions and perhaps some calm and sunny skies. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Morning from a very snowy Yuzawa. There have been some nice big flakes coming down this morning and over 15cm of new snowfall to report and up to 30cm of fresh on the slopes. Still snowing now but visibility looks pretty decent on resorts around town right at the moment. There's even a hint of the sun through the clouds in some places, though that may well just be with the moving clouds - indeed the local Niigata forecast is for the snowy conditions to continue through the rest of today and tomorrow as well. Not too cold out actually and right now about -1C in town. Expect it to get down to around -8C at higher elevations. It will probably be Tuesday before we next see clearer skies and at the moment the last few days of the month are set to be milder and altogether sunnier. Should be great conditions for the weekend though.
