The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Well yesterday we got a wide range of weather conditions yesterday. First of all we had those stunning clear blue skies. It had clouded over by late morning and soon after it started snowing. And we did actually get 4-5cm by late afternoon. Such contrasts! This morning there is an additional 18cm of snow from to add giving us a total of 21cm since yesterday. Kagura are reporting 30cm of fresh snowfall (along with some quite windy conditions) and Maiko are reporting 40cm. It seems like we can expect 20-40cm of new snow on the mountains in ungroomed areas. It is still snowing and will probably ease off as the day goes on. We might even get some clearer skies again later. Tomorrow is currently due to start off clearer, moving to snow by night time. --------------- Ski area information for Tuesday 31st January 2023 Ski areas in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region (listed in alphabetical order). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this seas 564cm Posted on Wednesday 1st February 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It did continue snowing yesterday through until the afternoon, though it didn't amount to much in terms of cm. There was 4cm on our measuring point since the report yesterday. We start this morning with mostly clear skies. It should be a great morning to be outside, though we are told it might get a bit windy at times. Today is going to be milder than it has been perhaps getting as warm as 6C in town. Snow is due tonight, and there is a chance that it might start off as rain. Hopefully that does not happen. It should be snowing overnight though and perhaps during the day tomorrow. In the end we observed 437cm of snowfall during the month of January. For the season as a whole the number is 560cm. For those numbers and much more be sure to keep an eye on the Snowfall analysis and Seasonal archives pages of this report (links at top). --------------- Ski area information for Wednesday 1st February 2023 Ski areas in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region (listed in alphabetical order). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 18cm Snowfall at base this seas 582cm Posted on Thursday 2nd February 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday we enjoyed some fine blue skies in the morning. It was quite windy at times and clouds started gathering around mid-morning. They never really took over though until later in the day. Unfortunately, as it was on the milder side we did get some rain in the evening, but overnight it turned into snow. Happily, we do have a layer of snow this morning. Kagura and Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 30cm of fresh. (Unfortunately, only the Mitsumata Area is opening at the start of the day due to strong wind conditions forecast). In town we measured 18cm of snow overnight (and 14cm was measured to the north, close to Ishiuchi Maruyama). Changeable weather conditions early this morning. Just a short while ago there was some blue sky and sun, but it has since started snowing again just north of Yuzawa. We are not expecting much during the day though, and it may well get clearer again. Currently it is around -1C and it shouldn't warm up much from that during the day. --------------- Ski area information for Thursday 2nd February 2023 Ski areas in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region (listed in alphabetical order). • Yuzawa Now: Friday 3rd February 2023

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this seas 589cm Posted on Friday 3rd February 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday we had some changeable weather conditions. At times there was some blue sky and sunshine, but it often quickly started to snow again. In the end it felt like it was snowing more than it was clearer, though it wasn't the kind of snowfall where the cm quickly piled up. Our measurement since yesterday morning is 7cm. We can probably expect 5-10cm of snow on the slopes. It is snowing lightly at the moment though mostly a day of cloud is forecast. It actually feels like we might get to see the sun again as it is currently trying to break through the clouds to the north. The forecasts for tomorrow are varied: some predict a cloudy day, some say it will be sunny in the morning. We might get some more snow again tomorrow night too, which would be great for weekend visitors. There's some news on the Yuzawa Snow Link connections between Yuzawa Kogen, GALA Yuzawa and Ishiuchi Maruyama. The Buggy lift that connects GALA Yuzawa with Ishiuchi Maruyama will be open from... today! The Landau Ropeway that connects GALA Yuzawa with Yuzawa Kogen will be open from next Saturday (11th February). A new simple rope tow lift has also been spotted at the top of Ishiuchi Maruyama. They are calling it Superstar Lift. Basically, this lift connects the top of the Buggy lift with the summit of Ishiuchi Maruyama, allowing people from GALA to get up to the top of Ishiuchi Maruyama easily. (Without that lift, you need to use the winding course to properly connect with Ishiuchi and miss the views from the summit). We will find out more about that lift and update our information both in this report and on the Ishiuchi Maruyama page on SnowJapan soon. --------------- Ski area information for Friday 3rd February 2023 Ski areas in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region (listed in alphabetical order). The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We did get a bit of sunshine again yesterday before the clouds moved in again. At first, they brought rain to the region but the good news is that we have a layer of snow this morning. Kagura are reporting 30cm of fresh snowfall. Unfortunately, the Tashiro Area of Kagura will be closed today due to strong forecast winds. Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 20cm. And we have measured 14cm at our measuring point. It's probably not enough in lower areas for a complete reset, but very welcome Current temperature is -0.5C and it is still snowing lightly. Cloud and light snow at times is what is forecast for today and tomorrow. We can probably expect clearer skies over the weekend and it will be milder again. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this seas 617cm Posted on Friday 10th February 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The main headline this morning is the southerly wind. Unfortunately, due to the noisy wind we have at the moment, both Kagura and GALA Yuzawa are going to be closed for the day. The Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway and top area of Yuzawa Kogen ski area, the gondola and top area of Maiko Snow Resort, and the gondola and top section of Naeba are also closed because of the conditions. Other ski areas are also being affected with some other lifts on hold. We have tried to add as much current info to the report as possible (below updated at 9:30am), but things might change. The best bet today are the lower, less exposed ski areas. The good news is that we should get some snow later on and tonight and the weekend should be calmer. It will also be milder again, especially on Sunday. Beyond that, we're looking at the potential for good consistent snowfall next week. --------------- Ski area information for Friday 10th February 2023 Ski areas in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region (listed in alphabetical order). They are also saying that the top Number 5 pair lift will be closed today (due to wind), as will the connecting course between Tashiro and Kagura. Yuzawa Kogen are saying that top lifts might be running slow due to wind too. Other exposed lifts might be affected, though there's no more specific news to be found as of 8:30am. Slightly under 5cm so far, but it is still snowing and due to snow through today and tomorrow, and perhaps as long as into Wednesday morning. Let's see. Currently it is around 0C in town and it shouldn't be getting much warmer than that during the day; tomorrow will be colder. • Yuzawa Now: Tuesday 21st February 2023

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 36cm Snowfall at base this seas 733cm Posted on Tuesday 21st February 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. There's a lot going on this morning! First of all... new snow. Kagura is reporting a whopping 80cm of it (presumably up top), Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 30cm. We have measured 36cm at our measuring point in Yuzawa and 23cm just to the north of Ishiuchi Maruyama. So some varying amounts there, but bottom line is that there's a good new layer of fresh snow and a lot as you go higher. Excellent. Less great is that you won't be able to check out all the snow at Kagura because the Kagura Area is on hold and the Tashiro Area is closed (due to strong forecast wind), so only the Mitsumata Area is open this morning there. The Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway is also not operating this morning and the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is closed due to avalanche risk (the main Central and Northern Areas of GALA Yuzawa are open as normal). Some other lifts might also be affected this morning. It is still snowing this morning with snow due through the day (though there have been a few quick spells of brighter conditions this morning, though they were quick to disappear). Currently just under -2C in town. We might get some sun during the day tomorrow. --------------- Ski area information for Tuesday 21st February 2023 Ski areas in Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region (listed in alphabetical order).
