Lots of cloud around, but since then more blue sky has shown up and a bit of sun here and there - it feels like it might clear up, though the forecast says different with snow due later today and into tomorrow. Monday to Friday mostly is forecast good weather conditions... good as in sun, clearer skies and calm, along with milder temperatures. Nothing to get alarmed about though as it should remain in zero numbers through the week. But the peak of the snow and windy conditions we had yesterday has passed and there's now blue sky over me and the sun is shining through my window. Time to get out I think! Should be a good one. Looks like wind is affecting some lifts at a few places this morning (Ichinose Diamond, Okushiga Kogen and Yokoteyama) but conditions are improving and I would expect them to get moving soon enough. More snow on the forecast for tomorrow. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Ah yes, it feels like February again! Got some fresh snow this morning, about 5cm or so, and it's good and fairly cold. Perhaps not the lightest driest snow ever, but heavier snow forecast for later on this afternoon too - onegai shimasu! - along with strong winds. Colder conditions as well hopefully. It's all not expected to last much into tomorrow though according to the forecasts. I believe it was raining lower down yesterday afternoon, but up here in Shiga Kogen we got some light snow slowly falling. Looking like there's some potential in the coming week as well. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . This morning is a real beauty. Clear blue skies. Met a family yesterday and the children were skiing for the first time. In the stormy conditions we had. I can't really blame them for the children not enjoying themselves. Unfortunately they didn't get to stay for today and experience these completely different and much more friendly conditions. The experience would probably have been so different. That first time is so important! So yes it's a beautiful day to be outside today. Cold start but the sun shining down should warm things up a bit. That sure is a lot and I can't remember thinking yesterday that we were on for such a dump! But hey, it's the better kind of news so I'll take it. Not due to last the day today and perhaps the sun and clearer skies tomorrow along with milder conditions. We might get to escape the rain that many regions are going to get on Sunday with it straight to snow hopefully. Colder climes again in the first part of next week. Some areas are open until early May of course, but still...! Anyway. A good end to February with 10-20cm of fresh snow on the ground this morning around Shiga Kogen, just under 15cm outside my place. Nice and cold start to the day as well. Feels like it's clearing now, but more decent snow due tomorrow? Yes please. Not the best of conditions yesterday with some heavy and wet conditions so the fresh layer should help this morning. It has eased off now and there's even some blue sky to see as well up there and a bit of sunshine. Forecast is for snow though so.. bring it on please! It seems that large areas of northern Nagano have suffered a power cut this morning, including us here in Shiga Kogen. Sometime around 6am it started as far as I can tell, coming back sometime after 9am. Things seem to be getting back up as normal now but there'll likely be some late lifts this morning. I think they have to warm them up or something ;) Some sun out now as well and blue skies appearing from behind all the cloud. A moderate wind still blowing some of the snow around. Not that much snow lined up on the weekly forecast now, perhaps some snow showers here and there but more of a chance of seeing some sun I think. Fingers crossed it'll stay cold. Luckily the wind has calmed down and things are in the process of changing - it's clearing up. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A good morning to you from Shiga Kogen. So yesterday we saw a number of resort areas open up courses and get lifts moving, and below I have added all of the information available for you for each of the areas open, which are: Ichinose Family, Kumanoyu, Takamagahara Mammoth, Yakebitaiyama and Yokoteyama. This morning lots of cloud about and even a bit of sun as well - the dusting of snow overnight is probably the last that will fall for a number of days now. The general trend this week is for clearer conditions and as we head into the early week expecting sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures. Hopefully it will remain cold enough for the snow that is here to keep. The end of the coming week is looking good for more snow. I'll keep you updated on that as we get closer... The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . I was just looking at some of the other reports - looks like the weather was pretty bad in many places yesterday. And it was pretty bad here too. But there is good news! Yes, the good news is that the rain turned into snow overnight and there has actually been some snow fall up here in Shiga Kogen. 6cm outside my place and my friend over near Yakebitaiyama is saying nearly 10cm. Nice. Not enough to kick things into action of course but a good end to a bad day! Keep an eye on the forecast for mid week as it's looking promising in terms of snow and a return to proper winter temperatures. Currently (very) limited areas of the Kumanoyu, Yakebitaiyama, Takamagahara Mammoth and Ichinose Family resort areas of Shiga Kogen are open.
