Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 35cm
Snowfall at base this seas 757cm

Posted on Thursday 6th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Well, we did get a spell of blue skies for a short while yesterday morning and the snow generally held off until the evening. Interesting to see some regions to the north of us were getting some unusually large amounts of snow. Those regions are less prepared and much less excited at the prospect of heavy snow!

We have received a lot more overnight. At 8am this morning, another 35cm of snow has been cleared off the measuring point.

The only ski area that has declared snowfall numbers (as far as I can tell) is Maiko Snow Resort. They are saying 40-60cm.

It is currently about -3.5C in town.

If forecasts are to be believed, there is still a lot more snow coming across the coming days... even beyond the weekend and into next week. We could potentially be in for some seriously large numbers!

Ski areas are dealing with all this snow and again we can expect some opening delays or some lifts to be affected.

This morning the top Number 5 lift at Kagura ski area is closed due to avalanche risk and poor visibility.

GALA Yuzawa is open, but the Southern Area will again not be available today.
