The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . We had some more snow during the day yesterday. The ski area was reporting an extra 15cm on the top areas by 3pm and another 10cm this morning... so that's 25cm since yesterday morning. And there has been a good 10cm down low too. Wind disrupted the gondola in the afternoon and there were a few breaks in the clouds at times. Snow has eased off for this morning and it's a very fine one to be out skiing and snowboarding, if you are able to do so. And there are a few more lifts now officially open - from this morning the Hikage Gondola, Hikage triple and Nagasaka lifts are now operating. The below list has been updated. We are going to get some sun today but it should remain fairly cold (it's a cold start to the morning), and snow is due on the forecast over the coming week. I wouldn't be surprised to see our favourite bright green vegetable, Naski, out there on the board(s) today. Or at least greeting people. Information checked each morning. All subject to change. Conditions were a bit wild at times yesterday with strong winds. Should be calmer today, though there's still a westerly wind. Light snow this morning but some breaks in the cloudy too. The forecast says snow though. Oh yes, and snow for tomorrow too, especially later on going into Tuesday. Temps should remain pretty low. Nice, a bit unexpected (it feels like we don't get a lot of consecutive snow days) and helping those ski areas as they open. Not a huge amount of snow overnight, but the plows did run early in the morning. I wondered if it was a bit of an early-season practice run; a lot of times the city (versus prefectural) streets don't get plowed until 30cm or more fall. Or something like that. It's cold, too. Got to about -9° at 10pm last night, and a cold morning. Also good, especially considering how much the temperature has been dancing around. And ski areas are starting to open, so time for me to give you the latest information and think about making a few turns myself! The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Lots more lovely snow to report to you this morning. Hirafu are reporting another 50cm of fresh and now have an official snow depth of 200cm on their upper slopes. That is good to see. I am measuring 19cm since my report yesterday. Right now it's generally cloudy with some light snow falling and the forecasts for the coming week has consistent snowfall lined up. Nice. Night skiing at Niseko Grand Hirafu will start from tonight. It looks like night skiing at HANAZONO will have to wait a little bit longer to get started. Currently the shiny new gondola is open until 4:00pm. It's interesting that this season night skiing is until 7:00pm at Niseko Hirafu and Niseko Village and until 7:30pm at Niseko Annupuri. I can remember when night skiing was until 9:30pm. It kind of feels a bit like when your favourite chocolate bar shrinks a bit in size (and costs the same or more). Or your favourite restaurant starts cutting down on portion sizes. My toast will most certainly - and stubbornly - always remain the same size! But getting back to the subject at hand, I have noted in the lists below which lifts are scheduled to be open for night skiing. ----- A shout out to the good folk who put together the Avalanche Reports every season. Yoroshiku onegai shimasu! Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa Base -7 degrees, 15cm in the last 12hrs, calm. Benkei Cape NW15m/s, Caper Kamui, WSW9m/s, pressure 1008hPa, wave 1.9m. Annupuri 1000m: -9 degrees 30cm new snow, minor snowdrift development. Mountain Data n/a. The atmospheric pressure gradient is flattening out, and the strong wind snow is starting to settle down. Significant snowdrift and cornice development came with yesterday's blizzard conditions where the snowdrifts themselves will easily collapse from rider stimulation. Along with this is the secondary risk from weak layers formed during cold, sunny weather. Caution is required on all fresh snow slopes during and immediately after a storm in the mountains along the Sea of Japan. Still lots of bushes off course, not recommended. Gates closed. Niseko Rules of put in place for riding out of bounds, you must follow the rules! Wear your helmet and beacon. The avalanche risk continues on leeward slopes above 1000m due to the underlying weak layers in the old snow below the new snow drifts of the last 2 days. Avoid riding open steep slopes like Kozan no Sawa side wall. Thanks to the copious amounts of snow that has fallen on our mountain overnight, Tangram Ski Circus is actually able to open as originally planned this morning... the Number 1 pair and Number 3 and 5 quads are planned to be moving today. The other lifts plan to start their season on 25th December. Madarao has announced that it will be opening from tomorrow, Sunday 19th December... The ski area is reporting 60cm of fresh snow on the mountain... and an official snow depth of the same number. The Number 1 lift and Number 2 quad lift will start the season off, open from 8:30am tomorrow morning. 7 courses will be open. It's a cold morning and snow continues to fall from the skies, so hopefully there'll be more cm on the way through tomorrow. Season in, as they say. It is a cold morning and it really feels like mid winter which is always a good thing. Hopefully there will be snow being delivered over at least the next few days. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . More lifts and courses have opened on the Furano Zone and the skiing is now from the top all the way down to base. Downhill Romance 3 chair gives access from the top of Furano Ropeway to the peak of Furano Zone. Around the base areas there is strong wind. 24cm of new snow has fallen in the village and there is high cloud with big clear breaks of blue sky. No precipitation is coming down at the moment but the forecast is for more snow through the day. Needless to say it will be a cold day out there with -13c at the top combined with strong wind. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Excellent news to report from Hakuba this morning with a really good layer of snow on the ground. I'm adding 36cm to this report, and it still snowing - and cold. Wind doesn't seem to be creating problems which is good, so conditions should be great for anyone heading up to the slopes this morning. Hakuba Goryu, 47 and Tsugaike are all reporting 50cm of fresh snow on their upper areas with about 30cm added to lower areas. Lower course areas of 47 are open again this morning. Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field and Hakuba Cortina are also both part open from today, so there's now six ski areas open. The official Happo-one site is struggling this morning (presumably with traffic) so I can't bring you any specifics from there. Bottom line: Great news. More opening and incoming fresh snow. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa, and a good one it is too. Snow has arrived. :) The ski area this morning is reporting a magnificent sounding 83cm of fresh snow on the top Yamabiko area since yesterday. 50cm from Uenotaira. Those are impressive numbers. Lower down at base areas there is also a good thick layer of snow and it is still snowing now. Definitely feels colder too. The Paradise quad, Skyline connecting lift and Yu Road are scheduled to be moving today; Paradise and Kokenashi runs should also be open, all being well. Hopefully from now on we'll be able to stick in winter mode pretty much through until spring. Information checked each morning. All subject to change. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 60cm Snowfall at base this season 122cm Posted on Saturday 18th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . An exciting 24 hours, with all of the news stations telling us how much snow and wind we were likely to get, and then dropping temperatures and a fairly dramatic sky as the clouds began shooting up over the peaks. Lots of wind all night, so the snow depths are pretty variable depending on wind exposure. Oh, yeah, and 60cm of snow at base level, which is nice (and why I'm later than I planned — early season snow clearing always takes longer than we expect....Plugged chutes on snow blowers, forgetting how to plow, that kind of thing) Several of the ski areas were supposed to open last week or today; looks like this nice base will let some of them send out the snow cats to pack the snow down, and open tomorrow (see listings below for more info!) Akakura Kanko: Scheduled to open tomorrow, with the Myokokogen Sky Cable Gondola and No. 5 lift running. Not reporting temperature or snow depth yet. Akakura Onsen: 45cm, -2° Planning to open tomorrow Alpen Blick Snow Resort Scheduled to open today, but no new info yet....
