- Shiga Kogen Now: Wednesday 8th February 2017
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 14cm Snowfall at base this season 815cm Posted on Wednesday 8th February 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . More snow! Yes, the fresh snow just keeps on falling on us here in Shiga Kogen. Can you tell how happy I am? Not a huge amount since yesterday but another decent blanket reset I would imagine on the slopes. Good news this morning is less wind and so nicer conditions to be out on the slopes. We're not expecting a whole lot of snowfall today, perhaps just light snow. The heavier snowfall is due back tomorrow night though and snowy conditions should continue into the weekend too. There's not much sun on the forecasts for the moment! (Maybe a bit today at times). It's a good time to be here. Try to get here is my advice! The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Morning from Madarao. Perhaps less fresh snow on the ground than I expected to be reporting this morning, but there's another fresh layer out there. It was snowing earlier on but has eased off now and the forecast is generally for cloudy conditions today - maybe even clearer conditions later. Don't worry, snow is due back over Madarao sometime later in the day tomorrow and a decent amount is expected as well. Anyway should be a good day. I'm off out there myself. - Niseko Now: Wednesday 8th February 2017
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 498cm Posted on Wednesday 8th February 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning and hello - and my apologies for the late report today. 'Unavoidable stuff' is my excuse! Yesterday didn't totally clear up but we did have periods of blue sky and some sunshine - and lots of wind. I have 4cm of fresh overnight snow to report to you this morning. Light snow was falling earlier on this morning, it wasn't snowing when I started this report, but it is snowing again now. Doh! The good news is that the wind is much calmer and this morning all of the lifts that should be moving are open. I would expect with the conditions yesterday and the wind blowing everything around that it will be a mix of nice fresh snow in places but icy in others. Need to keep that in mind. I'm looking at a few different forecasts here and they tell slightly different stories. I suppose the main thing to take from them is that while we may get some more snow later tomorrow and Friday, I wouldn't expect anything major. Snow clouds are forecast to be with us over the weekend too and so hopefully we'll get something out of them. Have a fun day. --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Niseko base 6.00am: -5°, 10cm new snow. Strong winds are affecting higher areas of resorts at the start of this morning (Goryu, 47, Happo and Tsugaike currently affected by the looks) and we'll need to keep an eye on that situation. Hopefully they'll be able to get moving. We might get some sunshine tomorrow before a return to snow Thursday onwards. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 25cm Snowfall at base this season 801cm Posted on Tuesday 7th February 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . On and off snowy and windy conditions since yesterday, and at the moment the wind is still blowing around the fine snow that is falling making for rather wild conditions outside. It's making it hard to put a number on the snowfall again this morning, but after checking my various measuring points and speaking with a few friends I'm going with 25cm. (Just to give you an idea of how the numbers can vary, the official site is reporting 35cm while Kumanoyu are reporting 5-10cm! Hmmmm.) Whatever, there's a nice fresh blanket of snow out there once again and with more on the way too... there's not much in terms of clear weather conditions shown on the weekly forecast though wind will perhaps be less of an issue from tomorrow. Anyway, things continue to go well for us here in Shiga Kogen. If you are planning on being here come prepared for snowy conditions - and good snow on the slopes! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa and just look at that - just under another 40cm of snow being reported by the resort since yesterday on the top Yamabiko area of the resort. Very nice. A fair bit less lower down the mountain as it took a while to get going yesterday... but still about 16cm on the ground. It has been snowing this morning but just as I write this report it has eased off and there's even a few breaks in the clouds above the village. Still, snow is forecast for the day and all the signs are that we should expect more. Maybe less so tomorrow with even the chance of some clearing skies, but back to snow Thursday and through the weekend. The regular top-ups look set to continue. And long may they do so! The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report. SnowJapan is an entirely independent operation. Our daily reports are not posted on behalf of ski areas or any other business or organisation. Since first going online in 1999, the integrity of this website has always been our top priority, and it is something we are not prepared to compromise. All content is carefully created and written by humans who share a passion for the subject and what SnowJapan stands for. About SnowJapan.com About the daily reporting on SnowJapan.com
