Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 41cm
Snowfall at base this seas 245cm
Posted on Wednesday 4th January 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.
There was a short period early afternoon yesterday when we saw some blue sky and even a bit of sunshine, but apart from that it has been snowing for most of the time since yesterday and apparently quite heavily overnight.
Last night at 6pm we had 8cm at our measuring point and as of 8am this morning there is another 33cm on there. So that's 41cm since yesterday. That's over 120cm over the last three reports. Nice.
Here's what ski areas are reporting this morning:
- Kagura: 50cm
- Yuzawa Kogen: 30cm
- Maiko: 50cm
A few ski areas around the area are again this morning mentioning avalanche and snow slide risk. The top area at Iwappara is closed this morning for that reason.
It's natural to be very excited about all this sudden snow, but important to remember the inherent dangers out there while having the fun.
There is going to be more snow too... it is snowing now and set to continue through tomorrow.
