Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 48cm
Snowfall at base this seas 853cm

Posted on Monday 9th February 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

After a fine start and some blue sky, the weather had changed by late morning yesterday and we had some heavy snow at times, along with some windy conditions.

There has been more snow overnight, with a total of 48cm on our measuring point since yesterday. Very nice.

It is still snowing and due to ease off sometime before evening.

Unfortunately, wind is an issue again today, and it is affecting a few ski areas: all of Kagura is closed today and GALA Yuzawa is also closed for the day.

The Gondola side of Maiko Snow Resort is closed, though the hotel side is planning on being open.

Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway may also be affected and possibly some other lifts.

Limited visibility out there, so special care is required today for those braving the weather.

Sunshine and calmer conditions are expected tomorrow.
