- Myoko Now: Saturday 25th November 2023
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 42cm Snowfall at base this season 42cm Posted on Saturday 25th November 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Just a quick update, as this is the first day with measurable snow here at the base of Akakan. And it's a pretty solid 40+ cm of heavy, wet, sticky snow. Every shovel load is a great pre-season workout when you lift it; all the phone and power lines are covered in snow; small trees are being right down to the ground. And it keeps on coming, so the snowthrower might also get a good early-season workout today. As I mentioned in the previous pre-season posting, I'll have lots of official information after the opening meeting here on December 1 (a party follows, so I might not post immediately, just to ensure clarity. Building good human communications is such an important part of Japanese culture....) See you again in a few more days; I will report in the meantime if a lot more snow falls, but it looks like some sunny and warmer weather just before we get into December. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 18cm Snowfall at base this season 43cm Posted on Saturday 25th November 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It has been a warm lead into winter and just a couple of days ago it was +16c. The weather has jumped back into winter mode with a large snow front over Hokkaido at the moment. The opening of Furano Ski Resort was scheduled for today but there is not enough snow to commence operation, with the slopes pretty much devoid of any snow until today. And that brings the good news...the snow front has deposited 18cm of snow on the ground in the Kitanomine village. The snow is heavy with higher moisture content which is perfect for starting to create a base on the ski runs. The temperature is -7c and the high today will stay solidly below freezing, only going up to -3c. There is snow forecast off and on over the week ahead and temperatures will remain cold, except the forecast is showing a warm spike on Tuesday that may bring rain. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Things are different this morning - it's sunny blue skies from early on with just some cloud in places. Mt Yotei is looking fetching, effortlessly pulling off a 'fluffy cloud hat' look. There is also a thin layer of snow on the ground from snow yesterday and I can just about justify adding 1cm to the report this morning. (That probably won't last long this morning with mild temperatures due). Tomorrow will probably be fine too, but the weather looks interesting from Friday onwards. It will get colder again and we might receive some decent snowfall.
