Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this seas 805cm
Posted on Sunday 8th February 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.
Morning from Yuzawa.
A cold morning with a bit of fresh snow... but not a whole lot. There has been around 5cm in town since yesterday, and probably a bit more than that at higher elevations. (Wouldn't it be great if ski areas told us about it?!)
We do have snow forecast through the day today, but as this report is being prepared there are some breaks in the cloud and actually a bit of blue sky and sun breaking through. If anything it has felt like it is clearing up over the last 30 minutes. Anyway, all forecasts insist we should expect snow during the day. And windier conditions later on...
It looks like the Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa will not be open today. The main Central and Northern Areas remain open as normal. (I can't find any specific reason being offered).
Just noticed that Kagura says strong winds are forecast this afternoon and the Tashiro <> Kagura connecting course will close at 1pm, and the Tashiro Ropeway will close at 3pm.
