The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It was rain on and off for times yesterday, turning into snow in the afternoon but clearing by evening. Snow on and off this morning and a few cm has fallen overnight, and currently it is around 0 degrees in town. Resorts are reporting up to 5cm of snow on the slopes. We are expecting to see the sun tomorrow and it will be a bit warmer, but after that it's looking like we can expect snow clouds to be with us through the rest of the week. How much snow will they bring? I dare not guess, but let's hope we have a nice early March surprise in store. Not wanting to dampen that lot, but rain is likely before it turns into snow on Wednesday, at town level at least. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Conditions changing before our eyes here as there are some breaks in the snow clouds and blue sky starting to open up. The forecast for the day is continued snow so this might just be temporary but the mountains are looking fantastic this morning. Why? All that fresh new snow! Yes, really great news this morning as we had snow falling for most of yesterday and overnight. Get this, Kagura report 50cm of fresh. Naeba says 20-30cm. Maiko Snow Resort is also reporting a whopping 50cm! GALA Yuzawa have added 50cm this morning to their official snow depth. It would be great if more resorts gave up the daily 'new snowfall' information rather than just (sometimes) adjust the snow depth - Kagura, for example, have been unchanged on 330cm for quite a long time now - but... There isn't quite as much as 50cm on the top of my car but still a decent delivery. How things can change in just a few days. Obviously I haven't been out on the snow yet but I am guessing it will be fantastic conditions this morning. So, current blue sky above parts of Yuzawa aside, snow is forecast for the day and tomorrow too. Not much wind this morning and all resorts look set to open as normal. It should be an excellent weekend. There is a chance of stronger winds in higher places, so I advise if you plan to go to Kagura to check their website early morning. Come prepared for mid-winter like conditions. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday was.... very wet. It was raining for most of the day down at town level, though wet snow I believe falling higher up. It wasn't until late night when the sprinklers started doing their thing meaning that the snow had arrived, along with strong winds as well for a while. The good news is that this morning we have fresh snow. 20cm or so around town and 30cm being reported by Kagura. Great to report that, and also that it is still snowing quite heavily now and expected to continue so we should be starting to make up for the damage that we had done to us yesterday. It is still quite windy though, and Kagura is only part open - from the Mitsumata Ropeway to the Kagura Number 1 romance lift. (Tashiro is closed for the day due to wind). All other resorts are open as normal it seems. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Light snow continued for lots of yesterday though it didn't end up much in terms of new cm. This morning we have clear blue skies over Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma from early on. The sun is out, it's going to be a fine day weather wise for sure. It is around -3 degrees right now but a high of up to +5 is forecast for later on today. We may see rain mixed in with snow to start things off tomorrow but from then on through the week winter conditions are due. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . The good news continues today. Snow through the day yesterday - the morning clearing and blue sky was only temporary - and more snow overnight. There was at least 10cm yesterday, and 20cm on my car this morning so I'm calling for at least 30cm in town. Kagura report 30-50cm (and still does not change it's snow depth number!) Maiko report over 30cm. (My car reports over 30cm as I said). GALA Yuzawa snow depth is now up to 4m. Some of the official snow depth numbers are higher now after this snow than they have been at any other time this season. Goes to show hey? March is generally seen as something of a gamble for weather/snow conditions, but anyone around at the moment is on a 'win' for sure. The exact numbers aren't important, what is important is all that fresh snow. As yesterday, this morning the snow has eased and the clouds have broken and we have some blue sky. Like yesterday, it perhaps won't last as we are expecting the snow clouds to be around for the day. There's not much of a wind now, but stronger forecast for later. Right now though all resorts open as normal. Cloud/snow forecast for tomorrow. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Just under 10cm of new snow on the top of the car this morning, so that is since yesterday mid morning. Resorts report between a few cm and up to 10cm (at Kagura), so another thin layer to add to what we got before. Yesterday we had a bit of a clearing in the clouds earlier on but that soon clouded over again and it was snowing for most of the day. This morning is different. Clear blue skies above Yuzawa... a bit of a hazy feel in some directions but generally it is a beautiful morning and it should be great conditions whichever skijo is chosen. Hope you can get to enjoy it. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It was a beautiful day yesterday. Lots of blue sky, hardly any wind. It warmed up a bit in the afternoon though not too much. By evening a few clouds were coming in and we were hearing on the news that the region might get up to 60cm of snowfall overnight! It seemed unlikely though it was snowing late night and we do have snow to report this morning. Nowhere near as much as 60cm, but 15-20cm or so in town and resorts reporting up to 20cm so a fairly decent refresh I would expect on the slopes. A fairly moderate wind outside at the moment and I see that operations at Kagura are being affected by stronger winds higher up - the Tashiro area is closed for the day with only the Mitsumata Ropeway to Kagura Number 1 Romance lift open this morning. All other resorts appear to be open as normal. With snow continuing to fall now it looks like in a big contrast to yesterday, visibility is generally poor out there. Snowfall due to ease off by early tomorrow morning. First of all there was the rain and to add to that the poor visibility as that fog stuck around for what seemed like most of the day. Even down in town you couldn't see far, so I suspect it was worse higher up. I can see the mountains this morning and the sun is out. Kind of hazy rather than deep blue skies, but bright and sunny. Very warm conditions expected today and tomorrow with lots more sun; rain is forecast for Sunday. Might we be treated to some fresh snow up at higher elevations on Sunday? Some forecasts say we might just. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday was something of a wild day! Strong winds and snow, wet at first but bigger fluffier flakes later on, it felt like mid winter again. We even had a spell when the Kanetsu expressway was closed causing a bit of congestion but that was cleared up by the end of the day. It's difficult to put a number on how much snow there was because of the wind as well, but I had to move about 20cm off the top of the car in the evening and there's another 15-20cm this morning. So I make that 35-40cm. Resorts around town are saying up to 40cm of fresh snow as well. (Kagura are confusing me somewhat - they reported 20-30cm yesterday, and they are reporting 40cm 'until this morning'. So it's not clear whether that's a total of 60-70cm, or a total of 40cm. I'm guessing the former but on calling them the person on the line didn't know, and - guess what - the official snow depth number hasn't budged by a cm! Whatever the reality.... there's a lot of fresh snow up there). This is all of course excellent for mid-late March and it will have really patched over that icy stuff we had two days ago. The snow has stopped now, it's a chilly morning and there's more and more blue sky over the region. Should be a fine day for both snow and weather. People in the region today will be feeling very lucky with the timing. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Up to 5-10cm of new snow being reported from the resorts this morning. (Just 2cm on my car). It may not be a huge number of course, but it will go some way to cover up the damage that was done yesterday with some heavy rain at times. We could really do with a lot more to cover that up of course, and there is some hope that today we will be getting somewhere towards that. It is snowing now and forecast to continue for the day. Colder as well than it has been as you might expect. Some windy conditions on the mountains as well today and because of those the Tashiro area of Kagura is closed for the day. Kagura is only open from the Mitsumata Ropeway to the Kagura Number 1 pair lift. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Very heavy rain yesterday evening and the rain along with some crazy sounding wind actually woke me up a few times overnight. No snow to show for it at all higher up (Kagura not reporting any snow anyway) and blustery winds are preventing most of Kagura from opening this morning -- just the Mitsumata area open. GALA Yuzawa is open as planned though this morning. The rain has stopped though and we actually have some blue sky opening up above the town now and as I write this the sun is shining through the window. Clouds are moving fast though, so that might not last long. Sunny conditions due tomorrow. I was indoors all yesterday (avoiding hayfever) and can't say from experience but apparently it was fairly warm in the morning before really getting colder quite quick in the second part of the day... had the heater on last night. Oh yes and it did rain unfortunately. No reports that I can see of any snow at Kagura... This morning the sun is back and it should be with us for a run of at least a few days now. Clear and mild/warm conditions forecast for the weekend. This weekend is the last two days of the season for Maiko Snow Resort in Minamiuonuma which re-opens after being closed Monday to today. They plan to have all of the Gondola side of the resort open (the Maiko area will not be opening).
