The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Light snow on and off during the day yesterday. We even got some clearings in the clouds from time to time in the middle of the day and some brief appearances by the sun, but come evening the snow was falling again. It didn't amount to much in terms of new snowfall though with just a few cm being reported from across the resorts - most coming in from Cortina with up to 5cm. This morning while there is still a lot of cloud around, there's some blue sky too and sunlight shining down on slopes here and there. Feels like it might clear up and be a fine day here, and any light snow that might be falling at higher elevations will probably stop fairly soon. Tomorrow is forecast to be similarly cloud/sun. Actually there's more clearer conditions lined up on the forecasts than there is snow for the coming week, so we'll get to see the mountains again. Clearer conditions of course don't mean that avalanche risk disappears along with the clouds. Take care out there and enjoy the current snow conditions. It was cold through the day yesterday with the sun making some extended appearances, and while there was no new cm of snowfall it has kept good conditions due to the continued cold temps. This morning there has been a light snowfall in places with Hakuba 47 reporting 2-5cm and Cortina up to 5cm. Visibility is ok on the lower slopes but it looks like most of the runs this morning to start off with at least covered in cloud/fog with poor visibility. While it isn't snowing here in the village right now, I heard that snow is coming down on the roads around Tsugaike and some of the resorts are early on reporting snowy conditions up there. Most forecasts have us just down for cloud for the day though perhaps the odd snow shower in the first part of the day. From tomorrow it's looking like a run of clear and sunny days. Hopefully it'll keep cold over the weekend but there's a good chance that warmer conditions will prevail early in the week and temperatures nudging into positive numbers down at base. Should be a good weekend. After the traffic chaos last weekend, all being clear I would expect some people wanting to make up for it this coming weekend... expect popular places to be very busy! A fine day yesterday, warming up in the sun in the afternoon and mostly clear skies; quite a lot of cloud forming around the mountains by the time the lifts closed for the day. There has been no new snowfall since yesterday. Temperatures of around -8C overnight and again this morning the early morning cloud has quickly disappeared over Hakuba leaving us with clear blue skies and stunning views of the mountain peaks. A high temp. of around +1C is expected today. Mixed forecasts for tomorrow ranging from cloud/sun to the chance of some light snow showers from time to time. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It's another chilly start to the day and it should be keeping quite cold today. A lot of cloud remained with us yesterday but we did get some blue sky as well and the sun was out for lots of the afternoon. On to this morning and we had some very light snow slowly falling earlier this morning and resorts have a bit more to report with a slight dusting at base: Happo-one: 5cm (Riesen) Hakuba Goryu: 3cm Hakuba 47: 1cm around base; 5cm up top Hakuba Cortina: 1cm Looks like early on the mountains are shrouded in cloud (fog?) and visibility is poor, though I would expect there's a good chance that it might clear up again similarly to yesterday. Light snow showers possible during the today. We're expecting things to start warming up again from tomorrow and there will very probably be lots of sun in the coming week. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba and the snow we were hoping for has arrived, well sort of. Just sprinklings at base - roads are clear - but resorts reporting fresh snow on the mountains. Here's what the resorts are reporting this morning... Happo-one: 5+cm Hakuba Goryu: 3cm at Toomi; 10cm up top Hakuba 47: 1cm around base; 5cm up top Hakuba Cortina: 15-20cm Cortina doing well with up to 20cm up there, looks like more like 5-10cm around the Hakuba hills. It's much better than 0cm that's for sure! And it is certainly colder than it has been this morning. It's not snowing now and just cloudy really. Some hints of blue sky even so it might clear up. Snow clouds may stick in the region though through tomorrow so we might get a bit more out of this. Once we get to Monday it would seem warmer conditions and sun will be back, so this really might just be the last snow we see this season. Hakuba Goryu: Plans to be open until early May. It was a cold night but today we might see it warm up to around 15 degrees in the village according to some local forecasts. A weekend of sunny skies is likely and beyond that too; the weather seems settled into spring now. Let's spring skiing and boarding! Hakuba Goryu: Plans to be open until early May. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . After a milder spell of weather, this morning I bring good news from Hakuba with another layer of snow on the ground. There's around 20cm or so fallen by the roads in the valley. It started snowing yesterday morning and by late morning the ski jump at Happo - which is where I happened to be - was all white. The snow eased up later in the day but Hakuba 47 was reporting 20cm of snow at the Gondola summit station and 30cm up at 1450m... they were calling it 'heavy' snow. This morning they are talking of 40cm down at base They are on standby to pretty much open as quickly as possible now. Hopefully very soon. Back to the weather. The snow seems to be easing off now and the local forecast is for cloudy conditions today. Not that much snow lined up on the weekly forecast into next week as it stands at the moment, but we know how easily that can change. UPDATED AT 4:45PM: Happo-one have announced that they will be opening (or 'pre-opening'!) tomorrow - the Gondola will be taking the first people up the mountain at 8:30am tomorrow morning with the Panorama pair lift and Kokusai Number 3 lifts also starting their season at 8:40am. Looks like it is special lift ticket price time - 2500 yen for adults and 1500 yen for children. Hakuba Goryu are also opening tomorrow with the top Panorama course open, serviced by the Gondola and the Alps No1 pair lift. The Gondola will open at 8:30am. They are reporting an impressive 1m of snow up top there. It's 2400 yen for adults and 1250 yen for children. Hakuba 47 plans to have Line E lift open on Saturday and Sunday. Looking like it will clear up tomorrow but hey, it's 'season in'! Tsugaike Kogen is currently planning to open from Saturday. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . There's not a whole lot to report this morning - the third day of the season for Happo! A lovely day yesterday with fine blue skies for most of the day. It is a more cloudy start to the day today, but still bright and a few patches of blue sky showing through. Temps dipped into minus numbers overnight but today we are looking at a high of around 10 degrees in the village. So it's rather mild just now. Tomorrow - even warmer, with rain. The remaining bits of snow in the village may well get washed away with that. Not to fear. The prospects for some significant snowfall are looking rather good from Wednesday onwards. From Tuesday look for temps dipping and then a start to another cold blast and deposit of snow from later on in the day on Wednesday. Hopefully sooner, though possibly heavy rain up front before the snow is probably. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . The lifts are moving, 2013-2014 is on! So this morning the Gondolas at Goryu and Happo-one kicked the season off in Hakuba at 8:30am, at least with what Happo are calling 'pre-open'. Sounds like open to me that - it's just the Panorama course at Happo and the actually the same named course over at Goryu. No new snowfall to report since yesterday in the village and there's a lot of cloud hanging around this morning but resorts reporting some snowfall on higher elevations. There seems to be a chance of some snowfall especially higher up today but we are looking at clearer weather for the weekend and a run of milder days going into next week. For the moment it is +3C in the village area now. From tomorrow some more of Happo should be open (more of the top area) as well as the first lifts moving over at Tsugaike Kogen. It will all depend on the weather and snow conditions of course, but from now on we can expect those resorts to try and open up as much as is possible. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . We continue to wait on snow with limited operations continuing at Happo-one, 47, Goryu and Tsugaike Kogen. Actually, Hakuba 47 seem to be reporting 5cm of fresh up top this morning, though nothing lower down. Yesterday we had some very strong winds blowing about which interrupted lifts. But this morning it is much calmer. The calm before the storm hopefully, with decent snowfall forecast for tomorrow and Friday. I hope to be able to bring news of fresh snow and colder conditions soon. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It has been a while since my last report from Hakuba and it has got quite a lot colder since then and the odd bit of snow dusting the tops of the mountains as well. This morning it is a chilly 8 degrees here in the village early on and a thick blanket of cloud low down covering the village... from where I am now I can't see much other than this cloud. But go just a bit higher up the mountain side and you break through the clouds and it looks like we will be in for a fine day here in Hakuba. A high of around 14 degrees is forecast for later on in the day. What's more interesting is what is just around the corner. It does look like from tomorrow we will see a lot of rain here in the village but higher up temperatures will be in minus territory and we should see potentially a decent amount of snow fall up there. How much and how far down it will come, we'll just have to see but it does look likely to be the strongest hint of winter yet. Exciting stuff! Reports from now on will be more regular as we approach the season. Oh yes, resort opening dates. Here's the official word, all depending on how snow of course. The resorts that hope to open within November are usually good at opening as soon as they can when there's enough snow. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Not a huge amount of snow this morning but a nice cover early on... great to see snow back in the village. It has since for the most part disappeared from these lower areas but snow is still falling this morning up on the mountains with it due to continue into tomorrow - we might get another coating down here as well by tomorrow morning. After that clearer and warmer weather conditions are likely on Thursday and more nice weather due over the weekend. It will be warming up again as well over the weekend with temps very possibly hitting double digits.
